Delivery was prompt, but food sucked. Way too expensive for what it is. I ordered a side of chow mein thinking I was going to get noodles and instead got noodle crackers. The Mongolian Chicken sucked, seems like they literally got some«mongolian» sauce from the local asian market and just slathered it on. Mixed in some onions and boom shitty shitness to say the least. The egg roll that came with the meal was pretty awful too. If I could not give a start I probably would. From the looks of the pictures of this place, it looks like it is all show and no go. Honestly, only go here if you are drunk and dont realize what you are eating or if you’re ready for horrible food. Good Luck.

Food arrived on time, but was very messy. Everything in separate containers, all leaking inside the bags they were in. General Tso’s chicken tasted like sweet and sour chicken from a mall food court. The only redeeming part of this meal was the egg roll, which was good although a bit greasy.

In our first night in our new apartment after an exhausting move, we ordered from Nan’s at 8:30p. An hour later our dishes arrived without sauce(how can you have General Tso’s or Sweet and Sour chicken WITHOUT sauce!?). I called and the guy said he’d send the delivery guy back out immediately. 30 minutes later I had to call again, the guy said he’d just sent the delivery guy out. Another 15 minutes later, the delivery guy finally arrived with COLDSAUCE to go on our COLDENTREES. I won’t order from here again thanks to their bad service that couldn’t even do something for their customers when THEY messed up the orders. Why would you not replace the order that is completely about the sauce. Terrible service, bad drivers. I’m done.

I ordered here on GrubHub for a work thing. Someone else chose the restaurant, and I was nervous looking at reviews, but whatever. I ordered Sesame(Vegetable), and put a note on it that I wanted Tofu, not vegetables. Their menu on their website indicates Sesame tofu was an option. What I got was four pieces of tofu, and a lot of gross fried vegetable-looking things. The brocolli was sufficiently gross that I didn’t even try it, lest I get herpes or something. I also got the chicken potstickers. Potstickers are simple — a bit of wrapper, stuffed full of stuff. Theirs were balls of dough with a little gross shredded chicken in them. I squeezed the oil out of two of them, coughed them down, and gave up. Anyway, maybe their food is better if you can clearly communicate in person and send stuff back. But outside of that — gross. Bad touch.

DONOTORDERFROMHERE!!! WORSTEXPERIENCEYOUWILLEVERHAVE!!! The one star is being nice! We ordered delivery and they delivered the wrong food. Over two hours after the initial order the order we had was not here correctly. We had called in and the manager had hung up on us several times in regards to it making excuses and when I suggested reversing the charge he said he had to call his manager and his manager wouldn’t answer the line. At that point the manager would hang up on us. I have nearly ten outbound calls to the restaurant regarding the incorrect order and most of them have been hung up on by the manager. I’ll qualify this by saying that I had Nan’s when it was catered into my office, so that might have something to do with this. After reading the reviews, I’m pretty confident that that has nothing to do with it. In any case, this is the absolute worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. If someone gave me the choice between this and Panda Express, I’d pay twice as much for the Panda Express. I got a platter of fried rice, Mongolian beef, Kung Pao chicken and an egg roll, all for $ 7. Not a bad deal, right? WRONG. After attempting to eat this, you honestly couldn’t pay me to eat it again. Let’s start with the egg roll. It’s soggy and chewy. There is very little taste – not even the salty overload you’d expect. Next is the fried rice, which is easily the worst fried rice I’ve ever had. They somehow managed to make a traditional Chinese comfort food taste like cardboard. I’m torn between giving this 1 star and 5 stars, simply because they’ve achieved something I didn’t even think was possible. I’m so repulsed by the thought of the chicken and beef that I don’t even want to review it, but I’ll try to hold down my urge to vomit for the sake of the review. The chicken was covered in what appeared to be maple syrup mixed with sand, and the only thing that wasn’t a gelatinous consistency were the water chestnuts. The beef was downright awful. I expect low-quality beef in a dish like this, but every single piece was stringy, sinewy garbage. I’ve typed enough, and I need to go to the bathroom before I get back to work, so I’m going to end my review here. Don’t eat at Nan’s.

Food came late even though they alerted grub hub that my order was on it’s way 10 minutes after I placed the order(really?, nans). Having a text message service to let your customers know the status of their order is helpful, but not when it’s abused. I feel taken advantage of. Also, the food is OK, nothing to wake the dead about.

I came here on a Groupon, and although it wasn’t the worst place I’ve ever eaten, I would not return. The place was empty, which makes me think it’s better for takeout/delivery to still be in business. The food was severly lacking in flavor and my sweet and sour breaded chicken was more bread than chicken, with maybe 2 pieces of broccoli. Of the three entrees my friends and I had, we did not finish, but nobody took any leftovers, and who doesn’t love chinese leftovers at 4 am after a night out drinking?! Plus, there’s a ridiculous corkage fee and the waiter didn’t even open the bottle. I’m not above opening bottles of wine myself, but if I’m paying a fee, don’t just toss the opener on the table and walk off! Anyway, it was disappointing and I’m not that picky when it comes to my Chinese food. We didn’t even bother trying the sushi after looking at the state of the restaurant.

I went to Nan’s Sushi«Under New Management» next door to the one pictured in this profile. It was a pleasure. The menu contained no Chinese food, only good sushi. We had the Big Mouth(tempura fish, avocado, cucumber, tomago, cream cheese), Fire Dragon(spicy tuna, avocado topped with unagi and tobiko) and Smoky Toby(shrimp tempura, cream cheese, smoked salmon) maki, all were very tasty and fresh. The Tuna Flight appetizer had incredible Super White Tuna and great tasting Red Tuna. We also had the Nigiri; Hamachi, Super White Tuna and Maguro(Red Tuna), all very delightful. We polished the meal off with a simple Spicy Tuna roll, a classic done well. The waitress surprised us in the end with some Mango and Chocolate Mochi which made our taste buds stand and cheer for Nan’s Sushi«Under New Management». Everything was fantastic. My favorite was the Super White Tuna and Fire Dragon. While my best friend really loved the Maguro(Red Tuna) and the Big Mouth. The waitress was a pleasure, very nice and attentive. The ambiance was great with very enjoyable music. I believe the place got bad rap when it was a Chinese place with sushi. It now only has sushi(the place next door has Chinese food now). I completely and whole heatedly recommend this restaurant. We had a fantastic time. I will definitely be returning and recommending this place to others. Thanks for the great meal and experience! Sincerely, One happy patron

My first time ever ordering Chinese food in Chicago and this place was so disappointing! I ordered the sesame beef and broccoli dinner entrée of their menu. When I got the entrée delivered to my home and looked inside the poor packing there were literally only two pieces of broccoli and TONS of sweet and sour sauce. Then when I started eating the beef it was mostly breading that I was consuming and barely any meat! Although the rest of what I had with the sesame dinner was decent(miso soup, egg rolls(which were free with my order), and the vegetable potstickers. All in all though, I will look for another place to eat Chinese, and read the reviews before ordering next time. :)

My friend and I came here because we had a Groupon deal. We both love sushi and getting Groupon deals for sushi places around the city is our thing. We both loved this place, and think it’s definitely the top three sushi places out of the 6 – 7 we tried… although it’s really weird that this place doesn’t have as many stars as these other places. First, we ordered some soups. I tried the hot and sour soup. I loved the consistency, it’s very rich and smooth. It’s also very stewy, in the sense that there was lots of ingredients packed it. Then, we tried three sushi rolls – snowcrab, white dragon, and something else whose name I can’t remember. For the snowcrab, the roll itself was so so, but the snowcrab they piled over all the rolls was amazing. It was slightly warm, creamy, and rich. The other two rolls were made very artistically, and tasted very fresh and crispy. We devoured everything very quickly. The service was prompt and the décor is lovely. I would definitely come back here more often.

I would give this more of a 3.5 stars. I’ve had their fried rice and various sushi rolls. Always pretty decent and inexpensive, especially when they had their happy hour deals.

The only reason I went here was bc of a Groupon that was given as a gift. I was hesitant to come here because of the reviews, but alas, a gift is a gift and my bf decided to check it out. I am strictly giving this place a 1 star because the food was so horrible. I don’t really consider myself a tough critic(evident by my numerous 4 – 5 stars), but I think this may possibly be the worst restaurant I have been to in my 3 years in Chicago. The ambiance and service were fine, but honestly, I do not know how you can mess up Americanized Chinese food. We tried the Chicken Lo Mien-which had a nice assortment of vegetables, but was very bland. The sushi we had was also sub-par and not fresh. One of our rolls that we ordered was the shrimp tempura roll, and the shrimp tempura was soggy, not crispy, and the shrimp had an unusual rubbery texture. The portion sizes are pretty decent, but it’s unfortunate, because what good is it to have a lot of something when you don’t want to eat it?

avoid like the plague!!! Seriously, how does a place with such AWFUL food and sooo many terrible reviews still exist? My story really does not matter. If you are Unilocaling this place and considering going, DON’T If you are checking in before you order, JUSTWALKAWAY If you already ordered and wonder what other people thought, GETUPANDLEAVE You would end up being pissed off that you paid for such crap anyway, so why even put yourself through that.

Outstanding service, very helpful and knowledgable about the menu. We brought our own wine and before i could sit down there was an ice bucket out and the server was corking it and taking care of it!!! There is nothing to complain about when it comes to food, we got the edimame and it wasn’t too salty. The endless sushi we enjoyed was always made well and flowed well. I highly recommend the Godzilla roll, amazing!!! Ask for Nan, amazingly helpful and polite and always smiling!

We went to Nan’s due to the Groupon deal. Though we had a Groupon, we also ordered off the limited menu. Having been to Japan, sushi is something that I can be picky about. I expect fresh fish. I also expect a roll to be good if they are going to spend the time making it — most people in Japan don’t eat rolls though! Honestly the food was just okay. Not memorable and many places nearby that are a better deal. I wasn’t impressed that the«Groupon» menu choices changes from table to table. It was fine because this was close to a friends house that we were visiting afterward and also because it was BYOB. I’d try other places first though.

This place gets a bad rap! I feel bad for Nan’s! I bought a Living Social Deal for $ 10 and then we got $ 25 towards our dinner. My friend and I went for lunch on Saturday and were a bit freaked out when we were the only table in the whole restaurant. How could a BYOB Sushi place have no customers at all during peak lunch time on a Saturday? Seemed odd and scared me thoroughly combined with the low Unilocal ratings. It’s honestly not that bad though. Prices are average and service was very friendly and quick. The rolls were definitely not the best I had but nothing was incredibly wrong with them either. The rice was a bit overcooked and not the neatest presentation I’ve ever seen. I had a shitake roll which they put a little soy sauce and it was good. I also tried the Chicago Roll which was enjoyable. My friend said her rolls were both decent, not amazing but not bad. We steered clear of the Chinese food based on the poor reviews. I saw honey chicken on the menu which is one of my favorite foods so it was rough not ordering it… but my friend said No! No! Remember the Chinese food reviews! So I stuck with the sushi. Strange thing is the workers were Korean, which makes me think the owners must be Korean… yet I saw no Korean dishes on the menu. Maybe they should switch gears a tad and replace the Chinese food with Korean! Give something new a whirl. The restaurant is cute and has some nice double booth tables in the front windows great for people watching. If I lived in the area, I wouldn’t mind coming more often with some wine or beers as it’s a friendly little place.

I see that there are a great deal of negative comments on this place… So, I’m going to step outside of the norm and say this place was okay. I give it three out of five stars and here’s why! 1) I ordered the Egg Foo young, and Fried rice for guests at my house and they liked it. I tried it and it reminded me of the Chinese food that I ate as a kid. The fried rice was great, and very good egg foo young! I’ve eaten fried rice at so many places and it just seemed like it was deep fried with a box of salt. But, this fried rice had flavor, and good texture like it was freshly made. 2) Because I ordered through and I had no clue how shabby the actual place looked I ordered the Wasabi Tuna and it was decent. I love sushi, so I can’t say it was 5 star sushi, but it was decent. 3) The delivery was quick and reasonably priced. This isn’t a five star place by any means, but I would never give it two stars!

Dinner was a serious let down tonight. I ordered from Nan’s without consulting Unilocal first. Bad, bad idea. I’m sorry I strayed Unilocal and trusted the slightly more positive grubhub reviews of this place. Never again. The good– quick delivery and the chicken wings, hence the two stars. The bad– everything else. Sesame chicken was mush and the sauce was so cold it was still congealed upon arrival. Given the quick delivery it makes me think this was just warmed up in a microwave. Sad. I tossed it.

There are only 2 restaurants that my boyfriend has banned us from ever returning to or ordering from again — Nan’s is one of them. And I’m in agreement on this. I live just a few blocks from the restaurant, and we had ordered here several times for various noodle dishes(OK), orange chicken(good!), chicken curry(BAD. bad.), sushi(eh, kind of bad), etc. It was a seemingly good, close option. Until, one night we ordered and boyfriend discovered a huge black house fly in his noodles, of course, it was one of the last bites of the meal, causing a flash of horror, as we wondered if we had both eaten more flies before discovering this one. That was the start of the ban. Since then, I have been paying more attention to the restaurant, as I pass by it nearly everyday on the way to/from the train for work. On multiple occasions, I’ve seen the cook(or one of them) in full getup — hat, apron, clearly the cook — standing outside the kitchen door, smoking. If Nan’s hadn’t already been banned, I would have initiated it right then. I hate smoking as it is, and it’s even more disgusting to see the cook that prepares your food smoking right outside the kitchen door, which he probably does between orders. Their delivery people also hang out on the sidewalk outside the restaurant all the time, separate doors are open to the kitchen, restaurant, take-out counter(letting bugs fly right in there!). It’s gross. It’s unprofessional. It’s probably unsanitary. And it looks TERRIBLE for your business when your employees, and COOKS are hanging outside on the sidewalk, often smoking. *Note to manager — address this unsightly problem asap, it’s definitely hurting your image.
