I don’t get how this place has 3 stars, I stopped by on our way back from the beach, at first I didn’t wanted to come in but I though we are already here so we came in, I saw the sign outside for $ 9 so I said ok, first it was completely empty on a Sunday afternoon ! so I said to myself«red flag» but I said well probably it is not so good but for the price I cannot complain, the chow mein was flavorless, many trays were almost empty, I said well they don’t have much business, sushi was not good, not many desserts basically only cookies, so not good at all, not even a good salad to make, when we left they charged me $ 56, for my husband and my 2 kids, to me that was crazy, since I have paid about $ 75 for mi kids and my husband at other places with way better food and even live music, I was so mad, but it was my fault for not making sure of how much it was at the beginning, so my review is for the people to be aware of how expensive it is for flavorless food, to my I wouldn’t even pay the $ 9 on a weekday, so you can have an idea on how bad the food is.

DON’T Waste your money!!! Came here after it reopened as Hong Buffet and didn’t have any complaints however this time food was horrid & cold by the time you get back to the table. Lunch was $ 17 which to me is overpriced for cold buffet food. Not only that I am not feeling well after eating there. Won’t be returning EVER. Waitress was asking my mom what she wanted to drink & after my mom asked her if they had something specific she just turned around & walked away. To go talk to someone else. That was kind of rude!

The buffet food was cold. The food looked gross and they weren’t keeping the dishes full. The Mongolian Grill was descent, but I had to find an employee to get the chef to come out. I won’t be going back

The. food was not that good. A little dry for my taste. The dinner was a bit over priced for what you get. Overall it’s ok, I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m not coming back here. Had better…

We very much enjoy this place. It has Mongolian BBQ and sushi and sea for as well as a verity of buffet items and desserts.

The food was okay, but the tea eggs and egg custards are absolutely to die for! The custards are soft, light, and fluffy, with a tiny hint of vanilla. The tea eggs look awful and unappealing at first, but when you take the egg out, you are greeted with heaven in a nutshell.

I’m so conflicted… this place definitely has its pros and its cons. I came for dinner on a Friday night, $ 16.96/ person, definitely NOT worth it, but I could see how this place is worth it for lunch on a weekday for $ 8.96/ person. They have sashimi and it was pretty fresh. They also have crab legs, so that was nice! For their hot foods it was typical Chinese food and french fries, but the hot foods didn’t look super appetizing. I ended up at the Mongolian BBQ station most of the whole time. This is one of the few Mongolian BBQs that has lamb, so big plus! They let you choose your own sauces, but lowkey wished they would do it for me because I would try too hard each time and mess it up! They do have the Taiwanese pork buns(gua bao), but it was gross. On the weekend nights, they offer special dishes, such as steak or lamb chops, but it’s not out on the buffet, you have to order it from your server! I had a lamb chop and it wasn’t great… it was overcooked and just lacked flavor… They have a couple dessert options, but after opening the ice cream box, I was horrified and decided it would be better for my health not to have it. I saw the green tea egg tarts but didn’t snatch one quick enough! Overall, I’d probably come back on a weekday for lunch to get some of that ayce Mongolian BBQ, but other than that… you can count me out.

I came here with my family after hearing very good reviews about it. Plus, it’s only $ 8.98 for a weekday lunch, so I figured that it wouldn’t hurt to stop by and try it out. Yikes. Most of the sushi rolls on offer are variations of the California Roll. However, the salmon, the tuna, and basically every fish you can imagine that goes on the rolls obviously wasn’t fresh. I can even say that the salmon tasted rancid. I actually chose to stick to just boring ol’ california roll. The clams were sandy and underseasoned. Most of the hot entrees were underseasoned as well. I still don’t understand how any Chinese establishment can mess up chicken wings and cream cheese wontons but Hong Buffet managed to do so. They also had this baked krab dish that just tasted like cheese and imitation crab. Basically, an underseasoned and lazy version of seafood dynamite that even a high school cafeteria would be embarrassed to serve. The only saving grace for Hong Buffet is its dim sum offering, which I was pleasantly surprised by. Outside of the turnip cake, which was way over cooked(and underseasoned, surprise surprise!), all the offerings were very tasty. The har gow in particular tasted like something straight from a dimsum place. Same with the siu mai. I was also very happy with the gua bao, the Taiwanese bun with pork belly, peanuts, pickled veggies, and peanut. It was very yummy and I had seconds(and thirds and maybe even fourths). I didn’t have a chance to try the Mongolian grill but I have to say, for $ 8.98, Hong Buffet isn’t too bad of a choice. It’s all you can eat for the price of a single dish! So despite the 2 star rating, I’d still hop on by and eat here again. I might just needt o stick to the dim sum but hey, it’s still a pretty good deal!

Holy crap How is this place a three star? The worst taste of food ever. Literally the plates were dirty. Food smelled stinky. And no fresh food. Oh I can tell wtf is going on there. I see why they gave me discount

My 2nd time coming here but this time with my hubby. I like everything what they served here starting from the brisket to its rice cake and simple Japanese dishes. My haven to quench my cravings for Asian food. I was even surprised with my hubby’s reaction because he’s not really an Asian food fanatic but amazingly he liked most of the viands served. I’m so happy that he really liked it. He liked most was the fried gyoza, sweet potato and sesame balls. Definitely will be regulars here.

How do you mess up Mongolia BBQ? Like HOW? Before you give the benefit of the doubt saying that it’s dependent on the person flavoring it: The chef flavored it for me. Almost all the sushi is made with artificial crab. There’s no flavor in the food. Also the Unilocal reviews are reviewed by the restaurant. Hard pass unless you want to get really creative with the over/undercooked food they give you.

As far as Asian buffets in the Inland Region, I find that Hong has a reasonable price for the meal that you’ll get around the area. I’ve Been here for more than 5 times before this review and I found each time time satisfying. The place maintains a clean environment and keeps the dishes fresh and refilled when its running low. Food wise: The Mongolian BBQ/Grill is equally good as I was able to customize the flavor/spices. The green tea egg tarts were delicious. Along with all the dimsum selection, I found it satisfying like the shrimp dumplings. All in all, I would come back again when I can.

As far as buffets go, Hong Buffet has to be one of my favorites. They have a promotion right now where lunch is $ 8.96(if I recall) which makes it all the better. The place is clean and the food doesn’t look old so that’s a good sign. I tried their hot and sour soup which was okay, better than any other Asian buffet I’ve been too. I was really happy to see that they had shumai and har gow(shrimp dumplings) and I ate a lot of those. Surprisingly decent for a buffet and they were quickly refilled. Probably their most popular items. They also had Gua Bao(Pork Belly Buns) that you could make yourself with pork belly, pickled mustard greens, cilantro, peanuts. Everything else was typical Asian-fusion buffet food. Sushi selection was not great so if you like buffet sushi then you’ll probably be disappointed(I didn’t try any, wasn’t feeling it). They also have a Mongolian Barbecue where you pick from an assortment of veggies, sauces, and meats and have it cooked in front of you. Also did not try — looked legit though. Would come back on a weekday. Parking is easy to find. If you’re spending a day in the Chino Hills area, you could fill yourself up here and then go shopping at The Shoppes at Chino Hills down the street.

Huge disappointment this time around. Took my mom here for a luncheon date with her friends, this is second time I came for lunch, and for some reason the taste of the food changed according to my last experience, all the dishes seemed bland in taste, the few selections of the sushi rolls also was sub-par tasted bland, even the water they served had a funky taste. My favorite Taiwanese items also was done all differently and the texture and flavors are all out of window, as compared to my last experience the taste were on point. On top of all the food was cold and felt like they have been sitting out for a long time, and we were the first party that arrived after they opened at 11am. I was especially bummed out, the star item –egg tart they make on site even tasted bad, the egg custard part is now too sweet and eggs were skimped you can tell by the lack of taste of egg, and also it seemed like this was a batch from yesterday and just reheated in the oven, the top of the egg custard was hard and crusty. It is really too bad, already this was not one of the bigger Asian AYCE buffet, the special items they have and the on point taste saved them from being small, but now even that is gone. They must have changed the management or chef, definitely scratching this place off from my list of Asian AYCE buffets.

This is our first visit, the place looks great, very clean, nice environment, for a Sunday this place is dead. Food looks old and dry, empty food containers, and nobody cares. I requested twice, snow shrimp and it takes 25 min. We need to ask for utensils and drinks cuz nobody came to our table. The only lady who real works in there Cindy, she clean all tables, sweep and fill our drinks and pick up our dishes. Thanks Cindy But definitely we will never come back, expensive buffet and dry and Old food

I’ve been to many Chinese buffets in my life, as my parents love them. This by far has been the best lunch Chinese buffet I’ve been to. Currently, till the end of August 2015 there is 25% off all prices. That puts lunch right around $ 9. The service is extremely nice and the food has more«hits» than«misses» Things that were great: + The dim sum is actually on par or slightly on par with pretty so-so dim sum restaurants, which is very good compared to other Chinese buffets. The Ha Gow is amazingly good and the skin is soft and not doughy and full of shrimp. The Siu Mai isn’t bad either, and is on par with dim-sum to go. The egg tart was excellent as well! Crispy, not doughy. + Sesame Chicken Wine Soup, pretty good. I liked it, but not for everyone. + Pork Belly Bao — Pretty good, make yourself. They no longer have the other things from the previous owner(beef noodle soup, pork knuckle, sesame chicken vermicelli) +Sushi variety is not bad, but it’s not the highlight of the place. +Vegetarian options are great! Pretty fresh vegetables and tastes pretty good. + Twice Cooked Pork with veggies, also pretty good. +Mongolian BBQ has lamb and is slightly under par from a Mongolian BBQ Buffet — so it’s a heck of a deal if you’re craving Mongolian BBQ. Negatives: As always, it’s a buffet, so some things that aren’t as tasty will sit in the warmer for a long time. There are some pretty good things in the trays and there’s a good variety, but I can’t necessarily remember all of them.
