We all know about KFC and their food. Good stuff. And this location is a very good one. Five stars to KFC.(Except for the nasty Broad Street location, of course.) So why am I reviewing KFC? Might as well review McDonald’s, right? Well, it’s because they have introduced Nashville hot chicken to the menu! Only the third or fourth flavor of chicken they’ve ever introduced! This is a major development for KFC. This review will not figure into the overall rating, in case anyone is keeping score. I’ve had Nashville hot chicken(NHC) in Nashville, where it was invented(one would assume), at Prince’s and also Bolton’s. I think Prince’s is more well known, but Bolton’s may be a little better. Also had some at 55 South in Franklin. They came up with a VERY good version of NHC. America’s Test Kitchen did a version. There are other versions on the internet. OK, you would think with the millions of dollars that KFC has at their disposal for R & D, they would just absolutely nail their version of NHC. It’s not rocket science, is it? 55 South did it great, for one. But KFC just completely struck out with their attempt at NHC. First of all, the versions I’ve had in Nashville did not have«extra crispy» crust. But KFC’s does. So right off the bat, they missed. But the flavoring was too sweet and a bad kind of hot. Can’t explain«bad kind of hot.» I like hot, but not this kind. The result was just terrible and quite disappointing. I hope KFC doesn’t give up on serving NHC. But the formula needs to be tweaked.
