The Local on 5th

Flew in last night with 10 guys to attend a trade show. Went here for a a quick bite and a few beers. Great tacos and burgers. Nice selection of beer on tap. Sara and Shawn took great care of us and really seem to care about the customers. $ 2 tacos on Tuesday is hard to beat!

Love this place! My friend brought us here on Sunday during halftime of Panthers/​Seahawks, unfortunately where we were prior to this was not a good experience. But The Local totally made up for it! It’s a cute little bar, kind of like a hole in the wall bar but so cozy and welcoming. Compared to other places we had stopped at, we got a table right away, right in front of a tv so we could watch the game.
There was a great mix of people inside, all different ages which made the experience a lot of fun! Our waitress came up to us right away and asked for our drink orders. They came out fast and we ordered our food right away as well. Again, service was super fast for a busy Sunday, playoff football game. I got the chicken salad melt, so yummy! They carved out a onion roll and put the chicken salad in it like a bowl, melted some american cheese on top and added thousand island dressing, which I thought was weird at first but after tasting it, was very content! It came with chips, macaroni salad, or pasta salad. I chose chips even though after I kinda wished I went with one of the salads, oh well, next time! My boyfriend got wings with mild sauce on the side. He mentioned he was glad he got it on the side because it was super spicy, but enjoyed them regardless! We also got a side of the buffalo macaroni and cheese, ughhh I love anything buffalo and I cannot go somewhere without trying the different buffalo dishes they have so this obviously was a must. It was soooo good. It was super cheesy and had just the right amount of kick to it, perfectly spiced buffalo flavor!
All the employees were super friendly along with all the customers that were there. It made our experience so much more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be coming back soon!

Great location on the corner of 5^th & Tryon adjacent to the Blumenthal Theatre, 1 block away from the Time Warner Arena. Great affordable lunch menu and full menu served late night. Amazing drink prices daily. Must try the tacos… chicken, beef, steak, pulled pork, shrimp or mahi-mahi…All soooooo good!!!

Great dive bar in the center of town. The food was above average bar food and Sara and Sean were great servers. We went back the next day following the Packers game and stayed to watch the late NFL game. Lots of local people having fun.

This place is awesome! We’ve been there during our visits for Panthers games and always get great service and food. Especially love the burgers and appetizers. Atmosphere is very casual and welcoming. Staff is very attentive and friendly. And bartender Sara rocks! Definitely will return whenever we are in Charlotte.

The gf really liked this place, she said it really remind her of a dive bar with great company and enthusiastic bartenders. There was no cover charge on the Saturday night we went and the drinks were averagely priced. A few game machines feel the place and a decent DJ spins on the tables. Simply put, if your bar hoping feel free to step in and have a drink.

My husband & I had a little time to kill before starting our evening in Charlotte, so we walked to one of the only open bars near our hotel to get a drink and a small bite. It seems like most places are closed between 2pm & 5pm in this area so we were happy to see the doors open.
There were only a few other patrons sitting at the bar, so we grabbed a small table in the bar area. Our waitress was friendly & brought us out a decent pair of bourbon diets. The only real issue was the menu was apparently outdated. ½ the stuff we asked for they no longer had. It was a bit confusing, but we settled for the pretzel bites with warm pimento cheese. It was definitely frozen & microwaved.
Not a place I would go back to, but at the time our options were slim.

Had a fun night with a few friends tonight. We stopped by the local tonight for some late night chicken tenders and ended up staying the whole night. Cheap drinks, a great atmosphere and to top it off they ended up serving amazing bbq sandwiches through the windows while I waited for my taxi.

Great music. Tacos were amazing. The drink specials are amazing. Definitely a must drop in.

Went in to grab a drink before a play. The bar was not busy, maybe 5 people. I sat at the bar, two bartenders chatting as if I was not there. They did not say hello, can i get you something… Nothing. I waited 5 – 7 minutes while they were having a personal conversation. I had to interrupt their chat to get service. Just sad! Pass this BAR. The have no clue on what customer service is. I will never go back.

Walk in the door and it’s seat your self. The place was dead but the server had no time for us. The short Indian chick with the tattoos is the rudest waitress I’ve encountered while in Charlotte. On second thought the rudest I’ve ever encountered. Do not come here.

Visited the local for the first time and really wasn’t impressed. The menu had a lot of options but service was lacking! My friend ordered the sunset wrap and it wasn’t properly made. The server served it without the avocado. My friend realized it didn’t have avocado and spoke with the server. The server said «oh we just ran out» but never confirmed this with my friend or asked if she wanted to change her meal. It wasn’t very service oriented and the server should have informed us right away the kitchen couldn’t make a simple wrap that was on the menu. Instead of comping the meal due to her mistakes she gave us a whopping 1.50 discount for the meal. I guess she didn’t want to involve management. We tried this place due to convenience and close to work but will never return.

The interior is way better than Phil’s. Their chicken tender appetizer clearly says 5 chicken tenders but they served us three. Yes you gave us big tenders but if you put a number then I better get 5. This is Phil’s with new décor. Staff still screwed up our bill like good old Phil’s. They need to get new staff and new cooks and it could be awesome.

Taco Tueadays; buy one get one free (beef tacos are $ 2 chicken $ 3, fish $ 4. So they’re already cheap lol). I still come on other days for the tacos bc they’re so good. Also, everyday they’ve got great drink specials. Great service as well. The only thing I hate is that it’s always maybe too chill, probably because no one is aware of how great a hidden gem it is.

I work in Hearst Tower, so I watched The Local transform from Phil’s over the last few months. It’s been awesome to see that exterior painting progress, it really makes The Local look like a place you’d want to stop by for a beer.
There are daily specials for both food a drinks, so there’s always a way to save a few bucks here. I went on Wednesday which happened to be $ 2 off burgers and $ 3.50 local drafts. They had a pretty good draft selection, I think about 8 locals and 5 or 6 of the regular domestics.
Food wise, I went with the Dirty Jersey burger, which I would definitely recommend. Their burgers are a great size so you don’t need to worry about leaving hungry. The sweet hot BBQ sauce on the DJ was great… it really set it off with the peppers & onions. My favorite part about meals is usually the side, and in this case, they have plenty of choices (with no up-​charge!!!). Regular fries, waffle fries, tots, sweet potato fries … they have a few others I can’t even remember.
As far as ‘bar food’ goes, I would definitely not hesitate to come here for some burgers and brews again with some friends!
