Wayside is always crackalackin’ at lunch, so I think its best to call your order in and carry-out. Very limited seating inside. We keep it simple and always get an American and an Italian. All sandwiches come with Tostitos and a pickle spear. Nothing fancy, but for about $ 9 a sandwich you will get a hearty meal.

We have served Cville high and low for a dive bar, and Durty Nelly’s is it! They have offer a variety of beers, including a selection of local brews too. We were there on a Friday night, and the place got packed to watch the live band. It is not really a place where you can carry on great conversations because of the band, but I did enjoy their music. If you love dive bars, you will love Durty Nelly’s!

Service at the deli was extremely slow. Food was okay, but not worth the time I spent waiting for it. Don’t go here if you’re in a hurry, the staff sure isn’t. I could have walked to the Corner and gotten my order from Little John’s faster. Cleanliness left something to be desired.

Loved this placed. It made our experience in Charlottesville even more enjoyable. Great food, beer, and people(even though their Wahoos). Way to go Irish!

Nice little dive on the edge of town. It’s all deli food, nothing hot, but they have a small selection of cookies, brownies and such. Ordered the Barrister and and some fresh gespacho and struggled to finish it all. Can’t wait to belly up to the bar and see what comes in the door.

Best deli sandwiches that side of town. Great coleslaw, potato salads, and other sides as well. The bar is way cool as it has a fireplace and authentic locals pub atmosphere. Some nights the scene resembles the«cantina» from Star Wars though. You never know what you will see or who you will run into there.

My favorite local dive. Better as a bar than a restaurant — lots of beers, a roaring fire in winter, video games and pinball, Red and the Romantics on Tuesday nights.

Love the barrister! For great prices, quick takeout, tasty sandwiches and staff that ask how your momma is doing, come here. For foodie buzz words, go elsewhere.

This place is weird as shit. You’ll either love it or hate it. They’re stuck in 1985. Clientele is a really strange group of people. Beers are cheap and served by a sassy older woman when we were there last. They’ve got a bunch of old arcade games in the back which are extremely fun when you’ve had three pints. Everything hung up on the walls has a heavy patina of dust. You wouldn’t have it any other way. Haven’t eaten there and probably wouldn’t given the other reviews. No mixed drinks but who cares, have a beer, plant yourself at the bar for a few hours, enjoy the surprisingly good live music and take it in.

Pains me to write this: RIP Wayside Deli. Do yourself a favor — go to Bellair Market, aka, «the Fancy Exxon.» Something terrible has happened to the Wayside Deli over the years. It is living on fumes(and dust, and possibly e-coli). I stopped in for a sandwich — moved by nostalgia, and in a hurry. Deliberately, I chose Wayside, rather than any of a number of faster, corporate alternatives. The Owner was having a party /gathering for a club he belongs to, and the one sandwich maker was swamped with orders. After 15 minutes, I meekly asked if perhaps my «to go» order could slide in between the folks who were staying for the club meeting. The other person present said«sorry, we’re first come first serve.» Okay. So this gave me entirely too much time to observe the operation. First, no more Boars Heads Meats. In fact, no deli meats visible for shaving, as I recall back in the day — they had a real deli. With real shaved meats to order. Next, the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. And I’m a pretty adventurous traveler and eater — but the food handling and surfaces all seemed sure to flunk a health inspector’s visit. Then they were out of pumpernickel — it’s a deli. Okay, then they were almost out of horseradish. At that point I was almost going to cancel. But I got my sandwich in the nick of time, I suppose, 25 minutes after ordering it. I was truthfully so grossed out by what I saw, I chucked the sandwich w/o eating it.

Love this place! Stop by every time I am in C-ville. Great beer selections and super sandwiches made to order. Beats the heck out of those penny-pinching«corporate-owned» sub shops. The ambiance is cozy with their rustic college town décor. The real fireplace is great on a chilly winter eve. Try Durty Nelly’s and you will not be disappointed.

I’m a big fan of Durty Nelly’s. I’ve only eaten there once, and can’t really remember much about it. But it’s a great place to go for drinks(only beer and wine, if I’m not mistaken). The place really is ideal for going with a group of friends. It’s easy to get a big table and just sit and chat with your people.

Aww, it’s too bad the only two reviews of the place give it 2 ½ stars — albeit they are(out)dated from 2006! This was our first stop back to the bf’s collegetown, and brought with it memories of old-fashioned, no-frills food coupled with cold beer, wine and cola. The Dagwood was enormous and enough to share. Various slices of deli meat, swiss cheese, a soft roll. Chips(not made in house) came on the side. Bottled beer from the fridge sat next to various Mike’s hard lemonade and cans of soda. The décor is oldie and old. Cross a threshold into an inner room for the deli(and watch your step — it’s raised). Another room further is an arcade proper. The bathroom is tiny and the stall’s door — well, let’s just say a person waiting would get slammed if they stood inside. A peruse of the chalkboards and notices while seated at the bar indicates its a favorite watering hole for locals, a game night during the week, and a sports venue for others. You would seriously never know the place existed but for veterans of its long-standing subs.

If you’re a UVA student, don’t come here for the Pub. They don’t have liquor, only beer, and the bar is usually filled with grizzled old guys. If you’re a coming here for a deli sandwich, you might want to reconsider. Sure, they put a lot on the sandwich, but you could get the same thing at Subway if you asked for extra stuff. Their closet of a deli-counter isn’t worth your time.

Great sandwiches, and they’re huge! It’s never been too crowded when I’ve gone, so I was able to sit at a counter by the fireplace. It’s got two main rooms, one is the deli and one is the pub.
