CLOSED! Best chicken enchiladas in the city! But you had to get the hot sauce which was not on the menu. Too bad they are closed, very disappointed.

DONOTDRINKHERE The food is excellent, a tad pricey though. Server’s very good. The drinks are terrible. Four of us ate here last week, and every one of our drinks were bad. What are the chances of that to happen?

I bought a «Now Deal» off of Groupon to try Caoba out. I have to say I wasn’t dissatisfied. My boyfriend and I arrived at 5:00 when the restaurant opened, it was right after work for us, and we had to stand outside the door and wait. Finally, my boyfriend had the brightest idea ever(he’s so smart), he decided to call the restaurant to see if they planned on opening! The person who answered the phone said yes, and they came and let us in. We couldn’t have been too early because the Groupon did state it was good from 5:00pm — 7:00pm that day. After getting through the door we had a choice of whatever table we wanted to sit at, because we were the first people there! So I chose the table tucked in the corner by the bar. It was cozy and comfy, and gave us a little privacy. The waiter brought our water and the salsa and chips immediately. The salsa was great and kind of has a little kick to it. We ordered our drinks, I had the acai margarita and my boyfriend a dos equis. My margarita was delicious!!! We finally decided to order our food. I had the shrimp fajitas which were Yummy, and my boyfriend had the duck tacos with mole sauce, and he wasn’t too impressed. We did however learn that every jalepeno is not created equal, after eating the jalepeno which came with my fajitas! it was Muy Caliente!!! We both downed our water and our drinks after that… so I had to get another one of those delicious acai margaritas and him another dos equis! After my $ 15.00 off groupon the total came close to $ 50.00. I would go back for the fajitas, margaritas and salsa… but I would definitely stay away from the jalepenos!!!

Well, this is a sad review to write, because a friend had such a great experience and told me I had to go. The food came out luke warm and a bit salty for my taste; however, I literally just salt to taste in the cooking process and rarely add any at the table. So, it felt like Morton’s Salt had been dumped all over my food. The staff is great and the area is nice. You get such a warm ambiance when you sit down. It’s truly a great space. But I just felt a huge disconnect between the front of the house, what the menu offers and how it’s executed in the kitchen. The plates themselves are pretty large and you could definitely take a doggie-bag home for left overs(to heat up to your preferred temperature). ;-P Maybe it was my night going. I might give this place another shot. Who knows…

Stumbled upon this place on the way to a late dinner with girlfriends on Saturday night. We were geared up to go to Feast, but in efforts to try something new — decided to venture into Caoba. The amount of food matched well with the price point. The music was upbeat and trendy — so if you’re looking for a real Mexican ambiance, you won’t find that so much. However, the food is delicious. I had the Shrimp Fajitas with rice and beans. The amount of shrimp, vegetables and corn tortillas provided were greatly appreciated and all consumed. The margaritas were of the right consistency and tasted blended to perfection. Items that were«eh» but wouldn’t stop me from returning: Beans Lemonade

Good atmosphere, good food, decent service. The food was simple & well-prepared. My husband really liked the steak tacos, which are prepared the more traditional way(cilantro & onion rather than tomato, lettuce, & cheese). I had the veggie enchilladas, which were filled with zucchini & squash and topped with cheese, salsa verde, & sour cream. They were delicious. They have a great vegetarian selection. The normal veg choice in a lot of places – bean or avocado tacos, cheese enchillada, bean & rice burrito– are kind of boring. Caobo had a number of options that sounded great and which I’d like to try. The drink selection is pretty good, too. They white sangria was okay & the blueberry mojito, though my husband enjoyed it, tasted like a regular mojito. The service was pretty good, but our waters went empty a while & that is a pet peeve of mine. Waters should always be full. Aside from the water, the server was pretty attentive and the food came super quickly.

Disappointing food; uninspired menu The menu was nothing special. In fact, it was the kind of boring choices you would expect to find in a Lean Cuisine frozen dinner. Aside from that, the quality was only average. I really wanted to like it, but the fish tacos(tilapia, $ 15) were bland and ordinary, and the carne asada($ 18) came out as a mangled hunk of meat, WAY overcooked for my liking and was accompanied by only half a tomato, about five grilled onions rings, and three potato wedges. That’s a huge disappointment and makes for a pretty bland taco. Entrees and one mixed drink each ran us $ 60 out-the-door, and in my opinion it was not worth half that. Do yourself a favor and take that $ 60 to Hot Chocolate or Bluebird right up the road.

I stopped in for a late lunch today. I’d never even heard of it, and was originally going to go to Feast because I had a hankering for their skirt steak. Feast was closed, and I didn’t want to wait an hour for them to open, so I crossed the street to Caoba(which means Mahogany). I’d never even heard of the place, but I’m glad I decided to try it out. I see that the reviews are mixed, but I had a really great meal there. The avacado margarita was really, really, REALLY good. I had two of them. And it was lunch. And while not the strongest margaritas I’ve ever had, they definitely did have tequila in them and they wouldn’t have benefited from any additional liquor. The chips and salsa were really good, too. I don’t usually eat many chips at restaurants because I don’t want to overfill, but I couldn’t stop. I loved the smoky flavor of the salsa. I didn’t have any starters, but for my entrée(thank you spell-checker for the accented e) I ordered their Carne Asada con Queso, which I have to say was FANTASTIC! I order carne asada whenever I crave steak, which is usually a couple times a month, occasionally more, and so I’ve eaten it at a lot of places. This was a really delicious dish. The meat was perfectly cooked. The cheese was just enough — not so much that it looked like a plate of cheese, but enough to definitely enhance the flavor of the meat. Then with it on the grillbox(I don’t know what it’s called) was a grilled tomato, some expertly grilled red onion, a quartered potato and a grilled chile. You could taste the flavor of each ingredient, but the whole dish had this delicious smoky essence, yet wasn’t dry the way some grilled foods get. It came with tortillas and rice and beans on the side, which were fairly standard. Not exciting, but not bad either. Service was friendly and efficient. They were helpful and checked back without hovering. I will definitely go back to try more dishes.

I recently stopped eating meat so my review is based soley on the vegetarian menu. Shortly after we were seated a waiter arrived with chips & salsa and took our order. I’m a huge salsa fan… it was okay, needed some spice. I ordered veggie tamales with rice & beans. I had to put a lot of salsa on it to try to flavor it up. I love spices and tons of flavor and this dish had neither. The hubby ordered the carne asada. He LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it. The service was good, the restaurant was nice and it’s right down the street from where I work so I’m sure I’ll be back.

Perhaps a little pricy for a mexican joint. Nevertheless, if you’re in the mood to get a little frisky, you could do a lot worse than this place. For two people the fajitaesque option of splitting a parrillada de carne or mariscos is a pretty awesome choice. You will not leave hungry. You will enjoy a bunch of different options, all well cooked and splayed atop a portable grill surface amongst a sea of onions, peppers and jalapenos. Bonus for serving up a house creation of flaming tequila + baileys shots that were shockingly drinkable and amusing.

This was my second time here and this time I wasn’t hungover craving Mexican food, so it wasn’t as good as I remembered. We started off with the Queso and it was this MASS of cheese, not at all melted or gooey, it tasted pretty good, but it was very hard to eat. We shared the Mole Enchiladas and once again it was OK. The sauce was interesting and I probably wouldn’t order it again. All in all, the experience wasn’t memorable and I wont be rushing to come back here anytime soon.

Two words: Avocado margarita. Two more words: F*ck yeah! I know it sounds gross, but it’s so so so good! It’s cool and creamy with a bit of lime. Oh heavens! Drooool!!!

I came in for the $ 1 taco deal. The tacos were small, but one can’t complain considering the price. That they came in a pool of grease was worth griping about, however. The food was just average. I expected more flavor from the chorizo taco. Although I ordered also a carnitas taco, they brought me an al pastor taco, which had the consistency of rubber. The service was okay, considering there was one waitress for the entire restaurant. I got my check and noticed I was charged for two tacos that I didn’t order. I pointed out the mistake to the waitress. The amended check came back with just one of the tacos removed and an erroneous(?) addition of a side of jalapenos. They are either totally inept or totally sketchy.

It was about 2 pm on a Friday when I stopped by Caoba, and I was seated right away seeing as my friend and I were the only patrons in the restaurant. We both started with margaritas, and I have to say I was a little disappointed. They were very small, especially considering the $ 9 price tag. I gulped it down, and I will admit the nice buzz I had almost made up for the fact that I finished that tiny glass before my meal arrived. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla, and what I received looked nothing like a quesadilla; they resembled 4 little tacos. Whatever, I decided it didn’t matter because I was hungry. It was delicious! The shrimp was seasoned perfectly. I ordered this off the appetizer list and for $ 8, it was priced reasonably in my opinion(I believe the regular quesadilla was $ 6 or $ 7). All in all, a pretty good experience. I would come back to Caoba, though I will likely not order a drink next time.

The food here is really good — if you can get them to deliver what you ordered. We brought friends there on our recommendation and it could not have been a worse experience. My third visit will be my last. Here’s some free advice for you, Caoba: 1) If you bring a dish out wrong the second time you have to make it, we’re not going to ask for a third. We’re just going to pick around the bits you got wrong. Again. 2) When we complain about the dish for the second time, because you screwed it up again, you comp it. 3) If you have to ask, «Would you like your entrée comped?», you should already know the answer. And comp the whole entrée. Not half the entrée. That’s just idiotic.

I very much enjoyed this place for the following reasons: *Dollar Taco’s on Tuesday with the purchase of one drink *12 $ pitchers of Sangria on Tuesday night(which counts as a drink for my party of 3, thus letting us each have dollar tacos) *Free chips and salsa that was refilled more than once *Absolutely delicious grilled calamari and guacamole. I will for sure be back, most likely on a Tuesday to take advantage of these amazing deals again!

I love my mexican food and this is definitely one I recommend! The food was great and the service was just as great. For a dinner always looking to eat vegetarian unless I’m having sushi the options were endless. I ordered the chile rejeno and my friend ordered the veggie avocado tacos and we were both extremely pleased with our choices. Didn’t have a chance to have drinks because we had done an early lunch but would definitely consider going back for dinner and drinks soon

This review is only for sangrias. My friends and I needed a place to play scrabbles and we chose this restaurant. Ordered two pitchers of white sangrias. The sangrias were okay. I had better white sangrias at Café Babareeba. Oh, and they gave us chips and salsa. I didn’t like the chips. Too much oil and tasted kind of old. The salsa was pretty good though.

Well, this would be a 2.5 star place if half-stars were allowed. I’m not feeling generous enough to round up today. First, the good: the passion fruit margarita was really tasty! The service was adequate. The food was meh. The enchiladas were nothing special, and the salsa verde was kind of bland. The rice was undercooked and crunchy and they don’t have any beans that aren’t refried(as a more«upscale» Mexican restaurant, it would be nice if they did). All in all, not worth the price. I’d stop in here again for drinks but I doubt I’ll eat here again.
