Fast, courteous service. The food was hot and tasty. I have the fried catfish sandwich. It had slaw and tartar sauce on it. A great combo. And they provided extra tartar without me even asking! Walking into the restaurant brought me back 35 years ago when I visited a BBQ in the Florida Keys as a child. I loved that place. This was a great reminder of a meal long along. And, my picky child loved her pulled pork so much that her boyfriend said that maybe she really does like meat but hasn’t found the right thing until now. I definitely want to go back!

I don’t know who would give this place a bad review, it was delicious! The sides were amazing, I was full by the time I got to them, but I ate them all anyway. The cornbread was grilled and buttery and had jalapenos in it. The service was friendly and the food came out very quickly. Will definitely be eating here again!

I have continued to visit Moe’s and the food and experience improves each time. It has become my go-to BBQ joint with both lunch trips and take-home for dinner occurring every couple weeks. Their ribs were fantastic last time — good rub and good sauce. Also a nice assortment of side-dishes so that each trip is different.

Dinner of chicken with add on ribs and pulled pork. Sides of potato salad, skillet corn and corn bread. Sides were all homemade and very good. Half chicken was cut into 4 pieces just before serving and was cooked perfectly. The pulled pork was moist with a mixture of bark and very lean. The sauce complimented the pork nicely. The ribs were a little over cooked for my taste but were moist juicy and tender. The décor was clean and had a nice mix of wood and medal and was laid back and comfortable. Found it a little strange that a bbq joint only served brisket on Wednesday. And heard them 86 the ribs and chicken just after I got my order. So things were running out at 6Pm on a Friday night. Overall not great BbQ but not bad and I have had a lot worst. Have driven over 100 miles for Bbq before and would not do it for Moes but if I were in the area and hungry forBBQ would definitely stop by again for a return trip.

They are not the worst, but not the best. The dinning style was as confusing as their food. Its hard to pick up what type of regional flavors they were going after but it reminds me of something I had in Arkansas and Alabama. As far as their ribs, it has a good smoke but flavorless seasoning.st. louis style cut but still has the membrane. not overcooked but taste like its been wrapped and rested too long. The sauce would have been good but its too tangy. The sides were OK but a lot of the veggies in my potato salad and my beans were not chopped evenly which lead to weird textures. The dining and service was a little confusing. Its casual dinning where you order at the counter and pick up your food. Where it gets confusing is that they serve everything on a tray in disposable containers but give you a restuarant plastic cup that needs to be returned. Because there is a tip line on the receiept but a tray return area, you almost don’t want to be rude and not clean up after yourself but yet you might wonder if its someone’s job to clear the tables. Other than that, I might be curious to return to try their sandwich but for now, I’ll stay away.

Fantastic food summer or winter! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Cville, and that is saying a lot with all the great ones. I love the vibe and the sweet smokey southern sustenance. Writing this review is probably giving them another customer for tonight cuz my mouth is watering for it. I have yet to have any of their sides that wasn’t tasty also. 10⁄10 or 5⁄5 since this is Unilocal.Or could just call it 1⁄1 ha

I stopped in while traveling with three friends. We each got different meals and sampled them all. The BBQ chicken was absolutely phenomenal, but everything was good, including the sides. The only side that we weren’t crazy about was the gumbo, which wasn’t bad, but had somewhat of a weak flavor. The cornbread was also excellent.

I wanted to give this place higher. The expectations were there the staff was really nice! But the food just wasn’t worth more than 3 stars. Its a typical«fast food bbq» Joint. Serves the basic bbq with a decent sauce nothing to write home to mom about. Good for a quick lunch but not great authentic bbq. Also the cornbread is not your average, they tried to mix it up a bit i think its Red peppers? Not a good idea.

My BBQ Travels took me through Charlottesville VA to Moe’s Original Bar B Que. This spot is fairly new in a nice little building, but once you see it drive in slow or you will miss the entrance. If not then you will have done a drive by! See what I did there… Very small entrance to parking toward the back. There was one customer there at 3p on a Sunday Afternoon. Perfect for me as the guy behind the Register had time to answer my questions. Sunday and Wednesday are Brisket Days. So you brisket lovers remember to go on those days. I’ve rarely experienced a BBQ Joint only serving a popular item like brisket just two days… but I guess that’s not their specialty. That is indeed my thinking as I ordered the first item on their list. The Pulled Pork Sandwich! Yes add the slaw. The Sauce is vinegar based? Oh Yeah… Toss in some Mac and Cheese and hush puppies and a Cheerwine to drink! Dang if Moe’s didn’t take care of BBQ Business for me on this visit. The Sandwich was filled with great pulled pork and a fantastic cole slaw. They could have left the pickles off but I’ll remind them on my next visit. The Sauce was excellent! Overall the staff was very friendly and inviting. I really want to go back soon. Moe’s would have received 5 stars had they offered a great crinkle cut french fry, however they don’t serve fries. And my hush puppies were way overcooked… It didn’t really matter, their pork is spot on!!!

The four stars is mostly due to OUTSTANDING Customer service. However the ribs were absolutely amazing! THE sides were mediocre, the smoked turkey sandwich was okay, and the pulled pork was okay too. I will return due to the delicious ribs and wonderful service!

Somebody call the police, ’cause I just been robbed. Staff was super nice. The place was clean. The food was terrible. I had pulled pork, my wife had fried catfish. Mine tasted pretty much like what I can make myself in a crockpot with a Mccormick pack from Food Lion. Seriously. There was just no flavor to the meat. I put on extra sauce, but the it was also very pedestrian. No pizzazz. The potato salad was equally unimpressive. Baked beans were, eh. The catfish tasted salty and fried — that’s it. Pretty basic. There are a few mom and pop BBQ places north of town that are FAR better tasting, with a variety of sauces and intensely flavored meat, and only half the cost. Which is another big ding for Moes. What’s up with these prices for such middling food? I regret spending my money there. My apologies to the owner and management.

I have tried BBQ in many places throughout the US and Moe’s BBQ does not stand out as one of the best. The restaurant is located a little bit away from most of the Charlottesville attractions, but it is easy to park at the restaurant. When you walk in there is definitely a southern feel in the environment but it is not entirely authentic. The first thing you will encounter is a stand with the cashier who will take your order. The thing I liked the most about this restaurant was the menu, it is easy and simple. Choose the item you want, this comes with sides and a drink. 1 price for everything, no complications. In addition I would say you can have a complete meal for around 10 dollars so it is affordable. Other than that the food itself was smoked nicely, but the BBQ sauce which is supposed to be the hero, they did not stand out, they lacked heat. Overall, if you want a no thrills place just to chill and grab a decent BBQ you can visit Moe’s BBQ, just dont expect the best BBQ ever.

I normally try a restaurant twice before I make a judgment. Not here. I ate at Thursday lunch. Moderately busy. Got pulled pork platter with slaw and baked beans. I am currently staring at the half eaten meal writing this to save a reader from this place. Now, I am a BBQ snob, but will accept variation. Here, my «pulled» pork was old, dry, and sweetly bland. They serve it with a spoonful of a red sauce, that has interesting flavored drowned by sugar. Don’t sauce my pork is my first request. Slaw? To sweet. Beans OK. Just OK. Cornbread was good, dense and seem like it might have been prepared in an iron skillet. In a town that lacks good BBQ, I was full of hope. Unfulfilled. Decent BBQ is not difficult to pull off — pun intended. Oh well…

I’m underwhelmed. I started my meal by trying the mac ‘n cheese… it’s not just that I didn’t like it, it was terrible. I let my husband try it without warning him and he, who eats and enjoys most food, was close to being disgusted. The collard greens were ok. They were swimming in juice; not my preferences but still satisfactory to taste. The cornbread was dense, and tasted of peppers and onions; different, but good. The pulled pork was good! I enjoyed it. My husband liked the daily special which was jumbalaya. But overall, it will be a while before I return and I won’t bother to recommend Moe’s to anyone just yet.

OMG! These ribs! Soooo juicy! So thick! So smoky! Falling right off the bone! My fiancé and I(who have both grown up on the best BBQ) have been talking about ‘em ever since. Great value, too.

Went to this place while I was attending Bank Management School at UVA, they even did a fundraiser for us and donated part of the sales back. I had the smoked wings and they were the best wings I have ever had. The service and staff were great and I hope to be going back there the next time I am in C-Ville. I was not aware this was a chain as some people have commented as it seems to be locally owned.
