My father and I came to Uncle Larry’s after a trip to Ruby Falls. We were traveling from Atlanta. Once we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted and told to sit wherever we liked.(There were not many options as it was busy.) I had the Whiting meal and my father had the Catfish meal. The food came really quickly and it was hot and delicious. We opted to have the cole slaw and fried okra — they didn’t disappoint. We wanted to try a dessert, but we were just too full. I did notice that the Banana Pudding was very popular. The only thing that could be improved is the restroom. The place had great customer service and everyone seemed so friendly. I would definitely come back and would recommend it to a friend.

Some of the friendliest people we have met since we arrived in Chattanooga and the fish was wonderful. Very crispy and not greasy at all. Try it with the smack’em sauce. Fried okra was delicious too. Go see Uncle Larry — you won’t be sorry!

I’ve finally found decent fried fish in TN! Spectacularly fresh tasting. Two batters available, a thin crispy cornmeal and then a Cajun medium spicy not too salty heavier batter. They offer Perch, Whiting, Catfish, and Tilapia. We got the Cajun perch and standard catfish. Both outstanding. It’s easy to over salt and cook either. Both of ours were perfect. The onion rings are fresh made. The white beans are my favorite side with a hearty liquor and nice herb/spice. Cooked down to perfection. I know in gushing, but coming from a long time in Franklin Parish, LA(the Catfish capital) and Baton Rouge, I couldn’t be happier to find the best source of fish in Chattanooga.

When I first got to the place I was skeptical, the old store with outdated basic dinning room do not give this place justice. But after ordering variety platter I was astonished by the amount of fish and the variety. I was not able to finish my platter and took the rest of it to go box.

It was the sign that caught my attention when recently visiting Chattanooga… «Fish so good it will smack ya!» Well, I got smacked! The serving of fried catfish was plentiful, as well as hot and tasty. The side were excellent as well, reminding me of Southern meals I had experienced when much younger. Add in a friendly and warm staff and the overall experience was one I am bound to repeat when next in Chattanooga.

Very friendly people without the typical scripted welcome speech and pretentious blather of server introductions. Fast service, clean, and outstanding fried fish. I had both tilapia and perch and was as good as I’ve ever ate anywhere. Plenty of food, not skimpy portions. Reasonable prices, and Uncle Larry was a genuine nice guy. Uncle Larry mentioned that he’s considering catering where he can fry the fish on location. I hope he does. Great work, Uncle Larry. I’ll be a once-a-week regular with you and your fine family.

The food was fantastic. I was not expecting that much fish on my plate. I recommend the food to everyone. The place is small inside to dine in but durable. I am from Slidell Louisiana and I love seafood. The food here reminded me of home.

Definitely lived up to its name. Great local food, small dinner feel. People were very nice. Great prices. Cajun batter is the way to go! Hush puppies were great, turnip greens cooked just right. Would definitely recommend it.

Had a great experience with Uncle Larry and his staff. The catfish and whiting were amazing, ensure you am get them Cajun style with a side of smack ‘em sauce! That sauce gave it another nice kick. The greens were perfectly cooked. Along with this make sure you place a pin of where you’re from to fill the map! Beware if you don’t finish your plate you will have to take a picture showing you were smacked. I almost forgot the amount you pay for the amount of food you get is well worth it’s price.

I’ve read the reviews for this place and was really looking forward to it. First off, I’m not a big fish person so I knew I’d be ordering something from the usual. I ordered the shrimp plate with beans and onion rings. I also ordered the jumbo dog with chili and toppings. I then ordered 2 cobblers, the apple and blackberry. I got this order for delivery from Dinner Delivered. It came pretty fast, which is surprising. The shrimp was ok. Nothing special, like they were pre-made. I also didn’t get the onion rings I paid an additional amount to have but instead got cole slaw. That was disappointing. The slap yo’ mama sauce was ok too. The hot dog was good, but I’ve had better. the cobblers had great flavor but they were cold. Like refrigerator cold. Cobbler needs to be hot. I might try it again and dine in but nothing really hit me as fantastic. I’m bummed.

A small, quaint, family owned restaurant packs a good punch. In fact their slogan is «I just got Smacked.» A top rated restaurant on Trip Advisor and deserving of Unilocal!Top ratings as well for Chattanooga. There is nothing fancy about fried fish, and nothing too fancy about Uncle Larry’s Restaurant either. But it is some of the best fried fish you can put into your mouth! Larry he myself came by to introduce himself and thank us for coming in. I. Can highly recommend the catfish and tilapia. They were both great! The menu is pretty concise: catfish, tilapia, perch and whiting. They also have some fried hot dogs, and shrimp, a fair list of sides and a shrimp and crab salad. Not to mention some homemade desserts. If you are in Chattanooga, and have a hankering for fish, definitely come and check out Uncle Larry’s!

I was visiting from Atlanta and didn’t expect to find such a good seafood restaurant in landlocked Chattanooga! My wife planned the visit to Uncle Larry’s based on other reviews and it did not dissapoint. I had the catfish with sides of onion rings and fried okra. The portion sizes were HUGE. I couldn’t finish everytjing… which hardly ever happens. If I’m ever in Chattanooga again, I’ll definitely be coming back!

I think Uncle Larry has some friends skewing the reviews. For the life of me could not figure out hoe this could have been the same place these other folks have eaten! I had the whiting fish while a friend had the catfish. The breading on both was the same even though in photos online they look to be different. The whiting that I had was laden with small bones, and was not that great. I also had the shrimp,(which looked as if it came from a box with the Gordon’s Fisherman on it). I had the okra as a side. It was fresh & very good too. The slaw was average at best. While I was not impressed at all by the food, the friendliness of the folks there is as touted in other reviews. The desserts looked amazing but I did not try any, maybe it’s a good place for dessert?

This place is a no frills joint with simply great fried fish. The ambiance wont impress but they have the best fried fish I’ve come across in a long time. Prices are fair and the portions are large and served fresh and hot! Fish is fried to a golden brown with a corn meal crust. They offer a few types of fish to choose from. The owners are friendly and do a good job in making you feel welcomed. We also enjoyed their sweet tea. Freshly brewed and sweet but not too sweet.

I wish I could give it ten stars. This is one of the best restaurants in Chattanooga. (Andre, they have their own version of tartar, which they call«smack ya sauce.» You’ll never want tartar again after tasting their sauce.) If you want atmosphere, a great view, great margaritas, paying way too much, bad food, cold food, and uninspired service, this is not the place for you. But if you want some of the best food in town, at a great price, served by some of the nicest people you will ever meet, you’ll like Uncle Larry’s. For around $ 8, I got four pieces of tilapia and two sides. I can’t find any words to describe the fried fish here. It is that good. Larry’s cooking was a hit at family functions, so he was encouraged to open a place. He is very humble about his success. He told us today, «I can’t believe I have a restaurant. I give all the credit to the Lord.» Uncle Larry’s is one of the best restaurants in Chattanooga. I wish the Unilocalers would have a gathering here. I’ll be there if they do.

I had the fried catfish plate and it was two nice sized pieces. They were cooked perfectly with a good batter. I also had the fried okra which was good. No tarter sauce came with the meal though which I would have liked to have. There was a good red hot sauce on the table that I used instead and it was good.
