Saunders Landscaping Construction

My husband and I contracted Saunders Landscaping Construction to get our yard ready for our wedding. This was our first time hiring a company for something like this and we were a little nervous not knowing what to expect but Jack (the owner) was so knowledgeable and kind that we felt at ease right away when we met with him. We didn’t have a very large budget and we didn’t know how much we would be able to get done but Jack and his crew made us feel like we were the most important clients they had. We knew with the space we had we couldn’t have a traditional fabric isle, Jack suggested these small beautiful rocks and let me test walking on them in heels to ensure I wouldn’t fall. I cannot recommend this company enough and to other reviewers complaining about things not happening exactly to schedule, this is a small family owned company and honestly knowing he would take a few days to let his workers get healthy makes them an even better company to me!

My neighbor and I contracted Saunders Landscaping to do a project of installing a new fence between us. We scheduled the work on the 17^th of Nov. In our conversation with Jack (The owner), I told him that I have dogs to worry about that needs to go to the yard so I don’t want an open space that the dogs might go out. Jack said the whole process will only take two days so I don’t need to worry.
A few days before the scheduled day, Jack came and said they will start the job on the 16^th of November (Monday) so I said it’s great that whole week will be sunny. And that was a WOW moment. Monday came and they started the demolition of the old fence and I’m sure they will finish the project the next day as he promised. Jack is not present during the demolition but the crew he sent were very nice. The next day Tuesday, I woke up very excited thinking the new fence will finally be installed and the inconvenience of the previous night watching the dogs as they go out in the yard making sure they will not escape the open yard, suddenly became a disappointment when Jack knock at my front door saying they will not be able to work that day but will do it the next day. He said one of his worker got sick so I said okay he will probably get someone to take his place and finish the job on Wednesday. Well, Wednesday came and NO work is being done. I spoke with my neighbor about the delay and he said Jack told him the same thing, his worker got sick. Today (Thursday) they are not here still and I doubt if they come tomorrow being Friday. Next week there’s a forecast of rain and with the holiday coming up who knows when they will be coming to finish the job. The two days that was promised suddenly becomes a who knows when. I mean how hard is it to find a replacement workers just for this job so that they can finish on time? I believe Saunders Landscaping probably overbooked their job scheduling that they are having a hard time shuffling workers. I’ve read a post on Unilocal from last year (2014) from Alex P that mentioned the same problem of unreliability but it was too late. I will update this post as to when the job is done and how it is done. As of now, just be aware and really check a reputable company. Sorry I cannot recommend this company. I’m reviewing as accurate as it is fair with no bias.
Update:
Finally, today (Nov. 21) at around 2:30pm the fence was done. I’m updating my review to 4 stars for the quality of the work and friendliness of the workers. It took the project longer than I expected, as promised, but after six days the work is now finally over.

Jack Saunders promised to get my property in showing condition after I told him I was trying to sell it and made clear my expectations and needs. Week after week he dropped the ball and finally after 3 months I decided to find somebody else. I would not be leaving this review however just for the poor landscaping service. I started my service on the 6^th of the month and assumed that service would thus be valid until the 6^th (like most services). This was not the case and instead of politely informing me of this he left me threatening voicemails and emails saying he was going to place a lien on my property over $ 60 and charge me late fees (I was less than 2 weeks past due). He then proceeded to call friends of mine and slander my name to them. This was the final straw and I would like to try and help anyone else avoid his services in the future if I can help it. I have never had a contractor talk to me like this before and would say he needs to work on his customer service and needs to do the work he was contracted for if he intends to stay in business.

My husband and I just recently had our backyard done in stamped concrete by Saunders Landscaping and we couldn’t have been more happy with our end result. Not only did we get quality work, but Jack was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Customer service is big to me and Saunders Landscaping definitely has the best.

I called Jack after researching various landscaping businesses. He met with my husband and I the next day and went over some landscaping plans we had made some time ago. He was confident that he could give us what we wanted. He brought back the next day a contract with an explanation and breakdown of all he was going to do for us and when payment would be due. He showed up every day on the work site, working alongside his crew. We were introduced to them all and they were very polite and helpful with my questions. They were on time and when he couldn’t be there he would always call in advance and inform us. When I had questions and called him, he would promptly return my call. He prides himself on his workmanship. He built us a beautiful waterfall feature and ripped out all our sod and replaced with walking paths and sitting areas. We are putting in all drought resistant plants and he set up the drip system for them. He is also pretty knowledgeable about plants. He built a half wall between my garden and the yard that I asked for, as well as a paver circle where we have placed an outdoor fire pit with chairs. All in all, a positive experience and I’d recommend him highly. The best — he would always set something up and ask if I liked it before he cast it in stone. That way he wouldn’t have to rip it up again and cause double work and costs. Smart thinking!
