I was so excited to see Marshalls and TJMaxx as I walked to lunch on a recent visit to Chicago. I wasn’t interested in most of the stores on/near Magnificent Mile. I do most of my shopping at discount stores. I spent quite a bit of time in the store, but found nothing to buy. And I am the girl that usually leaves the store with at least one thing even if she is browsing and not intending to spend any money. I thought that it was well organized for the most part, however.

This TJ Maxx is Very clean and organized! I was expecting to see a bunch of cluttered and disorganized shelves and racks. That was not the case here. Kudos to the staff for having such a wonderful store. If all the other branches were like this specific location in Chicago, then we would be regulars at the other branches. My wife and I found what we needed in a couple of minutes. Made the mistake of browsing a bit longer. Ended up buying more stuff at bargain prices. If you are shopping in the vicinity of the Magnificent Mile, then make sure you search for this TJ Maxx store. It has a Michigan Ave. address, but is actually located at the back of one of the buildings on the second floor.

As a former TJ Maxx supervisor, I have a keen understanding of how this store should be ran. This visit was on a non-peak hour week day so there is no excuse for the lack of energy put forth by the associates. Not only was the customer service sub par, the racks were extremely messy, clothes were strung all over the floors, and hangers were jutting out of all different kinds of spaces. It felt like I was going through an obstacle course just trying to find pants. What I dont understand is if there was nothing but time on the associates hands, why were they not recovering their specified zones? Its bad enough that TJ Maxx purposefully unorganizes the merchandise on the racks to make customers«treasure hunt» for their products in hopes that they will find unexpected, additional purchases. But when product is all over the floors and slung over the racks, it does nothing but anger customers who truly have come to search for one thing. Like me. I came to purchase a pair of dress pants. The men’s section at this location is laughable. The TJ Maxx in the loop is twice as big and more organized. I will be spending my time and coins there in the future.

I always hear such great things about TJ Maxx and every time I go into one I am disappointed. This one was no different. My biggest issue is the size of the stores — its really small. And it seems like they’re all like this, no? I don’t know why you’d bother with this store when there is a Marshalls in the same building and its like 4x the size.

Nice new clean and organized! Looks like you could actually find something in here unlike some of the other TJ’s in town. A good stop right off the mile.

Another entrant on the discount designer shopping scene, this TJ Maxx has some fairly stiff competition nearby in the form of stalwart Nordstrom Rack and relative newcomer Neiman Marcus Last Call just up the street. The HomeGoods that formerly occupied the TJ Maxx space still holds a place in my heart, but I had been eager to check out TJ Maxx, ever since I learned that it would be a schmancy one featuring a Runway section. I decided to stop in after the gym on Sunday morning — a relatively balmy 29 degrees after a string of sub-zero January days. The store was not at all crowded, possibly due to the spate of games on that day. I did take a look through the Runway section and noted that the goods were indeed impressive — at least impressively priced, with a fur-lined Max Mara trench clocking in at around $ 1,270(on clearance, of course). Since there was nothing I couldn’t live without, I decided to scope out more practical wares. I wound up with a pair of fitness gloves which I’d been looking for at Sports Authority and Lucy and just managed to stumble upon here. While this store does not offer housewares on the same scale as HomeGoods(snif!) I did manage to find a reed diffuser set. On a slightly more offbeat note, I even managed to score a copy of Neil Patrick Harris’ newly-released memoir: «Choose Your Own Autobiography» for the low-low price of $ 10, compared to the usual $ 25 for a hardbound book. The handbag section looked promising, and there is a Zac Posen clutch that I might have bought had the clasp not been a bit wonky. Shoes are a bit hit or miss, but it could have been an off day. It seems like the staff care about the customers’ experience and was doing everything they could to keep the store organized. There is some overlap in merchandise between this TJ Maxx and Marshalls on the lower level, which is to be expected as these companies are under the same corporate parent. Though I still mourn the demise of HomeGoods at this location, I am looking forward to stopping by TJ Maxx next time I’m in search of some bargains.

Kind of brand-new location for TJ Maxx! I didn’t expect to see Marshalls on the bottom floor, which makes it easy for price comparison even though they’re the same company. Layout was clear and defined. Bright lights. I didn’t shop in every section, but there was a good variety.

As a fan of TJ Maxx, I was happy when I heard this store opened. This newly opened store is about a block west of Michigan Avenue. The store is located on the second floor — Marshall’s is on the first floor(believe it or not). The layout is very well planned — signs are hanging from the ceilings(just like other TJ Maxx’s stores). I noticed they had used different flooring material than the other stores. I don’t know if they are trying to make this a flagship store. Just like any other TJ Maxx and Marshall’s, it’s a hit or miss. I did found couple great shirts at a great price. Even though, there were a lot of shoppers, the store was clean and tidy. Overall, I felt prices were reasonable for the product. After scoring your finds, don’t be afraid of the long check out lines. The check out agents are quick and friendly(at least my agent was)… I would recommend TJ Maxx and will return. I enjoy a great bargain.
