Ordered from the menu the Kung pao and sweet and sour chicken the other night with sweet/sour soup and hot tea. This was our second visit. Food was good, served hot and presented well. Nice atmosphere. Would recommended.

I have gone to Johnny Chan 2 a few times for the lunch buffet, which is decent. On a whim, we went on a Saturday afternoon hoping for the buffet, but it is not available on the weekend. We had to order off the menu. I was very nervous since there is a LOT of mediocre Chinese food in the city. Who knows what their actual entrees would be like. We were shocked, as the food was outstanding! My wife had sweet & sour chicken and it was the best she’s ever had: and that includes the food at PF Chang’s. I had the General Tso’s Chicken. The chicken was fresh and meaty. I typically eat this dish only from the buffet, and the entrée was MUCH better than the buffet version. However, since I only get a small portion from the buffet, the dinner portion was too sweet for me. While I enjoyed it, I will have to order something that’s more to my entrée tastes(e.g. Kung Pao, Hong Kong Chicken). We will give them another try and see if they just«had a good day» cooking, or whether this is the quality we can expect each visit.

I can’t speak for other times of day, but the lunch buffet during your lunch break is worth it. They have a great selection of buffet items and if you get a water with your meal, you’re not really breaking the bank. I highly recommend getting here closer to 11:30 so you can beat the lunch rush as there is not a lot of room in the buffet line area.

Food was not great. It reminded me of frozen food. The lunch special smelled funny as well. Will not be returning.

Restaurant was clean, but food was mediocre. They add MSG so you have to request they omit it.

Don’t order take-out at this restaurant. The food is good on the buffet and if you dine in, but the take out is dismal. We’ve tried to order take out from this restaurant several times and each time have been disappointed. Last night, we ordered take out from Grand Oriental which is always consistently good but also ordered from Johnny Chans, just the crab rangoons, best in the city. We picked them up and when we got home and started setting out plates, opened the container w the crab rangoons, they were a dark brown, clearly over fried and nasty. Burnt crab rangoons are not edible, trust me on that. We’ve ordered take out from Johnny Chans on several occasions because I am very fond of a menu item there. Each time, and I do mean each time, my order has been screwed up, we finally decided we would only get the crab rangoons for take out. Now, since they knowingly burned them and packaged them for take out anyway, we won’t order take out rangoons. Dine in and eat the buffet but skip the take out would be my recommendation.

Love the owner and the friendly servers here. Great lunch buffet if you are in the area. For dinner, if you want some really authentic, try Peking Duck or steamed, whole fish.

Only came here for the lunch buffet, which seems to be very popular. Limited items on the buffet, but above average quality. It’s not really a 3 star or 4 star, but somewhere in between. But with the price at 8.25 I bumped it up to the 4!

Still good but the buffet went up in price to $ 8.50. Not sure about the price of regular menu items.

My family has a tradition of always eating at a Chinese buffet on Christmas Eve. The wonderful place we normally go to went out of business or moved, so we planned on going here instead. We called ahead of time to see if we would need a reservation and were told we would not. Needless to say we showed up yet were turned away because they said we needed a reservation. This was even though the restaurant was almost entirely empty. Tons of free tables. By and large they treated us very rudely. Can’t speak to the food, but based off of customer service I would not go here.

I ate here recently for the first time, for a 1pm lunch on a Saturday. I had made reservations for my group of 8, and our table was ready for us when we arrived. The problems started when the waitress was confused or overworked and forgot to bring menus. We finally were able to get her attention and she was embarrassed that she’d forgotten. Then we waited a very long time for her to come back to take our order. Twice I had to get up to try to find her, and she was in the kitchen area, so I had to ask a man to please tell her we were ready to order. It was at least 30 minutes from getting menus to her taking our orders. We were so hungry that one person was about to pass out from low blood sugar. When the food arrived it was good, and a good value since most of us ordered the lunch specials. The food was tasty but not above average. The atmosphere was clean and pleasant, but I don’t know if any of us will return not knowing how the service compared to the norm.

I recently visited Johnny Chan 2 for the first time, and it was great! I went for the lunch buffet because I’d read such great things about it on Unilocal. The selection was a little small, but the food was excellent — it wasn’t funky from sitting under heat lamps all day, like at some buffets. And the quality of the food was just better than I’m used to at a Chinese buffet. The service was polite and quick, if a little impersonal. I don’t live close enough to come here regularly, but I’ll definitely stop back in next time I’m in the area!

Im a regular for this establishment and I must admit I have checked out quite a few chinese restaurants and none come close to this one. Ive had one expensive and a smaller portion of food, I’ve had to wait longer at a few, and some were not as friendly. Ive experienced better food, better service, and good portions. My favorite dish? sesame chicken for sure and a few egg rolls with a side of rice given by the entrée. Ive taken out food on the spot(takes no more than 10 minutes generally) and sat down and both ways are pleasant and inviting experiences. The regular employees also try to connect with customers — they connect with me on regular basis when I’m there. Great place.

Place was very busy but service remained good and waitress had positive energy. Supervisor also helped as did other waiters – nice team effort. Drinks(amaretto sour and a gin gimlet) we’re good. Crab Rangoon was tasty as was dipping sauce. Shrimp entrée lacked spicy heat suggested on menu. Good value but we will try lots more other Chinese restaurants before returning.

This is know a lunch buffet, not a dinner buffet. That being said, this place is really good. The food is excellent; I got General T’so chicken and it was delicious. The service is friendly, prompt, and courteous. Highly recommended.

Probably the only chinese buffet that I’ve been to that I haven’t felt like the food had been sitting there since they opened, and I wasn’t even afraid of the meat! The lunch buffet is $ 6.95 for some really fresh, good food.

My wife and I visited Johnny Chan 2, last night, we came in late, around 9:30. The food was OK, it just lacked flavor, I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, the ingredients were all present, however there was no flavor. My wife order something in a «Fried Bird’s Nest», I would stay away from this, the bird’s nest was totally and completely inedible, it tasted like the nest was made yesterday and or earlier in the day and allowed to sit all day. I would not good back to this place nor would I recommend it.

I visited Johnny Chan on a whim for lunch. Having read the reviews of the buffet(dependable quality but limited) I thought I’d shoot for something more unique on the menu. When I arrived the hostess took me to my table for one. I surprised her by requesting a menu, not the buffet, so she had to run back for one. She seemed a little inconvenienced by the request. What I got surprised me. I went for the Mango Chicken which had bell peppers, sweet & sour sauce and some spicy additions. I don’t know what I expected, but it wasn’t this. This was better! Thin strips of chicken thoroughly cooked with lots of large slices of sweet ripe mango and a smattering of bell peppers. The one drawback to this dish was that it was completely drenched in sauce. Billed as a good dish for the Spring and Summer I was hoping for something lighter. Perhaps next time I’ll ask for the sauce on the side? This Chinese place is different than most and offers wine and beer up front. While I can’t vouch for any of the other dishes, this Mango Chicken impressed me. I’ll be going back soon.

Great lunch buffett! Not a lot of food but dependable quality food. I have been going there for several years and almost always have the same dishes: Crab rangoon, quesadillas, egg rolls, fried chicken, sesame balls, doughnuts, dumplings and chicken on a stick for appertizers. For main dishes expect orange or black bean shrimp, kung pao chicken, moo goo gai pan(chicken), sweet sour chicken, mango sesame chicken, vegetables, spicy beef dish, pork dish with green beans(1 is always black bean), fried rice. They also have cookies and fresh fruit and hot sour or egg drop soup. Wished they had won ton soup. It is always packed for lunch and they are slow on drink refills. I never ate there for dinner but did carryout once for dinner. I was shocked how bad the food was for carryout. They must have a different chef at night.

Delicious, fresh, served on a plate when you dine in, rather than in a box. Recommended.
