This is an awesome place to go! Don’t get it confused with it’s evil twin across town, though. There’s always fresh veggies, fully stocked bins of food, and great service! I personally prefer to pile the garlic on my dish right before they cook it — super delicious.

The food is good, the atmosphere is a little strange/sad, so I always get mine to go. There’s a really strange vibe in there, everyone eyeing each other in line, sort of a «hey, at least we’re all gluttons together, right?» I knocked off two stars because of the atmosphere, and the fact that on a few occasions I’ve returned home to find that in the process of cooking the stir fry, other people’s ingredients have ended up in my bowl, which is not cool. Not adding any meat to my bowl then finding sausage in there is pretty off-putting.

Came down to Chico for business from Sacramento and decided to try this place out. I was surprised to see young looking white college kids running the place, but don’t let them fool you— this was the best Mongolian BBQ I’ve ever had! Usually the meat at other places tastes old, but not this place. The chicken tasted like it should, and the beef tasted like beef. Yummy! Can’t wait to come back!

We love hulas! my wife and I do not eat meat, so we appreciate that the cooks clean off the grill upon request. The service is generally good and quick. It would be better if a wider array of veggies, noodles and soups were offered. It’s disappointing when we go in and the soup of the day is not vegetarian. All in all, it’s a great restaurant.

Ewww. Yucky. The waitresses and every person working there were sooo nice. But the food… I don’t understand why so many people like it. The rice was cold and hard. The wontons and egg rolls were also cold, as well as greasy. The meat choices are weird, creepy, freeze dried little flaps(my eight year old sons description). The noodles are fat and slimy like worms. It was just super gross. I’m sorry.

Pretty mediocre Chinese BBQ. Being a monopoly for your only place to go in town seems to be why it’s so popular. Food kinda depends on what you make it as you put your dish together. The sides and soups leave something to be desired. My friends really hyped up this place and I was let down. Overall it’s just not that great. I wish there was a more proper Hawaiian or Chinese BBQ place in town

Grab two bowls because you’re gonna want to pack in the bowl you end up eating with. Their policy only allows you a take home box if you eat one bowl worth of food, your next bowl will simply be dumped into the trash which I find to be a dispicable policy but I understand they don’t want people filling a bowl to take home for later. How much food is actually wasted here I don’t know but I have had friends who end up wasting bowls to prove a point to everyone but the manager. This place has apparently been a Chico staple for a looooooong time and it’s good food at very good prices. Make sure you use a lot of oil or sauce because the food tends to lose a lot of moisture if you don’t.

Overpriced and meat is just about the lowest quality. It is frozen meat and tough to chew. Lots of food for your buck but I was sick to my stomach 3 days after eating at hulas. I definitely won’t be going back.

I absolutely love going here! I love the options, and the fact that no matter how many times I’ve been there, it’s always a little different. Staff have always been very pleasant and quick.

The original! It’s pretty hard to go wrong when you’re making your own recipe. The noodles a Hula’s are something special. I have always wondered where they get them. I’ve had plenty of the same types of BBQ restaurant noodles and they’re never the same as Hula’s. The servers are generally pretty nice and the cooks/stick-guys are pleasant. Not a whole lot of talking from the staff, but that can be really nice when you wanna just hang with friends or have a nice casual date night. My husband and I ALWAYS leave with at least one, if not two, meals for later and that’s after eating at the restaurant. As far as price goes, this is probably one of the better deals in town for your money’s worth. The only problems are: a) if you get a real dick in front of you, who slathers on hot sauce or something nasty(tons of cilantro, etc.) it kinda sucks. It’s inevitable, you get your bowl just right, and some douche comes up in front of you and puts 50 buckets of hot sauce, oyster sauce, and all the strongest/craziest flavors on his bowl to taint your awesomeness. Be prepared as it’s highly likely you WILL be the recipient of some of that flavor. It’s expected at a joint like this, though. Just prepare your tastebuds. b) though the food is yummy as can be, it’s VERY heavy and somehow ALWAYS full of crazy amounts of oil. You’ll notice it in your leftovers when about 2 inches of the bottom of the to-go box is pure oil. It tends to leave me with that brick-in-stomach feeling. Maybe it’s the tasty noodles? Either way, the taste is worth the minor discomfort. Easy fixes: eat less, ask the stick peeps to clean the grill, and if that’s not an option, tell el-douche to get behind everyone else or ease up on the hotness.

5 stars for being the best Mongolian BBQ bowl I’ve ever had. Very very tasty! I like that they had sauce recipes at their sauce counter. The mild worked out great!

Ya know? We eat at this location every time. For many many years we’ve made the drive from corning just to come. I live here now and my kids are grown. They come with their friends. I’ve seen many young people come and go an cant remember any of them being rude. One familiar face in the past few years… Steve. Everyone is happy working under him. And like an excellent manager, I’ve seen him come out and help his crew on numerous visits here. You’re awesome Steve. Thank you for managing a friendly team that makes our experiences great ones. It keeps us coming back

I have always loved this place. The food and the sauces were clean and fresh. The problem was the grill. It was literally caked with built up food and ??. The lower«catch» trey under the grill was LOADED with disgarded food. As a result it was hard find the food appetizing. We left our«leftovers after not finishing our meals.

We have been Hulas faithfuls for a long time… especially this location. Going to celebrate yet another birthday of one of our 4 children… I am trying to be more modest in my consumption and decide i don’t want to get a bowl, I will eat the soup, rice and maybe take a bite of my husband’s if i feel like it… my husband used the«S» word which. apparently isn’t allowed. We never leave there without spending at least 150. They didn’t want to hear it, said it wasn’t allowed so we left and our 5 others with us that had their bowls filled and ready to cook, walked out. What a waste… what terrible customer service!

I hate to give this place only 3 stars but having a monopoly shouldn’t get you better reviews. Hulas is good, but not great. There are just no other Chinese/Mongolian BBQ joints around. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food quality is good. I think it’s the chefs that cause the 3 star review. Thy don’t clean the cook top enough and I think it’s too small. You should try this place out if you’re new or experienced to Chinese/Mongolian BBQ. Just don’t have high expectations. Parking is easy peasy.

Good food, just know that if you have a peanut allergy DONOT eat here. The lunch and dinner prices differ greatly. But the Mongolian BBQ is good but the appetizers are kinda leave something to be desired. Otherwise good date night place to eat.

Nice restaurant and the produce is fresh. I never make the sauce the same. Just add tons of soy sauce, garlic, ginger and fire oil.

Dear Hulas: J’adore! I’ve loved you for many years like, a really long time. I should have told you sooner but I couldn’t muster up the courage until I had a few beers. Now that I’m spilling my guts about my obsession with your super bar selection full of fresh meats, veggies, noodles, spices, and tasty oils I might as well mention that I wish I would like to visit you every single day. Ok, maybe that’s a bit stalkerish so, instead, I’ll say… twice a week. I mean, I don’t want to creep you out. Its bizarre how you haven’t changed one single thing(interior wise) in soooo many years and still I find you to be one of the most perfect places to spend an evening, noshing, filling up mah belleh. Yeah, your in my top 3 yummy spots in Chico. You’ve got the magic touch, yup yup, keep it up! Sincerely, Your long time addicted customer… MP
