The place is very clean. The employees are very attentive. There is a vast selection of dishes. The baked mussels are really good; went back a couple times for those. The sesame balls were also really tasty. The tiramisu cake was amazing. The crab wasn’t very good. The meat stuck to the shell, making it very difficult to eat. The garlic shrimp was very, very oily. The pork ribs were a little too salty for me.

This is by far the most disgusting place I’ve ever been to, the food was disgusting, and it made me take alka seltzer for the nausea. I will call the city on them.

This place was so disgusting it made my stomach hurt… The food was super cold and everything tasted extremely stale. I recommed you NOT to go!

This place is bad! The food is awful. The ambiance is as bad. I don’t even know why people go to this place. I guess for those who don’t know better than cheap tasting food. Yes, it’s a buffet, and eat all u can, but damn, there is absolutely no quality. Yuk! Even my kids didn’t like it. That’s how bad it was. Went there last week. Will never go back.

VIP Oriental buffet on Broadway Street in Chula Vista, is a family favorite. They will accommodate large parties if reservations are made ahead of time. The food on the buffet are really tasty and deliciously prepared. If you are on a diet or thinking about going on a diet, you may want to control your appetite. I just feast and eat all my favorites in small portions. i love their fried crabs, eggplant tofu and fried bananas. They keep the place clean and the staff make sure there are food and plates on the stations. Staffs are friendly and always have a smile in welcoming the customers. Parking here may be difficult during busy hours.

Omg I cannot believe it that its really buffet. A customer ate crab legs. I went to get it but no more. I asked a waitress to refill it but she said that She needs to ask owner. Me and other customers waited ten minutes. They didnt bring out. Then i asked manger to ask owner to get crab legs. someone worked there he said that there were no more crab legs. Omg its really buffet restaurant. Me and other customers kept waiting. Finally they brought some crab legs out for us. What the hell is kind of service to the customers.

I suggest you take your money and appetite else where! The place itself is old, dirty, and outdated. There was tape holding the ice cream machine together. Table we were seated at was sticky and the chairs had ripped upholstery. The food was bland and funky. I don’t know how hard it is to make cream cheese wontons, but this place couldn’t even get that right. The beef in the beef and broccoli was tough and chewy. The egg rolls had a bitter after taste. The fried dough was stale and hard like it had been sitting out for a while. The ice cream tasted like a box of vanilla jello that had been frozen. The strawberry ice cream was sour. Nothing was good at this place. I suggest going to McDonald’s and saving your money.

One word: Horrible! The buffet is overcooked, old and nasty… A health inspector should really surprise visit this place!

This place reminds me of a horse with a broken leg. You know it has to be put down otherwise it’s going to end up dying a slow painful death on its own. If you’ve seen the movie Vegas Vacation, the scene where they’re in the buffet looking at blue mush and yellow mush that’s labeled chicken and beef… that’s exactly what kind of place this is.

Yes, it’s a cheap buffet with okay food quality if you stick to the fried foods. Don’t come here if you’re not okay with that. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid because my parents and relatives love buffets and this place accommodates our big family easily. It’s great for large groups(50+). With all cheap(both in price and quality) buffets, I stick to the fried foods because that’s hard to screw up. With Asian buffets, I also tend to trust the California Roll – another item hard to screw up. I’m a happy camper as long as I have French fries, fried shrimp, and sushi.

This place reminds me of how I don’t ever want to go to asian buffets ever again!!! Cheap — $ 8.95 for lunch Old and ugly décor and tables. Overcooked or undercooked food. Lack of flavors. Very minimal options available. DONTGOHERE!!!

Do yourself a favor and cross this off your list of places to eat! Old as hell, musty smell. Run down with terrible food. A shadow of it’s former form, from 10 years ago. 10 years ago it wasn’t that great either. I went there for lunch with the family today. The majority of it was most likely the leftovers from the night before, especially the Buffalo wings. It was so old, the meat was black. They drown it in new sauce to hide it. Don’t buy anything from the toy vending machines. I bought a glow stick for my kid that didn’t work and the rat girl behind the register wouldn’t refund a quarter for a new glow stick. I hope she gets fired! Haha The only thing nice I can say is that our server was pleasant and had a nice smile, unlike that lazy, piece of trash, cashier. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day(or month) in this dump. Well below sub-standard. For 3 times the price you can enjoy the buffet at Sycuan or Barona and get 100 times the quality and experience. And they don’t have those childrens toy vending machines in front to cheapen the place. Never again.

My boyfriend and I grew up in Southbay so we both have fond memories of coming to VIP Buffet as kids. We decided to give this place a go for dinner tonight, for old times sake. It was already 8pm so keeping in mind that it was almost closing time, I can honestly say I didn’t have high expectations. Soon as I stepped out of the car and a whiff of the air, I was almost knocked to my knees. The air reeked of hot garbage, morning breath and stinky macaroni… you put it together. Is there a sewer nearby? Were we in Shrek’s neck of the woods? Good lord. Once we paid upfront we strolled around to check out the grub. Nothing looked the least bit appetizing. My plate for the night consisted of 95% chow mein — the only thing decent left. Everything I tried was cold or hard but like I said earlier, low expectations people. I will however say that I felt like I needed to shower directly after eating there. Everything around us(literally everything) was old and dirty which made me feel even more disgusted while eating the food. I told my boyfriend that if I could describe tonight’s meal in one phrase it would be that it tasted as if someone just farted all over the food. It stunk & tasted odd. Were we at a chinese restaurant or eating inside of an old onion? Everything was just sad tonight. I remember VIP being so delicious as a kid, sucks that this place now reminds me of a fart. Way to crush a kid’s memories… Props to the hard working filipina auntie working there bussing tables, a true unsung hero. Tipped her a couple bucks. It was the least I could do. Poor thing has to deal with working in such a stank establishment.(Literally & figuratively speaking)

The girlfriend and I were craving a late night dinner and decided to come to this restaurant on the fly. We had fond memories eating here as kids and were confident the food and customer service still held high standards. Man, what a forgetful experience. We arrived 30 minutes before closing when we were greeted with a foul stench of crap and decomposed rat flesh. My legs wanted to collapse because the smell was so unbearable. The smell doesn’t hold a candle to my brother’s morning breath but it’s disturbingly close. In a nutshell, the food was extremely disappointing. Maybe everything tastes better when you’re younger. McDonalds is every kid’s gold standard of eating and what do they know? Right. Nothing. The only dish that was worth consuming was the Chow Mein. Seriously, at a Chinese all you can eat buffet, they had better get that right. Could you imagine? That’s like a Filipino who can’t make pancit. Apparently there’s a limit to disgracing your culture’s food delicacies. In all honesty, we couldn’t get out of that restaurant fast enough. Now the smell of turd is stuck on my clothes. Nice going away present. Much appreciated!

My mom and her friends love this place! I brought in the fam to see for myself. They gave it a thumbs up. The kids price is based on their age so that is fair I guess. So I went ahead and planned my dad’s funeral reception there. The banquet area is spacious and the staff busing the tables was more than adequate for a Saturday lunch. I called a week earlier to reserve the banquet area. Jessie and the friendly staff there mentioned that depending on the size of the party, there would be a deposit. I guess ppl would call and make a reservation then no show on them. Anyways, my friends and relatives seemed to enjoy the lunch. Didn’t see anyone running to the bathroom or hurling chunks outside. But in all seriousness, the food was hot and fresh. Especially liked the sushi and the seafood selection there. There was no pressure by Jessie and the management to pay for the party upfront as people came in at different times during the lunch hour. They did add a 10% gratuity on top of the total after tax was included rather than before tax. But if you’re footing the bill for 50+ guests and everyone seems happy and full, what’s an extra few dollars, right? Overall, VIP has my stamp of approval.

It’s either you love or hate this place. I think the ones that love this place have either stomachs and digestive systems made out of steel or have a low tolerance of cold and old food. The ones that hate it – well, I sympathize with them. I don’t exactly know where I stand with this because I feel like I understand why people go here: Food is fairly priced and you can eat to your heart’s desire. Plus, families can celebrate here as they have a pretty good sized banquet area. But, being that I do care what I ingest and the look of cold food that has been left out in the warmer a little too long(and probably has an insane amount of grease and MSG) discourages me to eat here. When my husband and I ate here(by the suggestion of our sweet and well-intentioned friend, who was also with us when we dined here), I was quite impressed with the price. I even saw their banquet area to the left of the entrance and thought that this was a great place for a huge family gathering. But, when I saw the selection of food, I immediately had the mindset to pick and choose my battles. The food items that were mentally distinctive to me were the congee, hot and sour soup, garlic chicken, fried cream cheese wontons, and the sushi. The congee had NO flavor and the only garnish they had for the congee was chopped green onions. The hot and sour soup was pretty okay, but can use more pepper as it was rather salty but bland. The garlic chicken was the most flavorful out of the bunch, but tasted MSG laden. Some of the cream cheese wontons were a little scarce on the cream cheese and really greasy, but a little hot sauce gave it a kick. Finally, as for the sushi, other than the fact that I dined here while being pregnant and raw fish is off-limits for me, I didn’t even bother to eat any because it looked really slimy and unappetizing(even their California rolls). My husband said to me that the sushi tasted frozen, so it’s definitely not fresh. The good thing about this place, besides the price, is the cleanliness. Okay, aesthetics-wise, this place looks old and run down. But, the dining area seems rather clean and the staff makes sure that plates and tables are cleaned and cleared out. The womens’ restroom was clean and well-stocked of toilet paper and paper towels. As I can recall, I think my husband shared the same opinion when it came to the mens’ restroom. I have mixed feel about this place. I will probably go again if my friend suggests this since he really seems to like it here. But I’m going to err in the side of caution here and give it 2 stars.

OKAAAAYYYY… Write a review about VIP. I went here with 150 people for my uncles funeral reception today. Considering it was luch time and the amount of people, they did good. I really liked there food but the sushi partof the buffet had their problems getting sushi out fast enough to feed everyone(which I hated waiting for the really good sushi that they have), this is the ONLY reason why they’re not getting a fifth star. For all you can eat @ 10 $ a head, this was really good!!! I should have taken pictures but I forgot my phone :(. The food was really flavorful and the empty plates were always cleared. I cant see what else a person can ask for at 10 $ a person, with the exception for the sushi section bering full! If Escondido had a place like this, Id be there on a daily!!! VIP is as good as it gets for 10 $, promise you that!!!

My mom is ghetto, maybe that’s why she likes this place so much. If you frequent here, you will be able to spot her without difficulty. She is a slender woman in her 60’s with a HUGE purse and a few ziplock baggies inside. Kidding… or am I?! I have frequented this buffet with my kleptomaniac mother for years. If you have really low standards, want to steal food, have an insatiable appetite for MSG, and just want to fill your belly without paying a lot of money, this place is for you.

My dad has been here a few times and decided to treat my brother and I after church. We pulled up 5 minutes before opening time(11 am) and I highly recommend it. All you can eat for a little under $ 12, food didn’t look nasty and the presentation was pretty decent as well. I can see how it could get messy quickly though. They filled up fast. Again, I recommend coming when they open. We were seated quickly after paying and someone came by often to pick up our empty/finished plates. You’re typically on your own at buffets, so service here was great considering. None of the food wowed me, but nothing was horribly disgusting either. If I had to choose I’d say I mostly enjoyed the fruit, stuffed mussels, steak fried fish, hot wings, and steamed broccoli. Yea, I’m not sure how you mess up steamed broccoli either. Drink tip — Mix your lemonade with the raspberry tea… yum! Overall this looks like an older establishment that’s still hanging in there. The customers that come in(like my dad) know what they’re getting and are fine with that. I personally would have opted out if I had to pay. I have no major complaints on free meals. Someone reviewed that the bathrooms were horrible and I disagree. I’ve seen much worse. I didn’t gag or fear accidentally touching a wall or anything. You know how that is… so it was fine. They have sooooo many different food options which I found both cool and scary. Like did you guys cook all of that, TODAY? Hmmm. This is why we pray over our food before we eat folks. Never know what’s going on in the kitchen! Dessert is lacking which was a bummer. I wanted a cookie or something. There’s an ice cream dispenser like Hometown, but skip it. Not sure what ingredients are used unit(maybe a powder?), but it’s not what I would necessarily call soft serve. No thanks. That’s all folks!
