You pick the food and you eat it nothing more than that! It’s American food and nothing else. Great staff! But no Pepsi ! lol

One of the worst places I’ve ever been to. The food was low quality, not worth $ 16.00

This is one of my favorite places to when I have had a day of hard work and have a huge appetite, I want to eat where I can choose visually and not from a menu. I grab a plate and head for the rare roast beef, no menu and no waiting. They also do an amazing breaded pork chop. The salad bar is great because I get to make it my way. At a lot of restaurants I often have a bad reaction to some of the food but it never happens at Hometown Buffet. All this is important, but I think the reason I keep coming back is the friendly service. We usually go on weekends and a lad named Trevor greets us at the register with a big smile. He has to be one of the nicest person in Sac. His cheerful attitude, attentive ways and good sense of humor makes eating out more than just about food. It is about the overall experience. Sure, I like to dine at quaint places with great ambiance, but when I want home style food that I can count on, I will head for Hometown Buffet. Meatloaf, mash potatoes and gravy, and a slab of rare roast are the typical choice along with a spinach salad with cheese and pickled beets. Maybe a peach cobbler for dessert or the old standard hot fudge sundae. There are so many dessert choices that you can satisfy just about any craving. However, I wish they would add cherry cobbler. That would make the dinner perfect. So give it a try if you find you are really hungry and don’t want to wait a while to be served this place is ideal. The Sunday breakfast is good too with bacon that is so crisp you can hear it crunch and custom made omlets. The French toast is nice too. My rating of 5 stars is between buffets and not as a fancy restaurant.

In one word, horrible. I think everything they get is frozen and they just warm it up. We waited 16 minutes for the cheese enchiladas to come out and they were still cold. Do not go here. It is a waste of your money

This place always has the same ass food. Its like a cafeteria in here. 40 bucks for 3 meals no drinks. Probably not coming back. The grandparents would have given this place 5 stars. Lol

This location was fair. Most of the staff were friendly. My only concern was the veggies were way over cooked, as was the pasta in the mac & cheese. The owner was very friendly, but working at the carving station where the ribs are hidden under a board, so if you don’t know they have ribs, you won’t get any. Then 3 – 4 ribs are pulled out and you’re asked if you want 1 or 2. Rationing the meat like crazy and staring you down when you fix a plate. There was nothing I wanted seconds on except the banana pudding. People actually just started cuting there own meat because he was somewhere talking to customers. I think that’s great and a few times different staff members would carve, but I think they need someone at that station. Definitely a no no to go run the register dealing with money and then not wash your hands or glove before you go back to the carving station. Mostly seniors standing in line waiting on the manager to get back to his station. :/

We have been to this Hometown before and it was okay, but lunch yesterday was terrible. There was a large group that came in after us, but even as we got to the serving stations, protein was seriously lacking. i managed to get a piece of chicken, the rest of which was quickly snapped up by others, and the serving bin was not refilled. Also managed to get the last enchilada, which was also left empty after that. The only other proteins were some formed meat patties my sister said were terrible, and i tried a small spoonful of small pieces of mystery meat(chicken?) swimming in a super salty sauce that i think was teriyaki. It was inedible. If you wanted to load up on mac&cheese, potatoes, or bread, you were in luck. And the woman bussing the tables was very friendly and efficient. But we won’t be going here again. Not even worth the discounted price we paid with a coupon.

We like coming here sometimes when we have those nights no one can make up their minds. Anyway… Tonight would make it the 2nd trip where I had to pass on my master salad I always make, their salad bar is my favorite unfortunately the lettuce is old each mix was very questionable. Yep I’m disappointed. Three stars cause it makes everyone else happy with choices. Hope the salad bar is better next time or it will be the last.

Stopped in for a late lunch on Friday afternoon. The salad bar was well stocked, fresh, and well displayed. The entire food area was sparkling clean and was kept clean during my lunch visit. The food selection was excellent, hot foods hot, and salad items chilled as expected. There are so many healthy options both in the salad area and main course items. Margarita, the server today, was very professional, extremely pleasant, and made sure my table was kept free of used dishes and utensils. She goes out of her way to make sure her customers enjoy their visit to HTB. The dining area was also very clean with tables almost immediately cleaned off when guests were finished. During my visit today it was obvious the entire staff takes a lot of pride in the restaurant. HTB had a great selection of main course entrees for lunch. Their lunch prices made it a real bargain for a healthy meal along with the superb service. A very good buffet experience.

It was a 5 star day today. I was pleasantly surprised at the food selection. Everything was fresh this time. Baked chickem, fried chicken, pot roast, tostadas, baked fish, chicken teriyaki, nachos, fresh baked buns, and more.

This place is terrible there food amount is close to none, all the desserts were extremely dry and to make it worse I got food poisoning from them. I have been throwing up since 12 am last night till now about 7 pm.

So we went to Hometown buffet today. I must say the food was hot and fresh. No complaints there. Good would have been 3 stars. The cashiers were friendly and polite. Our experience would have been top notch for buffet had it not been for a lazy wait staff! We were a party of 4. It literally took the dirty dishes accumulating for 40 minutes before the lady cleared the table. I was very discussed and disappointed. The restaurant was not busy, she just ignored the tables. Sadly enough the management didn’t do anything either. I won’t pay almost $ 15 per person to go to hometown buffet again. I’ll go to Golden Corral, or a sit down restaurant next time.

A very lacking experience… We do not eat at HTB very often anymore, and this visit reminds me why. We stopped for Friday dinner, and paid almost $ 40 for 2 adults and a 9 year old. Pretty pricey. The bars were decently filled, but the food inside was very old looking. Upon eating, it also tasted fairly old. I did enjoy the chicken and dumplings, but that was about it on the dinner menu. The desserts on the other hand, were pretty good. Quite a few options, and the ones that I tasted were good, especially the coconut cream pie. Service was decent, they picked up plates, but no smiles involved. Overall, I really dont think I will be back. HTB has been on a downhill slide for years, and I font see it getting better anytime soon.

I come here for their breakfasts on the weekends. It’s about $ 11(including tax) for an adult if you get the beverage option. Nothing fancy, but the workers are friendly and clear away the tables quickly, and they do their best to keep the food stations clean and stocked. There’s an omlette station but occasionally the line can get long. I like their eggs(scrambled and poached), bacon, sausages, oatmeal, hash brown, mushrooms, and pancakes. They have the full salad/fruit bars and beverage stations open at breakfast. If you go at breakfast, they switch over to lunch at 11 and you can keep eating.

I have been very happy with them in the past, but this visit the food was an unpleasant surprise. The steak meal was a tiny muffin size pan with about six pieces of vegetable topped by four slivers of steak about the size of my finger. The featured salmon wasn’t available for the first 45 minutes we were there, and finally came out just after we got our desert. I got a piece for my husband, who loves salmon. He said it was so dry and tastless he couldn’t even finish it. The hot chocolate drink machine was broken, which disappointed my two grandsons.

I was next in line waiting my turn to pay for my brunch, the gentleman in front of me was probably somewhere in his eighties. The comments I heard from the cashier made me raise an eyebrow and then post this out of concern for others since so many elderly persons do frequent Hometown. The cashier said ‘You tip all the other girls, what you don’t like me?’ Then went on to ask ‘Do you need your change back?’ Of course after stating these things, the elderly gentleman said ‘No’ Cashiers should not suggest a tip for taking your money! Shame on you! I do not normally post, but this concerned me! This behavior is just wrong.

I received an email from Anthony Wedo the CEO of Hometown buffet asking me to review his restaurant so, here you go Anthony… My wife and I go to the Sunrise Avenue location on a fairly regular basis, probably at least 20 times a year. We love the girls that clear the tables and keep the seating area’s clean, Angelica, Vera, the new Rumanian girl(sorry I forget her name) are all very polite and hard workers. Hometown has made some changes over the years that we don’t like, and they have not made some other changes that they have needed to make for years so, I’m here to let Anthony know(in my opinion) what those things are. Changes Hometown has made that we DON’T LIKE: — We don’t like the way they move ‘RIBS being available’ around to different days of the week without any notice, or don’t offer them at all. At what it costs to eat at your place, RIBS should be available ALLTHETIME. And THENEWBBQSAUCEISTERRIBLE. Its all pepper, no flavor — go back to your OLDSAUCEASAP! Even the cleaning girls and the woman Mgr say that all the customers are saying this — so listen to your customers. It was best when you had ribs available(4) ways. — We don’t like Red Onions in the salad mixes ATALL. Onion is so strong, and a lot of people have stomachs that can’t handle it. Make the Red Onion something that people can add, but Do Not Put It In Any Of The Salads — Unless Its An ONIONSALAD. — We don’t like how drinks have escalated to a ridiculous ‘we won’t buy’ price of $ 2.49 each — — THATISRIDICULOUS. 99 cents was great, $ 1.49 was OK but not great, $ 1.99 was ‘I only buy about every 3rd time I go’ and, $ 2.49 gets you a — ‘screw you Hometown, you are gouging me now, so I’m not ever buying a drink here’ reaction for you’re little itsy-bitsy glasses. That is just how it is. If you want to charge me $ 1.99 or $ 2.49, then give me a 32oz cup so I don’t have to keep going to the drink area 6 – 8 times a meal. — We don’t like ALL the things that are missing now because of the area that the New Skillets take up like, the popcorn chicken, the fish planks, the french fries that are children loved etc… Here are some ‘Changes that Hometown NEEDS or HASNEEDEDTOMAKE for quite some time’: — SERVERIBSALLTHETIME. — Serve Hot Dogs and Hamburgers All The time. — STOP under cooking ALLYOURREDMEAT, Really — do you need anyone else to tell you this? Half the comments already here tell you — YOURSTEAKANDREDMEATSAREALWAYSUNDERCOOKED — ALWAYS — WITHOUTEXCEPTION!!! MEDIUMWELLFROMNOWONPLEASE — ITISWHATAMERICA(that doesn’t want to get sick) WANTS. — Serve a better, higher quality pizza, and you really should have 3 – 4 different types, not always just pepperoni or cheese. Pepperoni & Sausage, Sausage & Mushroom, Hawaiian style, a quality Vegi. We are not ALL kids. — Add ‘New Special Dinner Items’ all the time –but– don’t take anything else way when you offer the New Items. Use that old WOK area to offer new items all the time. You’d make people want to come in to ‘see what new little item is on the menu tonight…’ — I like the new deserts but, I would rather be ‘SERVED’ in the desert area. Your place is terrible at making parents maintain their children. *TERRIBLE*. I know its not your fault that parents just SUCK at being parents now days but, I’m tired of seeing kids fingers in things I was just about to pick up or try. I love your chocolate pudding cake and I love your bread pudding –but– accept for the ice cream area, I think most adults would be much happier to see staff in the dessert area serving things up –or– at least being there always without exception to make sure children aren’t touching things they shouldn’t be. Stop pre-cutting and plating cakes and pies — it dries them out. — The new skillets are only OK but, they’re usually over cooked, chewy, and not even warm. They are hard to keep on your plate because they just slide right off. — You cook too much fried chicken at one time and therefor it is regularly old, dry and the outside’s not event crunchy any more. — Your salads are always WET. AND — you offer a Caesar Salad salad mix, and you never have any Caesar Salad Dressing out. If a person wants some, they have to hunt someone down and ask them to get them some out of the back, and when that person comes back they always bring way to much in a bowl. What a waste. And instead of having doubles of all sorts of dressings and salad toppings on your Salad Bar, why don’t you just have more stuff? Things like — Sun dried tomatoes, Artichoke hearts, Mixed Red, Yellow, Orange, Sliced Peppers, Green Olives, Baby Corn, more Seeds and Nuts, Pomegranate Seeds, Sesame Seeds, Dried Cranberries, Dried Cherries, Chopped Apple, Chickpeas, Almonds, Pecans, Walnuts, Crumpled Goat Cheese, Blue Cheese, Feta Cheese, Fresh Parmesan Cheese, Tortilla Strips. And — STOPUNDERCOOKINGALLYOURREDMEAT! Anthony Wedo — We hope this helps you make improvements. We’ll be watching, M & G

Woke up early Saturday morning and felt like a good breakfast. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of Brooksfield or a hearty place like Lumberjack. As it turns out, my wife had some coupons for Hometown Buffett. It has been years since I’ve been there. So with my hefty appetite and positive spirit about it, I was excited about starting my day. We had two coupons for each of us. A ten dollar breakfast. Sounds great. We get to the cashier to pay. After handing her our coupons, she asked me if I wanted drinks. I had a puzzled look on my face and told her that I was hoping for some orange juice because I was in the mood for breakfast. Our total came out to fifteen dollars because she charged us for two oj’s. I thought drinks came with it, but apparently not. I haven’t even eaten anything yet and I was already dissappointed. She handed me my receipt as I happily crumbled up and threw in my pocket. As we were seating ourselves, I glanced over to the dining area and saw many unhappy faces. No one seemed to be enjoying their food. I felt a little worried. As I went to pick up a plate, I noticed how small the plates were. After filling up my plate, I went to sit down at my table. There, I was greeted by our server who asked for my receipt. I did apologize to her because it was crumbled. That’s how I felt about my drinks and soon after my meal. This server had absolutely no energy. She sounded like she was either high or just doesn’t care about her job. I laughed and thought to myself, can this place get any worse. The bacon, sausage, eggs were the only highlights of the meal. Everything else just made me say, «never again». Even the stinking orange juice wasn’t fresh. I was very disappointed with the food. The food is just bad quality. I have never given a one star before, but I don’t even think it deserves that. You are better off with Taco Bell because even Taco Bell has better tacos. So, if you are in the mood for a cheap Buffett, and low quality food, I encourage you to try Hometown.

TERRIBLE! The place had a good amount of people but the food seemed as if it had been there too long at 6 pm on a week night. It was dried out and heat lamped beyond being fresh looking… preposterous! The worst of the worse was the soft serve vanilla ice cream which if I blind tasted it, I would swear on my life it was frozen Cool Whip… just plain nasty! There were a couple of redeeming food choices: Mashed potatores and gravy were pretty tasty and I actually enjoyed the Mexican ground beef at the taco bar along with the pico de gallo which was the freshest thing I tried. Totallly not worth what we paid even using a coupon.
