Petco

I bought a cat food for $ 23.99 at national city and it did not work for my cat. So i went to this one to exchange to a cat food that was $ 19.99.
And the cashier told me to pay 36 cents because they have different tax rates. (National city 9%, chula vista 8%)
Even though the one i went to has lower tax rate and the one i wanted to get was $ 4 cheaper, she asked me pay 36 cents.
It does not make any sense to me.

The entire shopping center is a mess, starting with the COSTCO gas station blocking the entrance/​exit. Walmart shoppers causing traffic everywhere and just a mess. But, this review will be based specifically on this store, and not on the messy shopping center. I’ve visited this PETCO about three different occasions, every single time we have dealt with bad customer service and lots of attitudes. Definitely will not be shopping there anymore. I prefer going back to PetSmart, they have good customer service and they are friendlier. We spend a good amount of money on our pets, they’re like family to us. So for them to act as if they’re doing us the favor to even ring us up, is pretty much unacceptable. Also, wet floors? dead fish in the tanks? ummm, yeah, no. Management needs to get it together, or just have someone else take over the job they’re clearly not performing.

Not pleased with grooming service. Paid for a trim and nail service, they told us our dog would be ready in 3 hours. Went and killed 3 hours. Still wasn’t ready when we came back… ended up having to wait another 3 hours. All the while the staff gave us attitude as if we had ruined THEIR whole day, explaining that they had to eat lunch too, which I’m okay with, but 6 hours? When they eventually gave us our dog back, he looked okay, we were so eager to leave that we didn’t notice they didn’t even trim his nails. They just recently called to get us to book a new appointment… no thanks.

I saw like over 5 dead bettas, one including in one of the display tanks smh… Let’s see how a health inspector reacts to that.

Bad customer service, we were looking at the hamsters for 20 minutes, the employee’s on the floor simply chatted away with each other and never offered to help us. We had to hunt them down to tell them that the hamster in the cage was dead. Thats just how well they treat there animals i guess.

I took my baby here for his first grooming and they did a horrible job they cut him and didn’t even tell me I found out when I gat home. don’t ever take your baby there

Took my dog in there at 10:45am for a bath and a haircut. I didn’t get a call for over 4 hours so I stopped in there to check on my dog. When I walked in, it had been 5 hours since I dropped him off, and they were just starting to cut his hair. I called to ask the staff what the delay was and all I got was attitude from the groomer and not one apology. She said my dog would be done in 30 minutes. When she called to say my dog was done, he had been there for 5 hours and 45 minutes. The management took responsibility and were professional about it. But, this will surely be my last time taking any of my dogs there.

Wow – these other reviews are just the opposite of my experience. Now I’ve started private training class with Marissa, and I could not be more pleased. Three weeks into it, and my rescue dog who turned into an absolute monster whenever he saw either a diesel truck or another dog is walking by my side and learning to stay calm when either of those triggers occurs. I’m so excited!
Every time I am there, I am greeted by every employee I come across, they are happy to help me find what I need, make recommendations, etc. And they remember Toby and greet him like he is a long-​lost family member!
So… in contrast to the other reviews here, I’d say run, don’t walk, to this Petco and find friendly, knowledgeable staff who want to do their best for you and your pet. And, no, I am not related to any of them!

Worst Petco in San Diego hands down… It is horribly mismanaged… The General Manager Juan has no clue about quality customer service in the retail environment… Most of the employees are rude and do not ask if you need help… Even though they walk around staring at customers like every one that enters the store is a thief… This place needs plenty of improvement starting with the GM…

I came to this store about 1week ago, as i walked in i was greeted by an employee, that is the only good thing, i was looking for supplies and maybe a new tank (this was going to be my third tank) so it wasn’t a small purchase i was looking to make. I walked around the fish dept for a good 15 minutes, NOBODY offered to help or even came into that section. I got frustrated and left, ended up going else were and bought a 100gal tank (they had a special wasn’t looking for that big), stand, canopy, canister filtration a lot of décor. Set it up got the water tested and filled it about $ 500 in fish alone. Needles to say i dropped over $ 2500 that week on a new tank and i still need more fish and supplies. I will give one guess were i am not going. Sorry petco

I took my dog to get groomed today and when I FINALLY received help Laura (remember that name when you come here) was EXTREMELY rude! My dogs name is Django and she said «this is the wrong dog we have ‘Jango’ in our system.» I politely said «well the D is silent and your coworker didn’t ask me to spell it when I made appointment.» Then everything after was attitude. I asked for a simple request and she said «No, we can’t do that, it’s just a simple cut.» Even tho I called another store and they were more then happy to be able to do what I asked for! Seems like from all the reviews this is not the right Petco to go to! I should have Unilocal’d this before taking my dog which is like a son to me! VERY ANGRY CUSTOMER! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!

In reference to the Grooming: So I called this place before hand to see if there was opening for a dire need of a bath and cut for my puppy. The lady said yes come on in. We came in and they lady rudely told up make an appointment for another day with not explanation! She looked more concerned about leaving. There was no other dog in there and they were not closing anytime soon. I should of Unilocaled this place before leaving. Rude and no customer service
We later found a great place just a few blocks away Paws and Whiskers Grooming on Third. And I am thankful for them. They are the Polar opposite of Petco, Great costumer service, vary nice and friendly. There are a small shop and have a need to services customers, unlike the drone employees who work a Petco just waiting for time to pass.

I took my Maltese to get a bath and cut, from the start Laura was just not professional. So I was told that it would take about 2 to 3 hours. After 3 hours we went back and no; in addition I asked how much longer. The Manager! The Manager told me that Laura went to lunch (I can understand) and that she will be back; but not to worry because she has about «10 more minutes of work to do left.» So screw my pet who is more than a pet! He is family! I could also see that her phone is more important that her job because she kept on checking it and texting back while cutting my dogs hair! [Someone has not told her that the PUBLIC CAN SEE WHAT YOU ARE DOING! THERE ARE HUGE WINDOWS THAT WE CAN SEE WHILE YOU ARE DOING YOUR ‘JOB’.]
I will never come back here ever! Our dog is family and we don’t treat family like Petco treats pets!

I visited this store two weeks ago at which time I asked about flea control for my cat. I mentioned to the salesperson that I heard a pill was available for this. He told me the best pill for flea control was available by prescription and could the purchased from the visiting veterinarian that visits the store on Sundays. Sunday 8÷5÷2012, I called the number I had and asked the female who answered the phone if that was the Broadway store. She answered OK, not yes or no, and to my question about the vet, the person told me the vet would be in at 2:30pm. I arrived at the store at 2:20pm and was told the vet would be in at 3:30pm. I came back to the store at 3:20pm and I was directed to the area where the vet was assisting customers. There were 12 – 15 people waiting in line and an employee handed me a form to fill out about my dog. I was there for my cat and thought the person should maybe ask. I got to the vet and discovered that despite the info I received, there are not flea pills for cats. I paid $ 88 for a prescription liquid to apply to my cat, then went to pay, where I encountered one register open and probably 15 – 20 people in line.
This store was extremely disorganized and the employees have less than sufficient knowledge about product availability, customer service and telephone courtesy.

I wasn’t pleased with the employees on the floor when I came in here on May 31^st. My husband and I were about to meet and pick up our new puppy from the breeders down in the area and stopped off at Petco to get some basics to tide us over before we went back for more later on. We wanted some information on the kennels for sizing, training, etc. and the employees that were there seemed more concerned with other things and ended up wasting our time and money, thankfully we were saved by the Petco crew in La Mesa who corrected the mistakes and gave us better insight.
Not impressed with the Chula Vista location.

This is about grooming. They decided to shave my Pomeranian without asking me. In NOVEMBER. Enough said.

An okay place. The one in East Chula Vista is better though. It is over-​priced, and when you walk in there sometimes, you would find yourself crammed when they have their dog training sessions which is blocked from the fish side all the way to the bird section. So let’s say you are done viewing the fish section and going towards the rodents area, it’s blocked. You’ll have to go around.
Few staffers. If you need help selecting some fish, rodents, birds or have questions about dog/​cat food (sometimes there’s a food representative, that’ll encourage you to buy their company’s food versus the other brand food); the staffers could be found at the cashiers or storgae room, but they’re usually busy and you’ll have to wait a few minutes to get some help.
Some staffers do not know much about your pets needs’ especially if you’re planning to get fish, rodents, birds or ferrets… all they know is the basic information that you need to know. The rest, they’ll advertise you to buy their Petco books about those animals for more information.

By far the worst Petco I have ever been to. Dirty, poor selection, employees and managers who are not very helpful.
I have had one positive experience here and that was thanks to the help of a guy named Ted who helped me pick dog food for a pit bull I was fostering. But that’s about it. Here’s what I absolutely hate about this store…
Okay, first off — Dirty.
I just visited this Petco tonight. The store was filthy and there were tripping hazards all over the place. I had to move a large green hand truck out of the center aisle where everyone was walking. There had been some sort of dog kibble spill in the center aisle as well, where a dust mop lay blocking the walkway. Of course I gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking «oh maybe they just had to go help a customer and the employee will be right back to finish what they were doing…» but no, I was there for about an hour and never saw anyone touch the dog kibble and dust mop or hand truck. The refrigerated unit for dog food had leaked some condensation, so a dirty towel lay on the floor to absorb the water. The floors were also extremely dirty. The inside cart corral was empty (so I didn’t even have a cart to do my shopping with), but the absence of carts exposed an absolutely nasty floor. Good thing this isn’t a restaurant or I would have definitely lost my appetite. And, I mean, I understand it’s a pet supply store — I’m not saying it needs to be sparkling clean but I expect to not feel grossed out going there. I’ve also seen cockroaches at this Petco.
Poor selection — Half of the items I shop for have bare shelves, so I always plan to get it «next time.» Tonight in particular, I wanted a cheap food dish for my dog. Empty shelf.
The employees — As I stated before, I never saw an employee address the hand truck, spilled dog kibble, or grimy towel, but there were employees there. A manager (fancy shirt) and a cashier at the front, then two female employees who mostly stayed near the small mammals. No one said, «Hi, can I help you find anything?» or anything of that nature. While wearing jeans and carrying my car keys, I even had a fellow shopper asked if I worked there. I say if you’re already in Chula Vista, travel a few miles to get to the Unleashed in Terra Nova Plaza. Still in the Petco family, but cleaner, my dog food is in stock 90% of the time, and the employees are extremely helpful.

I want a puppy but I live in an apartment that does not allow pets so I decided to get a bird. Now getting a talking parrot would be really cool but I don’t have an extra $ 1000 bucks to shell out so I decided on a parakeet, mainly because of it’s very reasonable price of about $ 16 with my Petco card.
The guys here were very nice and caught the exact parakeet that I wanted. They even threw in some food from inside the cage when I asked because it was almost closing time and I knew I didn’t have enough time to wander the bird food isle. My mom who knows a thing or two about birds said my parakeet is very young which is very good according to a parakeet book I was reading through because then they are more easily trainable. My parakeet seems nice and healthy and I had an overall good experience in this store.
