Stew chicken was a bit salty but still good. Glad I found doubles in Chicago. Macaroni pie was delicious, can’t wait to try more.

The first time I went, I was blown away. The second time I went, I was addicted to the food. The third time I went, it was because going somewhere else would have resulted in me being severely disappointed that I didn’t come here. I have had chicken roti, curry shrimp, grilled shrimp, jerk chicken, curry chicken, peas and rice, cabbage, pholourie, ginger beer, and sorrel. All of it was authentic, as I’ve had Trinidadian food before. For food this good, I don’t mind going up to Rogers Park at all.

I am giving 4 stars based on the excellent courtesy of the staff. I am all in favor of supporting small business. The restaurant is a storefront located on the south east side of Howard street, slightly east of Ridge Avenue. 1. The restaurant inside was very clean(do not judge from the outside or neighboring businesses) 2. There is only street meter parking. 3. You need to call ahead when you know you are going. Also a good idea to know what you might order. This being a small business not all menu items will be available. Also, the business hours published do not match the hours of operation. Make sure they are open before you head out. 4. If you are from Trinidad or recently been to Trinidad, this is not authentic Trinidadian cuisine. Rather it appears to be a fusion of soul, Jamaican, and some aspects of Trinidadian. So if you are a picky Trinidadian(Like most of my relatives especially the Indian ones) and you are super picky about your spices, then you may deem this to be closer to Jamaican style spin on «Trini«cuisine. 5. One of things I wish I had asked is if they use Adobo type spices or seasonings because those do contain MSG and I had a dinner guest who is MSG and sodium sensitive. 6. The Salad appears to be whiter basic iceberg lettuce. I wish it was a mixture of other lettuce varieties, even a butter lettuce would have been an improvement. For a fairly priced lunch its a better alternative than fast food.

After reading the warnings from other people on here that this place isn’t always open when their hours say they should be… I called first before coming for lunch. I’m glad I did, because even though the website said they’d be open at 11am, they said on the phone that they wouldn’t have food ready till 1 or 1:30. I guess this place is a little too authentic :) If you are willing to deal with their inconsistent hours, it’s worth it. The roti is spot-on phenomenal. I’ve been to Trinidad. I had roti from a handful of respected shops and carts around Port of Spain. The roti that I had here at Taste of Trinidad in Chicago is as good as any. I had the goat roti; I’m sure the chicken or beef would also be good. One thing to know about eating Trinidadian roti is that the cooks tend to not de-bone the meat. This makes eating this form of wrap a little more complicated. You wouldn’t want bones in a burrito, would you? I’m not sure why they don’t like to take the bones out, but this is the case both in Trinidad and at this restaurant. I still need to come back on a weekend to try their doubles. And if they do doubles right it’ll make living through Chicago winter a little bit better.

We came here on a super hot day in the summer. Unfortunately on that day they did not have the AC on. I’m not even sure if this restaurant has AC! But we came here for the food which did not disappoint. We ordered the plantains, ox tail curry, goat curry and a hibiscus drink to quench our thirst and cool us down. I really enjoyed the drink and the ox tail. I am not a fan of goat meat but my friends really like the goat curry. We also ordered a potato roti as an appetizer. It was delicious as well. Service was friendly. I’m glad we came!

SOOOOGOOOOOOD! Much better than the one in Bronzeville! Roti wraps melted in your mouth! The doubles needs to be hotter not sweeter but overall — next best thing to moms cooking or back in Trini!

This review is regarding their operations and not food. I have attempted to visit this establishment twice, on separate occasions, when their website, FB page and Unilocal claimed that it was open but it was closed. PLEASEUPDATEALLMEANSOFCOMMUNICATION regarding business of operation. A flyer on your door does little or nothing to notify new or existing patrons. Especially consider setting up a voicemail.

I had the curry chicken roti with the in-house habanero sauce fabulous I do warn you though be careful with the habanero sauce it does have some kick but if you can get past the heat the flavor is spot on

Delicious, with all the right spices roti… yum, currie chicken… delicious and they don’t skimp on the portions. Island hospitality is complimentary :) Glad it’s been added to the Rogers Park area, I wish them nothing but huge success!

I have been hearing of this new restaurant for quite some time but just today got a chance to try it out. Let me tell you, I did myself a HUGE favor making my way to the place. The staff are extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and welcoming. The food was out minutes after we ordered! Everyone of my friends and I enjoyed our plates… I had to tear myself away from my channa and aloo roti topped with in-house hot sauce. The calypso music playing made the meal even sweeter. With the clean and inviting ambiance, Taste of Trinidad is a restaurant that cannot be surpassed. It’s wonderful to see this new gem add to the wonder of the city of Chicago! If you are in the area, I see no better place to eat than right here. Big up to all the owners and workers of the place! –Sydney

After finding out that our initial choice for Sunday lunch is still close at 12:30 pm, we wandered around Rogers Park to find a replacement. We started off as the first guests at the restaurant and though there were a couple more patrons that came in, she has always checked on us if we needed anything. Our server was attentive and described the dishes pretty well for us that have never had Trinidadian food. We had the pholourie(fried dough) which came with a tamarind and mango sauce-it was amazing! This will be ordered the next time we visit. Afterwards we ordered the curry goat and chicken roti and both were excellent. Will definitely be part of our restaurant rotation!

I had the curry goat and really enjoyed it. You get a lot for your money. Wanted to try the jerk chicken but it had another 45minutes to cook. A good option if you’re looking for a Caribbean meal in the north suburbs.

A friend and I went here for dinner, and we tried the pholourie(on the house), jerk chicken roti, and goat curry. We were offered the hot sauce on the side, and it was extremely spicy. Overall the food was good. Service was friendly but inattentive; we were the only two people eating in the restaurant, and yet we still had to ask for water and extra napkins several times. The interior is simple, clean, and brightly colored. Street parking is available.

I was walking by Taste with some extra time when their lunch special caught my eye– $ 5 for a plate of jerk or stewed chicken, plantains, beans, rice, and cabbage. Sounded like a deal to me, and I’m happy to report that the food was fabulous. The portions are relatively small– I was full by meal’s end, but had I been really hungry to start I don’t think it would have been enough. For the price, variety, and taste though it was definitely worth it!

A new neighborhood restaurant that offers great food at reasonable prices. I had the jerk chicken dinner and it was incredible. Very juicy, if a little greasy, and wonderful spice. The plantains were caramelized to perfection and the cabbage was sweet. I will be going back soon.
