To all my friends who live near here, they keep telling me it’s the hotspot for people who live in Chesapeake. So I planned out to have brunch with some friends. The location is definitely easy to miss, if you get on the little bridge you have gone too far. I guess you can say it’s a «hole in a wall». The staff was perfect, always greeted with a smile and I never had to ask for anything because they were already on point. After looking through the menu, I decide to get the Filipino breakfast. For the millions of Filipino breakfast dishes I’ve had in my lifetime, this place was really good compared to the others. I can see myself going here again but the distance seems a bit too far from my house. I recommend trying this place out, you won’t be disappointed.

Went here for a Sunday breakfast before having to drive back to Northern VA. It’s closeby and is a popular local spot to eat. The Filipino breakfast was expensive, $ 8.00. I might as well hit up Felynn’s or Kainan, but I tried it anyway since I was in the mood for some tocino. My boyfriend got the 2 eggs with corned beef hash, which was $ 6.75. Both were tasty, since we were both starving. We got here at the right time because it started to get packed once we left. There’s a large selection of things on the menu, so I think even the pickiest person would be able to choose something they like. They also have weekday breakfast/lunch specials for cheap. The service was great, and all the employees were very friendly.

Homemade lunch specials Monday through Friday. Homemade sweet potato and buttermilk biscuits. Their shrimp and grits are out of this world. They have an amazing Sunrise Omelet with everything in it! The owners and employees are extremely friendly and pleasant. I’m voting this restaurant best breakfast and lunch in the Hampton Roads area!

My husband’s aunt and uncle recommended that we stop here before leaving town. The place was packed. We ended up snagging a table right in the middle of this small, kind of drab looking place. Its definitely got some Mom and Pop charms. From the wacky assortment of décor to the uneven tables. My husband had the traditional breakfast, which he enjoyed. I had the skillet, which was good except that the potatoes were overly salty. The service was good. Fast and with a smile, we were in and out within a half hour. We’ll probably end up visiting here again, but it won’t be my 1st choice.

Really nice people here! The restaurant is very cozy, warm, and family feeling. Great menu items and really, really good prices. You do get your money’s worth here– in addition to the variety. Everything taste very fresh and delicious. It was my first time here. Will definitely be back again.

Sunrise is a choice spot to meet for early breakfast to start a day motorcycle riding. The décor is bright and cheerful as is the staff. The food is good, fresh, served quickly and reasonably priced. I wish they were closer to my house!

After being told by numerous friends to try Sunrise, I excitedly ventured out to Chesapeake with my family for breakfast. We were warmly welcomed and greeted as soon as we walked in. They were busy on a Saturday morning around 10:30. We had a party of 4 adults, 2 tots, and a baby. I do not have much experience with Philippino food but am always looking to try new things. With that being said, I decided to try something new and ordered the Philippino breakfast. The waitress asked if I wanted longanisa or tocino. Not knowing what each were, I asked if I could have a piece of both instead of one or the other. When our food arrived, I saw that she had provided two separate plates of meat but did not think to question it since they were busy. Everyone ate and finished their breakfasts. The tocino and longanisa were very, very greasy. I did not eat either plate unfortunately. Aside from those two things, everything else was just okay, nothing special. When we got the bill, we noticed they had added gratuity since we had a «party of 6+» even though the tots & baby did not eat. I also saw that the waitress had charged me $ 6 for an additional plate of longanisa(in which I did not eat and she was well aware of that). At the cashier, the lady was very nice but overcharged me then got upset for doing so. I told her to just keep the extra money as an additional tip, even though service was awful and gratuity had already been added… This felt like a large waste of money and a time on a Saturday morning. We will not be back and I wouldn’t recommend this shop to others.

Quick breakfast spot with OK prices. Clean and friendly staff. Food was good. Pancakes came out a little cold, but the taste was good.

It was breakfast so expectations weren’t that high. Food was palatable and the service was adequate. I was more taken aback by the employees, wait staff, almost unwillingness to help each other to ensure a comfortable dining experience.

Delicious food, friendly staff and that ma and ps breakfast feel. Came across this place on Unilocal while driving to NC and so glad we made the stop. Food was delicious and reasonably priced as well. Coffee was delicious too

I’d been wanting to try this place for the longest time because of all the good things I’d heard about it. I finally suggested it to my boyfriend, who was just as excited to check it out. We came on a Sunday morning, so it was pretty busy. You seat yourself, and we were luckily able to find seating right away. All of the servers were very friendly and quick to give us menus and get our drink orders. I’d ordered the Filipino breakfast because I can never resist tocino. My boyfriend got the same thing, except with longganisa. We both really enjoyed our food. The tocino was delicious, and my eggs were perfectly cooked just the way I wanted them. The toast was buttered and tasted great. My boyfriend said he’d never had such fresh fried rice before. He basically devoured his plate! We both really loved this place, and I can see it being a new regular spot for us. And I would definitely take other people here as well. I really enjoyed our experience!

Each of our meals were less than $ 7. My meal was less than $ 5. I had… I think it’s called Kaylee’s waffle… I can’t remember, but it’s the waffle with the strawberries and whipped cream. When we arrived, there is a sign in the entryway that tells you seat yourself. We had beat the crowd and was able to choose a booth. There was a young man wiping down the table and he welcomed us to the restaurant. A waitress quickly greeted us and took our orders. We immediately noticed they offered a Filipino dish and it was clear to us that this was a Filipino family owned restaurant. How cool! Our waitress was friendly. The food was delicious, the tables, plates, and utensils were clean, and the prices were affordable. My only recommendation is that they should update the décor.

My definition of reasonably priced must differ greatly from the rest of the people leaving reviews. I don’t feel that $ 45(including tip) is reasonably priced for a family of 4 which includes an 8 and 6 year old. The drinks are served in cans so you can forget about refills. The food came out in a timely manner but it didn’t look any better than I would do myself. The décor is dated. If I’m going to spend $ 50 on breakfast next time I’ll wait in line at The Broken Egg. It just wasn’t anything special. Nothing positive stood out. I’ve ate far better for a lot less. If that’s your thing, then by all means give them a try. We did once and don’t plan on going back.

Great restaurant, great service, great food!!! The N’awlins omelet was cheesy and I loved the mix of peppers and shrimp. The sweet potato pancakes were delish! I will definitely be back!!!

Tried this place for the first time today, there was another 30 minute wait at the egg. This place is a hidden delight, it’s been here 20 years and I’ve never been. It was pretty crowded but we found a seat pretty quick. The menu was simple, had everything I wanted, and the prices are nice and cheap. The food was good. The staff was super nice and friendly. I would come back again.

Love the sunrise. The best coffee around. They know me too well and usually bring me my own pot! Their menu is fairly extensive and they do an excellent job keeping all the food very hot. The service is fast, friendly and professional. Just the right atmosphere to have a nice breakfast with friends.

Popped in for brunch today. Happy to know that this is Filipino owned. That being said, I was hoping for a plethora of Filipino food options. Not that I know what would make a Filipino breakfast menu but apparently there’s only one choice on the menu: longanisa or tocino, fried rice, two eggs and toast. I had no choice. That’s what I went with. It was a decent meal. Nothing that made me do my happy food dance but it was decent. If I were to go back I’d probably give the American fare options a try. The staff was extremely friendly. Of course, they spoke the Filipino dialect so I just sat there nodding my head. I would say that a place like this with its diner-like set up caters more to the older crowd. The retired to be precise but it does set up nicely for families.

I know the family that owns this restaurant, can I still review? Well they don’t know, so this is a honest review. Been going here for over 8 years and food has been consistent each time. The staff is friendly, the owners have a great charity in the Philippines so They will often will have fundraisers in the evenings where they might do like a Speghatti dinner. The inside of the restaurant needs some updating. Looks like an 80’s diner with a lot of stuff inside, just stuff… The Filipino Breakfast is my go to meal when I come here. I love it, fried rice with Tocino and eggs. My hubby on the other hand, well they can’t get his scrambled eggs with cheese right. If you see in the pictures, it’s not scrambled. But they have a lot of other breakfast items & lunch/dinner options too. I like to support the locals, so if you do to come in and give them a try.

First, I will say I know the owners of this place and being a waitress here was my first job. With that in mind, I probably hold higher standards to the place than sing of false praises. I came here with a bunch of people from church after service and the place was already packed before we got a chance to sit down. Luckily, my group was able to find tables throughout the place for all of us to spread out. We placed our orders and got drinks first. I am a huge fan of the sweet tea here. If Gloria is making it, then I know that it has the perfect amount of sugar that might induce some diabetus if I drink this on the regular. Some true southern style ice tea that I hold all others to a standard. Enough about the drink. Food. I hardly ever order lunch since this place really delivers on breakfast. Two words: Home Fries. As for lunch, I got a cheeseburger and fries. Both were tasty and delivered hot. I will say that the burger was probably what I could make at home, but this place is all about home cooking. No fanciness, just good food. Service. Like I said, this place was packed. My group of about 20 or so didn’t help, but they pushed out the food as fast as they could even with a cook short. My table was one of the last to get food, but I know we all enjoyed the food and Natalie, our waitress, kept track of all of our requests for extra sauces, refills, etc. All of the waitresses are very friendly and you can see the bright personality of the place in the owner, Vergie, once you get up and pay as she’s usually by the register. Friendly service and a great home cooked meal will keep you coming back.
