Kool Stop

We’re all a bit tired of self-​serve FroYo places, aren’t we? I know I am. Every time I look around, I see a new frozen yogurt establishment opening up. They are all the same, right? Well, Kool Stop (KS) does have a few things that I haven’t seen before and I liked. Want to know what they are?
1) I love the vibrant, fun décor inside. I don’t have little ones anymore, but I imagine they would enjoy the animal mural on the wall. You can’t help but smile when you walk in there and see those huge eyes on the elephant, hippo and flamingo.
2) KS has small containers for free samples right next to the regular containers. I was impressed! I’ve never seen samples at other FroYo places, so this was a first. Many times I’ve wanted to try a flavor but refrained since I couldn’t taste it first.
3) They also have milk shakes and smoothies! ($ 3.75) This seems like a great idea and not sure why other places don’t offer these as well. Maybe the reason is because the novelty is for self-​service.
4) KS is a local business; it is not a chain like Sweet Frog. I am always happy to support my neighbors instead of giving money to a national company.
So, there you go. KS is an above average place, and if you have a craving for dessert in the Chesapeake Square area, I can definitely recommend it.

First impression — clean — very clean. Granted it is brand new, you never know what to expect as stuff does happen. How it works is rather self explanatory. You grab a cup (there are two — one that wide, the other tall. I’m assuming they’re the same volume, just different how they’re being given). Fill it up with a frozen yogurt combination of your choice, then put the toppings on as desired.
The combinations and topping choices were fairly substantial. To be honest I was a bit overwhelmed b/​c i wanted everything. However, if you’ve ever taken every flavor of something you like (we’re talking mangos with rainbow sprinkles here), you end up with a rather «intriguing» flavor. After you create your masterpiece, you put it on a scale and then they price you out. Overall the price point seems very fair.
The only problem I had was with the service. Upon walking in, I went to Unilocal check-​in on my phone I received a 15% off coupon towards my purchase. Stoked about my findings, I showed the coupon to the person at the register and his first comment was «Only if you review us». I’m fairly confident that there wasn’t a line item on the Unilocal coupon that stated «only get 15% if you review this company». however, desiring not to be rude I said «I assure you sir I will.» Looking down I saw a punch-​card for buy 9, get 1 free. I went to grab it and look at it and immediately I was told «you can’t use with coupon». Granted it was a nice thought, that actually wasn’t where I was going with it. I was buying for myself, my wife, her best friend, her best friends husband, and their two kids. Basically, I made sure I was in the front and wanted to treat them and was just bored and looking around. Having understand where the mis-​communication was, I put the card down and just agreed.
With regards to the seating, the one thing it lacks big time is outside seating. We sat at the Jimmy Johns picnic table next door and I’ll be honest, I felt a bit rude in doing so. But alas, the kids had a great time and in my opinion, that’s all that mattered with this visit.

I don’t need to travel to Suffolk for some sweet frogs. Kool Stop is just like sweet frogs. Close to the mall and it’s right next to Starbucks! Friendly staff and so many flavors!
