I was curious to try some middle eastern food while in the area so decided to check this place out. I like Beef Shawarmas usually at such restaurants so naturally I went for it. I felt that it had an okay taste but nothing special or out of ordinary. Have had it better elsewhere. Their Chicken Shawarma was decent. I liked its taste. However, I didn’t like that their sandwiches came as a roll/wrap instead of Pita sandwich. Falafel were good in taste. I liked them and the Baba Ghanouj was decent. Service was good. Good menu variety. 2.5 stars.

Solid med food for a reasonable price. Zad is located right next to another med restaurant that I have yet to try, but this place was pretty good. Clean, friendly and fast service, and quality food. Atmosphere wasn’t bad either. Got the chicken and steak kabob platter and left full and happy. Overall a great meal with no real complaints. Atmosphere: 8⁄10 Service: 8⁄10 Food: 7.5÷10

Among the best hummus in Chicago is being hand made at Zad. Talk about a multiple mouthgasm? OOOHWEE. A buddy was smart enough to pick up a bottle of 2010 Menage a Trois Cabernet and it pairs nicely with everything including the pleasant Tefaya couscous with caramelized onions, raisins and chick peas. This was the standout entrée and I confess tastes just as good later after a few days in my tiny, almost pocket-sized fridge. I might would punch you in the eye also for another cup of the rich, almost bisque-like red lentil soup with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. The standard eggplant entrée is also quite tasty and plentiful. Way to go, Zad! Going back if it’s meant.

Stopped in here on a Saturday night for a random early dinner. The place was pretty packed when we arrived(6:30ish), and only continued to get busier & busier, which I always take as a good sign! I had the chicken shawarma, and I really liked it. The chicken was the kind that was cooked on a spit, not chunks of chicken breast but rather the«cut off the spit» type of chicken, which makes it a little dry but I personally like that, along with the more charred flavor. The put a yogurt sauce on it to kill some of the dryness as well. The rice was really good, and it came with a heap of vegetables. I was so stuffed from the big hummus appetizer(we actually had the small size, and it was still big) that I took most of my entrée home for lunch the next day, and it was just as good. I can’t believe the prices, dinner for 2, including the appetizer, was under $ 30. Not shabby at all. Service was super friendly & fast, I’d definitely come back!
