Holy Sushi! Hands down one of the best sushi maki roll places in Lincoln park! Very competitive pricing and portions are on point! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone that loves sushi in a relaxed cost friendly environment!

Green salad was amazing. Great ingredients. Great salad. Edamame was microwaved, basically could have bring your own edamame. Sushi all came on one plate, strange because we ordered different things. Server– non existent. Empty restaurant and we couldn’t get water refills. Besides salads, everything else was bad. Very bad.

OMG such amazing sushi! This place is the real deal — Chef/Owner Bat is always there, and always recognizes you. Their main waiter(we’ve never been there and not had him, but I can’t recall his name — shame on me!) is great — he’s super personable and quick. Our absolute favorite roll is the No Name — not very descriptive(haha) but this thing is amazing. Seriously. So. Good. You should also get the Sushi Roses as an appetizer — beautiful, and so much fresh Sashimi! Their menu us huge, so regardless of your preference, you’ll be able to find something that suits you! It’s also BYOB, which is always nice! Def check this place out! It’s a hidden gem of Lincoln Park :-)

This is, hands down, my favorite sushi place in the city. They have amazing veggie rolls, as well as tasty salad and miso soup, and it’s BYOB. The vegetarian rolls are not your typical avocado or cucumber. They are stuffed full of goodness and both beautifully crafted and delicious. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff is excellent: both friendly and efficient.

Do not come here. Went with family the other night and now 3 of us are home sick with food poisoning most likely from the quality of the raw fish. Was quite disappointed as I heard this was a neat place to check out. Would vote 0 stars if I could.

Your typical cute Lincoln Park sushi bar. The restaurant itself has maybe 10 – 12 tables so if it’s busy you may find yourself going elsewhere if you come during a busy dinner time. For rolls, we got a Geisha, sexy and spicy tuna roll. The sexy roll was definitely the least sushi like sushi roll I’d had, as it was wrapped in cucumber, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. The other two rolls were also good, and the sashimi we ordered(Unagi and tuna) were HUGE pieces. By huge I mean they were bigger than the guilt trips my mother bestows upon me whenever I visit her. Service was fast and friendly, atmosphere is inviting. Would definitely go back!

I didn’t really like this place. The first roll was sloppily made and hard to eat. It all keep falling apart. The sexy roll needed vinegar and was bad. The dragon roll was fishy and bad tasting. Will continue to go to the place down the street.

I was so hungry in Chicago and I used Unilocal to find a sushi place. I picked this place because it has good reviews. The place is small and cute. The chef welcomed us right away. The food is good but I think the guy(waiter) is a bit slow to do stuff. I wish he speaks louder. By the way, we got free salad because we checked in on Unilocal. Overall, this place is good for sushi.

I was past that point of hunger and onto delusion, and craving sushi IN chicago(a Floridian)…and so happy I stumbled here. Fresh fish, nice eclectic menu and relaxing low key spot. Plan to come back and use the BYOB

Per a recommendation, I went to Sushi Mon to sample one or two sushi rolls from their menu. It’s a small shop, which is not a problem. If you are the type who likes to go to small spots with large parties, I highly recommed getting there as soon as the doors open. On to the sushi. I ordered spicy shrimp and crunchy shrimp. Both were good and fresh. I will have to go back to try some other maki rolls and items from their menu. For a first pass, I’ll say that it was a good choice for a quick bite. Maybe on another visit, I’ll up my rating.

Clark St has so many choices for food, but if you’re in the mood for a cozy place for sushi with a friend or two, then consider Sushi Mon. It’s extremely tiny, but good attention has been paid to the rolls. The menu doesn’t overextend the staff, and everything is to the point. I ordered Maki Plate E which came with spicy tuna, spicy shrimp tempura, and a California roll. This came with a bowl of miso soup, which is standard but nothing outstanding. Just something to get you settled into your meal and ready to accept the rolls to come. I came here on a Friday night with my wife, and we didn’t wait more than 5 minutes I believe. Water and starters came out relatively fast, but it took some time for the rolls to come along with the chirashi bowl that my wife ordered. Maybe 20 minutes? Once we received our main entrees, we were delighted at the taste of our selections. Prices are reasonable considering the area, and selection is limited to what seems this establishment is trying to hone in on without stretching themselves thin. I’ll certainly have to try this place again.

It get all the stars because it has a Charishi bowl of dreams. I asked the waiter to make sure it didn’t contain eel or octopus and my wish was granted. I had a bowl full of delicious raw fish over sushi rice it was DELICIOUS! It was amazing wonderful and I ate it all. My husband was really surprised how much fish I put down into my mouth and belly. I went to bed feeling really good that night. I will return to Sushi Mon. Okay so the place is cozy. But it’s worth the wait and I believe it is BYOB.

There’s tons of little local spots up and down this street. This joint has about 6 tables(very quaint) and I will say it delivers a variety. Did some sushi on rice & was impressed by the cuts made by sushi chef.

Relatively decent place for sushi in the Lincoln Park area. I wanted to try a different sushi place, but after having Toro, nothing really compares. The sushi here was decent but nothing outstanding and the portion sizes are what you’d expect from a typical sushi place. My friend ordered the udon which she said was fine but it came out in a deep plate rather than a bowl which was a little odd and made it difficult for her to drink the soup. The prices were reasonable and the service was fine(we were the only ones there at the time).

Love this place and the guys that own/run it. I’m a maki roll girl and usually switch between the California Roll, or Spicy Scallop or Salmon. Lately I discovered the Hawaiian Roll. They have a welcoming atmosphere. They know us and welcome us. Either dinning in or picking up, they know what we like and always carry on a conversation. It is a more laid back atmosphere than other sushi joints in the area and much easier to get in to. The sushi is high quality and exactly what we are looking for. We are so lucky to have this place right down the street. Seriously, if we move, not sure what we would do for our sushi nights.

I went here after a trip to Molly’s. The place is really small, so if you go during peak hours, you might have to wait a little bit. I went at an odd time so there were tables open for me and my boyfriend. The tables were really close. Another couple seemed to be on their first date and I could hear everything. I ordered our sushi. The sushi is one of the better sushis I’ve tasted. It was fresh, colorful, and tasty. I left on a really full stomach because, as usual. I was eating with my eyes. It looked so good! The service was alright. I was sitting in a corner and it wasn’t in the waiter’s line of view. I waited for awhile for the sushi and for the check. Although, to give them some benefit do the doubt, people did start filtering in so they were getting pretty busy.

In life we come across places that end up having symbolic value in your life. I would say sushi Mon is that place for me. I had my first sushi in the United States at this place and it has set standard as I will always compare my sushi experiences to this one! First of all the sushi here is freshly prepared in front of you. The fish used to make sushi is picked personally from the market by the owner. The chef is very proud to keep sushi in its authentic form and believes in not using too much sauces or condiments. I truly respect that because there are different forms of sushi available now and each has a taste of its own and is tailored to suit different taste buds. However I feel that this place serves as a gold standard on what authentic sushi is supposed to be. We usually get the evolution roll. Complimentary salad and miso is served because the owner Bat has known by best friend for almost 7 years. So if you live in Chicago and are a sushi fan, I highly recommend visiting this place! I always look forward to visiting Sushi Mon especially in the cold winter evenings!

Overall, the sushi in Chicago has been rather underwhelming. Chicago does a lot of foods exceptionally well, but sushi isn’t one of them. Rolls tend to be the theme at most of these places in town, and I still don’t know what the fascination with all these nasty add-ons is? In the end of the day, most places use weird ingredients to mask marginal quality, cheap fish. Still, I’m a huge fan of sushi and needed a regular go-to place in town since I’m stuck here. I stumbled upon Sushi Mon a year ago because Toro up the street was filled. Luckily, I gave Sushi Mon a shot. It has become my go-to place for inexpensive sushi. I tend not to venture off from the standards — salmon, maguro, and hamachi, for example. You just never know what you’d get. Sushi Mon has delivered every time I’ve visited. My choices have always been really fresh. I sometimes get a maki combination, but nigiri is always part of my order. Service during my two or three dine-in experiences has been very good. I usually order online, and my food is always done on-time. The sushi chefs and crew are super nice and always have made sure that I was happy with everything, from the sushi to the ease of ordering online. Don’t expect anything extraordinary here, but do expect reasonably priced sushi that’s actually pretty good! Plus for all you BYOB fans, this is your place!

Note: BYOB The sushi was good, not top quality. I think it was a bit pricey, but maybe my view of sushi prices is skewed coming from Copenhagen. The place was nice, if a bit bare, but that didn’t take away from the relaxed atmosphere. The waiter and waitress seemed slightly angry at me and my friend, I never figured out why but it did take my experience of the place down a notch. I will try and find a different sushi place next time I’m in Chicago, but in a pinch would have no problem dining here again.

Overall: Nice casual sushi restaurant. Not too fancy, not too shady. Good for a date or even for takeout. The good: Small intimate setting but we were seated right away. Friendly service that was fast. Huge menu. Reasonable prices. The bad: The quality of the sushi was a bit under my expectations. It was okay, but I’ve definitely had better sushi. Also, the music selection was pretty awful. Top 40, not what I want to hear with sushi anyway. Atmosphere: 8⁄10 Service: 8⁄10 Food: 7⁄10
