Just ordered couple of hamburgers with everything. Both came different one looking like sloppy Joe, mostly ketchup, the other one just bun and burger. Both were almost unwrapped and thrown in the bag. Don’t know about the taste. But looked unappetizing. Trash.

You really can’t beat the prices at Cookout. At times the food takes a while but what you’re getting for the price you pay is overshadowing. I come here late night mid-day and sometimes both. It’s for sure one of the best fast food options in Charlottesville!

I ordered for a pickup meal April 16th and once I started eating my coleslaw what did I find but hair in it. I tried to call the restaurant no answer so am I a little upset of course because what I don’t expect to find is someone else’s hair in my food so based on that one star and learn to pick up the phone when you have a situation of a unhappy customer with the original receipt

Only for people who know nothing about barbecue because this is as bad as it gets. If there were 8BBQ restaurants in town, this would rank 8th. If there were 12, this would rank 12th. They don’t even know the difference between chopped BBQ(the best, and they claim to serve that) and minced BBG, the very ordinary way they actually serve. They are open late at night when all the better places are closed, for what that’s worth. The atmosphere reminded me of … Baltimore. I saw on the bulletin board tonight that the manager is holding a MANDATORY7AM meeting in the morning for all staff including those who close up at night. I hope the employees realize they are legally supposed to be paid for any time they are required to be there, such as for that meeting.

Absolutely terrible. I was working a convention at the John Paul Jones arena and ordered a BLT for takeout. When I got back after picking it up, I pulled it out and saw what they called«bacon» but looked more like intestines. It was so gross. On top of that, the buns and«bacon» were all soggy and honestly looked so inedible. This food went straight into the trash where it belongs. So, so bad.

I was introduced to Cookout in college, and always try to visit when I’m in the South. This particular Cookout is the nicest and largest Cookout I’ve ever been to. I’m used to visiting the Cookout’s in NC that only have a walk-up window and 2+ drive-thru’s. My go-to order is always the tray — you get so much food! I love the burgers, corn dogs, and chicken wraps. The milkshakes are incredible as well– mint Oreo is my all time fave! If you’re looking for inexpensive, quick, yummy takeout– Cookout is the place to be. With regards to this particular Cookout, my fiancé and I came in around 10:30pm on a Friday evening after my train arrived to CVille over an hour late. The entire place was packed full of loud, screaming high schoolers who had moved around chairs and were all but running in circles. Not really the restaurant’s fault, but I have to imagine that many kids running around put them very close at max occupancy for fire code safety.

Late night? Craving fast food? Cheap? Check. Check. Check. I would probs choose Cook Out over McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc. any day for a late night food run. Mostly for their milkshakes. Oh my god their milkshakes are to die for. But they also offer a great variety of burgers, hotdogs, quesadillas, finger-fast foods, etc! The infamous Cookout Tray is only $ 5 in which you have the option of a main dish, two sides, and a fountain drink(or a shake for $ 1 — which is so worth). = perf for a college student’s budget haha I mostly come for the shakes though — I could finish like three in a sitting. I highly recommend the strawberry cheesecake or oreo!

This is were you go like once in a blue moon. Because any more often than that I’d want to question my sanity. This is where you go when you need a really big and really cheap cheat meal, or drunk, which is the only 2 reasons to get me to go here(or with friends). It’s the most eclectic mix of American fast food, but it works. Cheeseburgers ROCK here, esp with the bacon onions and cheese addition. I love their pulled pork sandwiches too, the cole slaw on them helps beat out the Texas Pete sauce that makes it spicy. Hushpuppies are yummy here, surprisingly one of the only places to carry corn dogs, anddd quesadilla is quite delish. Only thing is their milkshake is more akin to a blizzard, it’s not drinkable by a straw, and it’s basically soft serve quickly blended with whatever toppings you want, Definitely more of a thicker ice cream dessert than smoothie. Like I said it’s great every once in a while!

Cook Out is awesome fast food!!! I wish they were in the Tampa area. A dozen hush puppies for a dollar is unheard of even in FL. The BBQ sandwich is so delicious! They have locations from GA to VA.

This review is ONLY for the shakes! The food is typical fast food, deep fried everything. But the shakes are the reason to come here. Very thick and tons of options to mix and match. Although you can tell its not real ice cream it tastes awesome and is open late!

If you’re looking for quality food, this is not your place; however, if you’re a starving night owl who gets hungry around 2:00am, I must say this place is your best option! Food is very cheap, in many cases you’ll find it even cheaper than McDonald! LOL I ordered their classic cheeseburger which comes with two sides, and my friends ordered the same. I must say the burger was a little too small, and I could easily consider having another one. We also ordered milkshake which was very thick more like an ice-cream! Overall, their affordable prices and unusual hours of operation makes it one of my favorite places in C’ville!

One of my favorite burger paces here. I would say, they used to have better and thicker burgers than they do now, but it’s still not disappointing.

Eh burgers lacked seasoning even with all the extras that come with it. I had the Cookout burger with chili, cheese, onions and mustard. The fries gained one star and the shakes, of course, was good. Many have raved the Banana Pudding shake and yes, it’s like home.

Pretty good fast food. Spicy chicken sandwich was better than BK or McD but not as good as Wendy’s. Fries were nothing special. I did like the bacon wrap. The bacon cheddar hotdog was a decadent late night kind of snack. The shakes were very thick and well worth the $ 2.50 it costs.

You can’t spend $ 5 better than having a lunch at Cookout. I eat there at least monthly. I highly recommend the Cajun Chicken sandwich! The Banana Pudding Shake is also a must.

Best fast food place ever. Lightyears ahead of McDonalds, Burger King, etc. This place has great burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, bbq, quesadillas, you name it! All the food is cheap and it comes out really fast. Their Cookout Tray is the best deal ever; $ 5 for a main dish, two sides, and a fountain drink(other drinks cost extra). Their hamburgers actually taste like they have meat in them and their fries are solid. Their«fancy shake» menu is also really extensive with the amount of flavors you can get, and you can mix and match any number of flavors you want! Just be careful not to overdo it otherwise your beastly concoction doesn’t fit through the straw. The Cheerwine float is also a must-try as a drink/dessert. The tray is the best deal, but you can also get a variety of other items for a low price as well. The BBQ sandwich is not one of those sandwiches you’d think was made in assembly line or printed out of a 3d printer. it’s the real deal. One of the main reasons why I like Cook Out so much is because their fast food is ACTUAL food. Just decadent, greasy, Southern fast food that is the epitome of greatness. Popular drunk munchies spot for late-night treks, so don’t be surprised if you see an army of college students with a BAC of their GPA in droves at Cook Out if you go late. Overall a great place to grab fast food, and I really wish they weren’t just in the South. Us NoVA people ache for its expansion up here.

I am basing this review on the milkshakes we purchased, not the food. We did not eat here just ordered milkshakes. The ice cream was not creamy and the milkshakes were frozen solid. You definitely could not use a straw for the milkshakes. I would rather have one from Ben & Jerrys or McDonalds or Arbys next door.

Cook Out knows what it wants to be — a low priced, late night, junk food mecca — and it does that to perfection. Having lived north of the Mason Dixon line my whole life, I wasn’t even aware Cook Out existed until coming to Charlottesville. What an experience it was — obscenely low priced food that isn’t that bad. It’s not going to be a gourmet experience, it’s fast food, but it’s pretty good for fast food. Most items are $ 0.99 — $ 2.00, and include burgers, fries, BLT, hush puppies, onion rings, etc. including $ 2+ milkshakes that are actually pretty good. This location is also well maintained, with ample seating and an appropriately sized parking lot. It’s not high-end, but it’s cheap and good at what they do. I highly recommend if you want good cheap fast food or if it’s 2AM and you can get your DD to take you here.
