I have been to HOE a dozen times now since they’ve opened and I stay away from their breakfast/brunch scene. It’s a shame that HOE can’t make a traditional breakfast dish. The eggs are always rubbery and taste as if they’ve been sitting out and their HOE potatoes are despicable. They just cut up boiled russet potatoes and leave them unseasoned. The dishes always have little to no seasoning. The Dirty Sanchez is riddled with those horrid bland potatoes They have a good beer selection and good burgers, which makes it a decent late night choice. It’s just sad they can’t be good all around.

Our housemate has been telling us how good Hang Over Easy is; and since my wife is kinda like a real life Leslie Knope, we’re always looking for a good breakfast place. While this place ain’t Pawnee Indiana’s JJ’s Diner, it has a lot going for it. Hang Over Easy is located in Clifton where the old Holy Grail used to be. Thank the Lord that they spruced it up quite a bit — very light and clean. While we were waiting we saw food coming out of the kitchen — huge portions, beautifully plated. We were quickly sat down and were welcomed by a very friendly server. I ordered the goetta omelet, my father had the«frog eyes»(I think it was biscuits & gravy topped with 2 fried eggs), and my wife and mother split a veggie omelet and a side of fried brussels. We were all happy. The wait area also has a giant Jenga set, so loud crashes help you wake up unexpectedly:) This place may give my favorite breakfast(Sugar’n’Spice) a run for it’s money! I totally recommend a visit.

Booze and breakfast food. good combo! I have only been here a few times for drinks and this past week I finally ate some of the food. And it was tasty. The service was also on top of it. My guess is they all work from the same tip bucket because we were getting help from anyone who seemed to walk by seemed to offer assistance if it was needed.

Decent place for breakfast/brunch — I give it a 3.5. We were here on a Friday around lunch time but were in the mood for breakfast. We were seated fairly quickly — it’s a large space. My fiancé had the chicken and waffles, and I had eggs with home fries, which were OK. I liked the fried chicken on my fiancé’s plate more than the dish I ordered. A satisfactory meal in a very chill, college-vibes restaurant/bar.

I just wasn’t impressed at all. Came here for breakfast early on a Saturday and it wasn’t to crowded which was nice, however The food just wasn’t good. Breakfast potatoes were more like dinner potatoes, the waffle and pancakes were tasteless. The chicken however was really good! My mimosa was just average. But for only $ 4 who can really complain about that. I enjoyed the parking lot right in front. Other than that, nothing I have to try again.

Hang Over Easy is a super mixed bag. I want to love it, but I just cannot give it an excellent review. I’ve eaten there about nine times due to its proximity to work and campus sports games, so I feel like I have a pretty good feel for it. The good: The environment and set up of the restaurant is amazing. Its open, airy, artistic and definitely has a cool Cincinnati vibe that is uniquely its own. The beer selection is also fantastic and the mixed drinks are always delicious. The Reuben is also one of my favorites and the fruit and yogurt parfait is a great, light breakfast. The service is always excellent– they have some truly great servers and bartenders on staff. The bad: The food is, quality and taste wise, EXTREMELY uneven. The Reuben is the only consistently good meal I’ve had there(eaten it twice– reubens are a weakness). However the eggs/omelets have ranged from tasty to absolutely gross. I’ve eaten their signature dish«the Dirty Sanchez» once and it was really mediocre-it mostly tasted like potatoes and it is best described as «meh.» I’ve gotten the Greek omelet twice and the first time it was awesome, fluffy, and fresh. The second time it was godwful. It had onions in it, despite specific instructions not to include them and it was rubbery and dry, like it had been out in the microwave. People I’ve gone there with have had similar issues with eggs/omelets– they are rubbery, seemingly microwaved and have included ingredients that were requested not to be included. Overall, food wise, I am not impressed with their signature meals at all, but a fan of their lunch and yogurt/granola– which is odd, because you think they would master eggs at a breakfast joint. Final conclusion: I probably won’t seek out Hang Over Easy ever again for breakfast foods. Lunch, maybe, a beer, maybe. But I will not be walking away with egg on my face.(Sorry for the awful joke, I had to do it).

I enjoy breakfast at HOE. The atmosphere is fun, they won’t judge you if you want a beer with your breakfast, and they have a pretty good menu. The food is good, not great, but overall a great breakfast option if you’re near UC. I’ve been here a couple of times. My favorite dishes so far have been the Dirty Sanchez breakfast burrito and the HOE burger. The burrito was filling and really tasty. I wish the burrito would have been grilled or the tortilla would have been heated up. The HOE burger is a burger with bacon, cheese, AND an egg on top, which is basically the perfect brunch combo. It’s served with super crispy french fries that I really liked. I’ve also had the Pollo Loco Chorizo Skillet which was good, not great, and the Steak and Eggs which was not very good at all. In general, their food is a little inconsistent… I really dislike their breakfast potatoes, and their food could be seasoned more. My husband’s steak and eggs last weekend looked and tasted like it had been under a heat lamp for a while. The beer selection is top notch here which is one of the main reasons we come to HOE over other breakfast options. They have 20+ beers on tap, many of them local. The servers here are pretty good and friendly. The wait can be long on the weekends, so if you want to avoid the rush I recommend getting here before the college kids wake up(i.e. before 10am). Pro tip: if the wait is too long, the bar is always first come first serve!

Great food. I had the simple omelet with ham and swiss. It was flufffy and thick. Taylor our server was great. Parking in street or across the street.

Just yes to the breakfast here! This is definitely our go to place when we crave an awesome breakfast. The portions are large(always have enough for leftovers). They keep the menu simple and excel at what they have on it. The staff have always been great as well! I’ve never gone there to drink, but I can imagine the college kids have a good time there at night and cure hangovers the next day. ;)

Lots of good things here: –The atmosphere is very hipster. It’s pretty sweet. –Enjoyed the food. Pancake was really good. Sausage and home fries same. Biscuit not as good as it looked. –Breakfast all the time –Mimosas! The bad things(and reason why it’s three stars rather than four): –Service isn’t really their thing. When we walked in it said wait to be seated, and we waited for five minutes. Our server didn’t really have any interest in serving us. –Food took forever to get to us. Seriously, there were only four other tables. No reason for the delay.

We were in town visiting family in a hospital in Cincinnati, and were looking for something that was as far away from a chain as we could get, close to the campus area. Hang Over Easy hit our criteria for fresh, interesting and affordable breakfast with high marks on all. Walking in the door is even fun, with funny sayings and Cards Against Humanity signs all over the exterior, and the interior was clean and somewhere between modern and industrial without feeling too cold. The staff and the fireplace had a lot to do with the warmth. Servers were all individuals with personality and charisma, and as we all know, charisma goes a long way. The food came out in a reasonable time and looked fantastic. There was way more to eat than I needed, and with all three of the meals we ordered, it looked like you could’ve reasonably shared a meal and given you an opportunity to try a desert. It tasted as great as it looked. I got the breakfast burrito, which was no wimpy fast food style burrito. Made with love, and ample. I figured when in Rome, and added goetta to mine(a Cincinnati staple worth trying!), and wasn’t disappointed other than the fact that the jalepenos were pretty hot. Maybe I’d ask them to go a little lighter on them next time. Just a little though! I love the heat normally. With full and satisfied bellies, we wrapped up and headed to the hospital nearby with ease. Parking was plentiful and the place was easy to find(It didnt’ hurt matters that I used to hang out on Short Vine a bunch when I was in college). Put Hang Over Easy on your watch list for sure. Great great stuff!

A solid choice for breakfast anytime in Clifton. I love that they offer traditional breakfast plates(Angry Egg and Sloppy Seconds) for reasonable prices. Their coffee is fantastic, too. Note: I have almost always had extremely slow service, especially on weekends when the hungover college kids wake up and venture out for some grub, until recently. If you’re their during peak hours, expect a wait and then a long ish dining experience.

I left the UC campus area years ago and really wish this place would have been around back then. I recently stopped in for a late dinner on a Friday night hoping to avoid the OTR crowd. For starters this place is HUGE and has an awesome patio area, like the size of Neons. So we were able to enjoy some giant jenga while waiting on our food. The draft beer list was very impressive and the food selection was pretty good too. It’s bar food for sure. I had the bacon burger with onion jam(my fave) with the fries and a flight of beer. The fries were well seasoned plus you get a huge serving. My burger was delish except it was weird that they asked how I’d like it cooked and ended up serving me a well-done burger. The burger patty itself was pretty thin so I’m not sure how they’d even be able to cook it medium well. Still delicious tho! TL;DR — reasonably priced, good bar food with tons of space. Definitely recommended if you’re catching a UC game!

Pro: Brunch food including beverages during the week. Good tap selection. Nice outdoor seating. Con: Service frequently lackluster/slow even during non-busy times; lack of seasoning in food. As the city food scene has exploded these last two years, HOE was a welcome addition in my eyes at first serving brunch food midweek w/adult beverages that in the local area was only possible at Taste of Belgium. However recurrent disappointment soon set in. Initially it was just the bland food lacking seasoning. Come on guys, a pinch of salt and pepper go a long way. Later I noticed it was just the attitude of the servers there. Once I recall asking for a bar menu while seated outside and we were the only patrons at the restaurant. Convo went as such: Me: Can I see the bar menu? Waitress: I’ll see if I can find one but I know everything on it. Me: Well I would like to see one still.(Waitress leaves to get one)…few mins pass Waitress: Bartender is looking for one but again I can tell you what’s on it. Me: Ok Waitress: umm Tachos are like tater tot nachos, wings…(silence) Me: Sounds good, I think I’d still like to see the menu. Few things to point out here. First, if you don’t know the menu, don’t say you do. Secondly, go the extra step if you want more than the obligatory 15%. It’s a service industry as in Serve-Us. Too many other places in the area to go here. Multiple complaints on multiple occasions from multiple friends re: poor service. Moving on.

Hang Over Easy is a good brunch spot. I came here today with my husband and some friends. Nice atmosphere and good food. I had the Pollo Loco Skillet and my husband had the Chicken and Waffles. Both dishes were really good. The chorizo added a great touch to the skillet. Overall a nice place to enjoy brunch and spend time with friends. I would recommend Hang Over Easy and I would come back again.

This place was exactly what I needed after a night out in the town! The perfect bachelorette party recovery stop! I ordered the«frog eyes», fresh fruit, and coffee – a LOT of coffee. The frog eyes was cooked perfectly and tons of food. My friend and I should have split it. It comes with two four large biscuit halves, covered in gravy with large pieces of sausage and bacon(heavenly), and topped with two eggs(cooked however you choose). The fresh fruit was good. I am going to assume the fruit is kept next to salad in the prep station, though, because a couple of pieces of salad ended up in my fruit dish. They have very good coffee here! You also have a choice of creamers(half and half, vanilla, of hazelnut). This was the perfect brunch to help us recover from a long night! The name says it all!

I loved the egg skillet with chorizo and chicken. It was very flavorful and you can tell they use good chicken, none of that fake stuff. Our order came out in 10 minutes which was perfect because we were starving! Next time I want to try the Frog Eyes and see how their biscuits and sausage gravy taste. Overall, this is a cool breakfast/lunch spot near campus with lots of choices! Be sure to come here with an empty stomach cuz portions are large but delicious.

The beer list alone is reason for 5 stars! They had some rarer California brews(i.e., 21st amendment) on tap which was a huge plus! Plus they have specials on the board.$ 3 brews? count me in! The food was mediocre in my opinion, although the salad I ordered the most recent time I went there was humongous! Like many other places in Cincy, they had USB and power outlets for your technological needs. I would go again for beer… and more beer.

Tl;dr great place for ambiance and service. Food is good but not all of it is great. Update 4÷23÷15: I tried the HOE burger with bacon fat fries! Oh my lord! What a well constricted and unique burger! Potato bread/brioche bun, patty made with goetta, bacon onion jam, bacon aioli, perfectly cooked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and sunny side up egg! This burger was pretty hefty and had great flavor! The bacon fat fries have a light sprinkle of paprika that give them a BBQ potato chip essence. They were cooked well too, light and fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. Frog eyes(biscuits and gravy with eggs) and HOE fries. I have to agree with some other reviewers and say that the food was good… but not impressive. HOE has a great environment and ambiance. Lighting is ambient, a crackling fireplace sits before two modern lounges, white swatches in the tile and bar play a big part in the lighting, and it just makes for a really enjoyable place to sit down and have a great meal. My service was also really great. The waitress was attentive and sweet. Service + plus ambiance got that extra star, but if I’m judging the food alone, it’s 3 stars. My portion of biscuits and gravy was HUGE, and the seasoning was right. The HOE fries just weren’t as good. I am not a huge fan of home fries in general because«fries» indicate that something should be crispy! These fries fell a little flat for me. and left me wanting french fries. Overlooking the menu I saw nothing innovative or really interesting. Standard omelets, standard sides, looking at the«dirty sanchez» pictures I was a little discouraged because of the HUGE flour tortilla(no auntentico). I wanted to try the french toast(the only menu item that really intrigued me) but I was afraid to have an overly sweet breakfast. Chicken and waffles were a possibility as well. but nothing else on the menu really peaked my interest. This place just needs a slight menu make over! I would take out all the omelets and make a few that are TRULY unique! But for the old stand by in a great place to eat it in, HOE is your place!

Oh HOE you made my cheat day soooo worth it! I love going to new places and breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. My cousin and my friend joined me this morning on my new food adventure haha. The design of this place is super trendy and chill. When you walk in the bar is to your left and the fireplace with comfy seating is to your right. We were seated quickly and our waitress got our drinks to us really fast. I had a mimosa(which was $ 4 dollars!!!). So I ordered the Dirty Sanchez, it is a breakfast burrito with egg, chorizo, and«hoe fries» then they cover it in queso! Oh man that this was so good! We all shared the bacon fat fries. They were so good! They had like a sweet glaze on them and like a spicy dipping sauce. I will be back! This place was amazing!
