Convenient Food

This place deserves 0 stars, but that’s not an option. ALSO, don’t be a fool, this store has another Unilocal account under «Convenient Food Mart.» There are more bad reviews on that account!
(1) Its run by rude people, and the business owner is horrendous. I’ve had so many bad experiences there, but I usually shrug them off since I live in the building. But this, I can just not let go. I went to drop off a USPS package at this store (its a USPS carrier). My box was prepaid for, all I needed to do is drop it off. I was in line for 10 mins; someone cut in front of me and I didn’t say anything; then finally, I was next up after them. Suddenly, the cashier (who is the owner) told me I have to wait to drop off the package because he wanted to attend to someone who just walked up. Seriously? All I have to do is drop off this package. So I told him that was pretty rude. He then said, «Oh yeah? You know how long I could make you wait?» I then explained that all I was doing is dropping off. He responded, «Get out. Take your package, I am not taking it.» So he literally refused to take my prepaid package, and told me to get the F out of the store.
(2) The prices are outrageous (i.e. $ 2-​$ 3 more than other places), and its not convenient. This is Chicago too. Go to the Walgreens literally a block away at 3201 N. Broadway St.
(3) For credit cards under $ 5, they will charge you extra $$. They probably can’t decline charges for under $ 5 (at least most businesses have an agreement with Visa/​MC that they won’t, so they can’t). So this place will charge you extra.
(4) Its visibly dirty. Have you looked inside this dirty place? The floors are old and looked like there never mopped. The shelving is practically falling apart. And if you purchase anything from there, BE SURE TO CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATE!
(5) Not Knowledgeable. The staff will make up fake rules and laws. For instance, I tried to buy a lottery ticket here one time around 7PM. The lottery stops selling tickets 15 mins till the drawing on the specific night. This place told me that they can’t sell it to me because its too close to the time to pick! What? I told them on the lottery website what time it really is, and even showed them it on my phone. They didn’t care. They told me its a law. Incorrect.

I love these guys. they are open late, and they have an amazing collection of things. Since I don’t guy packaged foods, I appreciate their small-​but-​useful selection of fresh veggies and fruits, as well as dairy, some office stuff and other miscellany. However, the real awesome secret is that they are a U.S. Post Office! You can send certified mail, etc. I love not having to go to USPS. The other thing is, it’s run by family, and they have put a lot of renovation into their store, and they are always so nice and courteous. They also rent a few vids and stuff… an amazing little enterprise! True, they don’t sell beer/​wine, but that’s nearby, so no worries for me.
Unlike Kevin B., have never experienced any sarcasm or rudeness.

Not very «convenient» to me…

I can’t help but add this store to Unilocal.Yes, its just another, no thrills, generic convenience store. But, what makes these places stick out are the people who work there. Everyone in the area sees these guys almost everyday, so you can’t help but think of them. So though the prices are high, which is expected for convenience, I recommend the place because the guys are nice yet can through out some witty and sarcastic comments that makes you want to slap them silly but still wish them a great day :)
