Delicious Thai food and relaxing al fresco venue, but service was slow. We waited for about 25 mins to get our appetizers served. Lack of staff.

I’ve been to Monsoon the past few times I’ve been to Charlottesville, and I’m always looking forward to the next visit by the time I leave. They have a fair sized menu with veggie and meat options, and very generous portions. My go to dish is always the tofu pad Thai, but I would love to work my way through the menu. Service is prompt, and always pleasant, even during busy dinner hours. Look at pictures for proof of deliciousness.

Love their Chicken Pad Thai and Spring Rolls. The lunch special is a very reasonable price and comes with spring rolls and either soup or salad. Very friendly staff, great outdoor seating, and right off the Downtown Mall!

Food was pretty good. Really nice outdoor patio. Service was… minimal. Took 10 min to get a waiter to take our order and had to get up at the end to ask for the check.

Consistently good food. Also consistently late. Estimate is always for an hour and it always takes way longer. I’m done.

My all time favorite Thai food anywhere in the country! I can’t express enough how good this place is. Highly recommended! And very reasonably priced.

Very good. Haven’t been here in probably 10-years. It used to be excellent and then fell off fast. Didn’t go back for a long time. A friend told me it was good again and I agree. The lunch special is very reasonable in the $ 7 – 9 range with soup or salad and spring roll and the portions are large. Quickly becoming one of my favorite Thai places in town.

My fiancé and I eat here pretty often as its the best Thai food in Cville. We decided to go for Restaurant Week, and per the norm at Monsoon, the entire experience was outstanding. We started with the Sai Auo(spicy pork sausage) and the Moo Yang(marinated and grilled pork). Both had tons of flavor. The Sai Auo was made with thai chili peppers which gave it an intense heat with a good balance of flavor. We both ended up having the Ramen for our entrée. It was packed with a good variety of fresh seafood. The broth was perfectly flavored and the noodles were cooked just right. We didnt really care for the Taro Dumpling(personal preference) but we loved the salted caramel ice cream. Once again, Monsoon proved how amazing they are from beginning to end.

Love their food! Be careful about ordering through Order Up — they don’t read the instructions and if you ask for even the slightest change(like spice level), they won’t accommodate you. But otherwise good food for a good price!

I have been to this restaurant a couple of times. I would say it’s best Thai food in town except for the wait time.

Totally in love with this Thai restaurant!!! I always get the Kad Paow Ka Pow with chicken and an order of cigar rolls. Always so taste and cooked the same way each time. Enjoy going back again and again.

I’m a big fan of Monsoon. I moved from NYC to Charlottesville last year and was heartbroken to leave behind the thai place next to my apartment that had the most perfect drunken noodles. But then, I found Monsoon. My go-to dish is the pad see ew with chicken. The chicken is always fresh and plentiful, and the noodles are always cooked perfectly. It’s well-sauced(I hate when noodle dishes end up dry) and the sauce is just the right amount of sweet. Their spring rolls are also perfection – crispy on the outside, flavorful on the inside. I’ve also tried the pad thai, drunken noodles, soup, and salad, all of which are delicious. I love their lunch deal, it comes with an entrée, a spring roll, and your choice of a soup or salad. For around $ 10 it’s a huge amount of food and I always have leftovers. The staff is also pleasant and attentive. I luckily haven’t had some of the service issues that other reviewers have mentioned. Unfortunately picking up takeout is a pretty big pain since there’s no parking around, but it’s definitely worth the inconvenience.

I generally hate to use the words over-rated, but I feel like it’s applicable in this instance. I’ll get to the food; but firstly: the service here is really poor. Empty glasses for periods of 10 to 15 minutes; appetizer served 2 minutes before the main course; one of our entrees had the entirely wrong meat in it. Past this, the food was decent, but generally not flavorful. I – being a fan of traditional Thai food – ordered my curry spiced«hot». What I received was instead something between mild and medium heat, lacking any of the traditional flavors of penang curry, instead resembling the curries in a box one finds in the super market. Go to Thai Cuisine & Noodle House instead.

Always enjoy their Pad see eaw, cigar rolls, and their beef noodle soup. Another delicious dish called Kao soi, i believe monsoon is the only place to get this special dish. Another favourite to get is the grilled eggplant salad

Oh, Monsoon. Your food is delicious, but your service is horrendous. If you have to have some of their food, for the love of god, get take out or have it delivered. I’ve been here several times and finally felt the urge to write a review. Each time we’ve had the same waiter, and each time he has been awful, whether it’s just two of us or a large group. Long waits to be addressed after sitting down, long waits for drinks, long waits for food, forgotten and wrong food orders, cold food, asking for water 10 times and never getting any, etc, and never any apologies. I thought maybe it was just me, but no — the last time I was here, I looked around at nearby tables throughout the meal that were being served by the same individual and I can tell you that every single one of them was also extremely disappointed. Step up your game, Monsoon. You have what it takes to be a great restaurant, and I know you make a decent amount of money — put some of that into improving your service! Until then, my friends and I won’t be back.

I have to credit the management for easing a large group of hungry patrons into the inside room. Tall beer towers and spiked Thai iced teas were served in moments. We were sad to give up our outdoor seats circumventing the tree bench outside(clever !!!) but we had over ten people. I’m definitely gunning for those seats next time. The appetizer of spring roll was fried to perfection. The spiked Thai iced tea was a brilliant suggestion by the bartender. I hate to dock a star but my fried fish fillets were like jerky. Tough sweet and sour suckers that had me begging for floss. I also asked for max spiciness, but was underwhelmed. Not sure when is the next time I will be in Charlottesville but you can be damned sure I’ll be back here sitting on that tree bench.

This is a great place, reasonably priced and delicious. I got the Pad Fresh Ginger with chicken. The chicken was tender, the sauce wasn’t drowning in oil, and the rice was fresh and soft. Our waiter was jolly, attentive, and friendly!

Hubs and I tried this place out just after 5 on a rainy Sunday. The patio looked fun, but because of the rain we chose inside where it was small and cozy. They had happy hour, which was a really good deal on draft beers, but we already had our hearts set on some Thai iced tea. We started with the chicken satay, which was very flavorful, as well as the spring rolls. I really enjoyed the sauces that came with the appetizers and sometimes mixed them up between the dishes, which was also tasty. We both ordered the chicken pad thai, since once of our favorite things is to compare different restaurants’ interpretations of the dish. I was pretty happy with this version. However, only because they had so many other interesting-looking things on the menu, I would probably branch out next time.

We met some friends at Monsoon Thai for dinner on a Wednesday evening. The place was pretty much empty, so we were seated right away along the back wall. There was some weird wood décor on the wall, and my arm ended up scrapping against it throughout our meal. I could have done without that. I had a hard time deciding to what to drink, and I could tell I was really annoying the server. But hey, they don’t have a printed beer list, and I couldn’t see the handles well enough to know exactly what they were. We started off our meal with spring rolls and calamari. Both were pretty good although nothing out of this world. For my meal, I ordered the Panang curry with tofu, and my boyfriend ordered the green curry with chicken. Our meals were also pretty good. This isn’t the only Thai option near the Downtown Mall, but it is the only one in that area that I’ve tried. I would probably try somewhere else nearby next time. I’ve definitely had much better Thai at places off of 29.

The atmosphere was good, and lots of people are outside. I had the beef noodle soup, and it was reallyy good. The beef soup was sweet and tasty. My family tried the pad Thai, and cashew chicken also

This was the first Thai restaurant I’ve eaten at since visiting Thailand three months ago, and the food was great and definitely lived up to Thai standards. The spring rolls and calamari to start were really good. I had the vegetarian fried rice, and it was great. Other people had the drunken noodles and curry and really liked those dishes as well. I would definitely recommend this place(even though parking is a little tricky if you’re not within walking distance).

The food here is pretty good and the ambiance is nice. However, the service is really slow. Additionally, one of the last times I visited I arrived at 9:10 and the hostess told me they were closed when they didn’t close till 930.
