This deli is a great addition to the area… we eat here at least once a week. I am not wild about some of the items — the chicken salad(regular and low fat), egg salad, and tuna salad are too mayonnaise-laden; however, here are my FAVORITE items on their menu: matzo ball soup(with carrot/celery/chicken pieces), mushroom barley soup, and the Santa Fe salad(which, though not on the menu, comes in a smaller sized lunch portion — and it’s still huge). I never leave without stopping at the take out counter for the small smiley-face and black-and-white cookies to snack on later!

It’s refreshing to have a Max & Benny’s in the city! I had the Banana pancakes for brunch, which are great. The thick challah french toast is also excellent. Good omlettes and salads too. Something for everyone– oh, and fab matzo ball soup! It can get a bit crowded during the lunch rush and weekends, but doesn’t bother me.

Max and Benny’s is okay, it’s your standard deli/diner fare at decent prices(for downtown) but it’s not the kind of place I’d ever have an intense craving for. I like that so many things come with a side of gravy even though the gravy was kind of bland. One thing I don’t understand is the décor and food contrast, the place looks a lot fancier than the food actually is.

I’ve only gotten take-out from here, but it’s pretty decent. They do a good knish(thoughtfully with gravy in a small container on the side). If I’m in Chicago and have transportation, I’m at Manny’s, but this place seems good enough in a pinch. Nothing beat’s Manny’s though.

I’ve yet to actually eat here, but I pick up bagels and other treats from here all the time. The bagels aren’t as good as the ones in NY, but they are closer than most of the other delis in Chicago. The smiley cookies are great as well!

I’ve been eating here a lot lately because it’s not only good, but the longest I’ve had to wait for brunch here is 10 minutes. Everything is good. I usually get half a sandwich and chicken noodle soup(although last time they forgot the chicken!), but yesterday I tried the chicken pesto salad and was very pleased.

I’m not sure if it lives up to the suburban one because I“ve never been, but I thought my lunch here today was very good. I met a friend here around 12:30ish(prime brunch time) and was very surprised to see that it was pretty empty. Right away we figured that there was going to be something wrong with our meal, but decided to stick it out anyway. I had ½ sandwich and soup(cornbeef sandwich and matzo ball soup). Everything was delicious and they serve my favorite drinks– diet dr brown crème soda! It wasn’t the best matzo ball soup i’ve ever had, but I loved the cornbeef. I left very satisfied, especially after stopping in the bakery section and getting a smiley faced cookie. I’m not sure why no one else is eating here, but I think it’s really good!

I’m so excited that I don’t have to go all the way to the suburbs to eat at my favorite deli now that it has moved downtown. Everything is amazing here from the matzo ball soup to the sandwiches to the wraps.

I’ve been wanting to try Max & Benny’s for weeks and finally tried it this morning for brunch. As far as Chicago deli’s go I’m very impressed with this, but of course we have much better deli’s in Florida still. :) I tried the matzo ball soup and half a cornbeef sandwich(get the lean cornbeef– it’s really good). The waitress was very efficient and delivered our bill with our food to make sure we were out of there in no time. They also have my favorite cream soda! On the way out I stopped and got a black and white cookie. It was definitely good, although a true black and white cookie has cake underneath and not this butter cookie that was part of this one. Overall, a great deli experience and I look forward to going back soon.

I love the Northbrook location and was thrilled when they opened one in the city. I have been twice, and it isnt living up to the suburban one. The service is spotty and the food just isnt as good. My omlette was undercooked and I had to send it back, and my husbands gyro lacked flavor. This one also doesnt have nearly as many goodies in the front for take home.

They still have a few quirks to work out(as any new restaurant must do). The food is excellent — the service is improving quickly. I recommend the Chicken Gyro plate — it’s phenomenal.

A new Deli has arrived in the city and it’s actually good! I was here the other day and tried and had an omelet– it was great! The service was fantastic as well. Benny of «Max and Benny’s» stopped by the table to introduce himself and make sure everything was up to standards. I even watched him scoop out the middle of an old man’s bagel himself because the older man insisted they do it for him in the suburbs. Is that great service or what?

I agree with most of these reviews– Max and Benny’s is so good! It’s only been open a few months now, but I’ve been at least 10 times. I’ve tried numerous things on the menu and everything is delicious. It is crowded and there is usually a wait, but it’s not too long.

I’ve been here a few times in Northbrook, but tried the new downtown location today for the first time! It was so good! I had a turkey sandwich and amazing Matzo Ball Soup. My co-workers had different kinds of wraps… everyone raved about their food! The service was great too… we were seated immediately and the waitress was very friendly. I’m so excited a good deli has opened up in Chicago!

I was very excited to try the Max & Benny’s that all my suburban friends rave about. Unfortunately, I was let down. My omelet was pretty mediocre and it was way too crowded. I“m not a fan of seeing every person I know in Chicago. Next time I want this type of brunch I’ll be at the bagel.

This Northbrook favorite is a nice, new addition to the Streeterville neighborhood. It is next door to AMC theater, and has just opened for business. Although Max and Benny’s has the traditional deli favorites, it also offers healthy alternatives, such as salads and wraps. There is a nice take-out section for anyone wishing to bring Max & Benny’s home. The low-fat tuna salad and smiley face cookies are always good!
