No complaints here. Service is excellent, food is great. Nothing pretentious about this place. What you expect from a great steakhouse. Ask for waitress Brigid.

This place is sublime. I went here for my birthday this year. I wanted a good steak at a place where there wasn’t a kiddie menu. I got so much more than that at Clawson Steak House! I immediately fell in love with it’s old school vibe. The restaurant was busier than I would have thought for a Wednesday night, but we were seated immediately. Our waitress was a pro, doing just enough checks without being intrusive. The house pinot noir was delicious(and they had a generous pour, as well). The real star of the show, however, was the steak. Oh, that steak. Gorgeous, grilled, delicious perfection, covered in zip sauce, cooked exactly how I ordered it. It was accompanied by a twice baked potato, which was very tasty; fresh, hot bread, and a salad. My only(tiny) complaint was the salad; it was very basic(iceberg lettuce, one cherry tomato, and one cucumber slice), with dressing glopped on. Still, it didn’t take away from the dining experience at all. On Wednesdays-Saturdays, they have a live band(two men, playing old school classics. It was fun watching the older couples slow dance, making the most of those Arthur Murray lessons. I will most definitely be back!!!

Amazing deal for the money, great food and even better service! I had the steak with portobello mushroom, a baked potato, cup of soup, and salad meal. For $ 18.95… Wow. The meal pairs well with Malbec. Romantic ambience. Even for dining alone. *During my meal, I got sauce on my blouse from cutting the steak. It could’ve been fate, but my waitress saw this in passing and immediately she came over and said she would go to the kitchen and get some club soda to get the stain out. I was amazed by her quick responsiveness, her intelligent suggestion, and ability to care. The food could have sucked and I would have come back because of that.* The food was pretty good! Only complaint is the pool of sauce that comes on the plate of steak, which is kind of a steak blessing in disguise. They have the good dessert mints by the door too. Yum. I drove out of the way to come here & I am glad I did. I will tell everyone I know when they ask for meal suggestions. Everyone from my company has to travel to this area, and our meals are paid for. :) Special thanks to my waitress for her hospitality. Seriously, hospitality is almost impossible to find in this general area, thank you for making this a good experience and for going above and beyond the call of duty. The owner should be proud of their restaurant.

I’m so confused… For those of you who have seen the movie DINER, I’d imagine this is what the food tasted like. Greasy steaks, flavorless, watery soup, runny salad dressing… Something tells me they never set out to be a 5 star restaurant, so I don’t feel guilty for not giving them 5 stars… The waitress was super friendly and pretty attentive, so she got them a star; the other is because the atmosphere isn’t half bad. We won’t be returning, but something tells me they won’t miss us; not our scene.

We heard about this place and that it was excellent. Walking in, it was definitely an old school feel, we liked that. Service was incredible and we loved the live music. We got the mussels casino to start with, which was delicious. My stuffed rainbow trout was small and good but not great. My husband got the delmonico, huge and cooked right but again, not great. You get soup and salad which was cool but not really needed. Our waitress was one of the best we have ever had. Our bill was $ 86 and I wouldn’t say our meal was worth that much.

This is what you call«old school» steak house. The outside of the building definitely gives you your first clue — and the inside matches the out. It’s totally great… like my own hot tub time machine w/o the hot tub. The bar is where we hung out — good appetizer happy hour deals, and the wine list was okay. There are a couple TVs up at the bar, and the staff are very nice. I did have the steak bites for an appetizer and they were delicious — not sure if that’s an indication of how their whole steak would be, but I’d be willing to give it a shot. Overall quite pleased w/my experience and suggest if you’re looking to go back in time to have a good meal, this is your spot!

My father is a fan and I think it’s a fancy Rams horn. The entire concept of this restaurant is backwards. They have valet but no dress code. I’ve seen on more than one occasion someone wearing a nascar jacket. The food is ok. I would never willingly spend my own money here though. I’ve had filets and chicken parm. On the latter my pasta was served on the side? My last waitress had more character than i ever care for in a dining experience. Not great.

So my father used to take me here all the time and I remember great meals place is very very busy tonight service is fair to good. But I will come back here the seats are so worn out that you’re resting on the metal frame. Hey if you order dinner they charge you 20 bucks for the split!!! Not only is it’s ridiculous they automatically charge you extra. No warning it just shows up, It feels like the owner use every opportunity stick you, not acceptable it’s just not a good place. NOT a honest way to conduct business. Now lets talk about the food. Yea I have a lot to say about that. So I ordered a Surf and Turf, the steak was mushy like it had been chemically tenderized. Two of the 8 persons got sick and I was one of them both of us had the steak. The asparagus was limp and cool. The food overall was poor or at lest the items we had. So can’t recommend this Bar/Restaurant. So here are the plus, good drinks and the band was good as well. If you’re looking for a place to drink and dance this may be an option.

This was my first visit to the Clawson steak house. I definitely built it up in my head! We were seated in an intimate booth around 5:30 on a Saturday. The place filled up pretty quickly thereafter. They feature live music at 8pm, so most people prefer to sit in the dining area(versus the bar area we chose to sit). The first thing I noticed was that the linen on our table was dirty. There were a few hairs, several crumbs and even a lemon seed. Not a good first impression. Also, they have Keno on the table, which takes an otherwise classy environment and makes a diner feel like they’re in a dive bar. Suggestion? Leave Keno sheets on the bar rail and if anyone wants to play, the server can grab a sheet for them. Our server was really personable. Not over-the-top, but just right. She gave us time to look over the menu, made a couple quick suggestions and made sure to check on us all night. Between Jacob and I, we tried the prime rib(medium rare), lamb chops(medium) and sesame-crusted salmon. He ordered the French onion soup and I tried the chicken rice soup. Both soups were really good. I love French onion soup, and they do it right, with lots of flavorful cheese broiled on top. The pace of the meal was really nice. Not too slow but they definitely gave us enough time between courses to let our bellies settle. My prime rib was incredibly tough. I was quite disappointed in it, because I know that prime rib can oftentimes be cut with just a fork. Theirs required a knife, and even then I was chewing forever to make it go down. Also, it wasn’t served with au jus as stated on the menu. I upgraded my side to a deluxe baked potato and that was really tasty. Jacob said his salmon was boring and without much seasoning. He did love the lamp chops, though. They were cooked medium as requested and seasoned to perfection. I think the hype is from people who’ve been dining here for twenty-plus years. I enjoyed the service and a couple of the food items, but probably wouldn’t rush back any time soon.

Took my wife and two of our three children tonight. We arrived at 6:00 with no wait, but by 7:00 there was a line, which seems impossible because this place is large. Our meals were perfect in every way. Server was a little green, but attentive and very nice. Bus boys need training for sure here, but that’s true of most places sad to say. Love this place, always walk away with a smile, and plan to return.

WHoever posted that the steaks here are comparable to Ruth Chris needs to get their UnilocalCARD taken away from them. This restaurant has the feel that you are int he 1970s. We ordered steak, since it’s a steak house. It was OK, but nothing to write home about. If you enjoy Ruth Chris, don’t go to this restaurant expecting Ruth Chris taste at a lower price. Personally, it reminded me of steak that I could get at Outback. Will most likely never return. It wasn’t a terrific meal, it was an OK meal.

Great dinner here today. Service was excellent at the bar. Wish I could remember the server’s name. I had the Delmonico.Outstanding. Perfectly cooked medium. It can with soup or salad and potato. I couldn’t eat the potato, as I was about to burst from my steak. The bread was delicious. And real butter. Why not 5 stars? My friends Salmon was mushy and so were the vegetables. I had read here on Unilocal the same complaint. The owners need to understand this and fix it.

Imagine stepping back in time to a place where there were no cell phones or internet and a nice evening out consisted of grabbing a good meal and dancing the evening away with that someone special in your life. If that sounds like your kind of gig, then The Clawson Steak House should be on your list. The Clawson Steak House has an awful lot going for it. First, the place is immense. We were able to walk right in on a Saturday night and get seated in spite of the parking lot being packed. You have to keep in mind that this place hasn’t been remodeled in at least 35 plus years and, while that may be a negative for some, I would recommend embracing it. It really is part of the fun. The restaurant is clean and well managed so it’s dated interior just adds to the aura of the place for me. When you walk in there is a fairly large bar straight ahead. It was busy when we were there but we were seated right away so my typical pre-dinner drink at the bar was not to be anyway. Once seated you really get a sense of this place. I am old enough to remember dining in the 70’s and, I wont lie, there was a little part of my wife and I that got a little misty for our Grandparents when we sat down here. The menu has some old school items just to make sure you know the era they are catering to. Yep, frogs legs and«steer» liver and onions are both there if you want them. Me, I didn’t eat those in the 70’s and I have made it this long, so why start now??? At first glance, I thought the menu was a value but not a mind blowing value. Then I realized that all of the entrees come with soup, salad, and a side. They serve french onion(yep with melted cheesy goodness) as their staple but also offer a soup of the day. This place is actually a STEAL! I ordered The New Yorker(strip, with zip sauce), baked potato loaded, house salad with ranch(yes, the buttermilk style made fresh that you could drink it’s so good), and the aforementioned french onion soup. All of this was $ 24.95! My wife did the filet with all of the above for $ 28.95. My wife’s filet was very good. My strip though, was not the home run I was hoping for. It was just average. My loaded potato wasn’t good. Moving forward, I would stay plain on the potato front. I think they are made in advance and just not that tasty loaded up baked potato you envision with a nice steak. We didn’t do dessert though they looked good. After dinner we danced and went to the bar for a drink and watched the crowd REALLY get into it. It was really a fun evening. My average meal was the only reason I cannot give this place 5 stars and it sucks because I had so much fun I feel guilty about it. One thing is for sure though, my wife and I will be giving this place another go. Hell we may become regulars! It won’t take much for me to edit this review to 5 stars in the future. If you are someone looking for a flash back to remind you of simpler times or someone looking to experience it for the first time, I would highly recommend spending an evening at The Clawson Steak House. PS…I forgot to mention two important items. At least on the weekends, they have a full band. From what I have been told some of the members have been playing there for decades. They were awesome! Also, this place has a wine list that would make the biggest wine snob happy. Dominus, Paul Hobbs(not the cheap Paul Hobbs), Stag’s Leap, high end Chianti’s, etc, it is all here.

The prices hav gone up but product remains as delicious and awesome as before– service from Bridgette is excellent as always– soup is yummy and filet is cooked to perfection and very nice filling portion– they don’t mention size of filet– my only complain– boring boring sides– mushy medley of veggies, blah potato— I would b willing to pay for Mac/cheese, creamed spinach, sautéed spinach, Brussels sprouts, gourmet mashed potatoes…

Finally I ventured over to Clawson Steakhouse. The BF lives in Clawson and he was so excited to go. He has been talking about wanting to go for months. Our plan was to just go for a couple of yummy cocktails and an App. We sit down by this lovely woman who was there alone. Great conversations. However, even the lady we met said that this particular bartender just can’t «handle» Friday nights. We order a Manhattan and an Old Fashion. Both were so sad to drink and to look at. Nothing special about them at all, probably could have walked down to Chili’s and had a better drink. So the drinks were a D grade. Then the app… Now I know at a steakhouse you should order DUH steak. However, we order mussels(my fav thing). BAD decision. They were terrible. It was so sad. I don’t know if they were sitting a while or if they were frozen twice over but we were highly disappointed. I didn’t want to say it but my BF described them as wet socks The worst part was the service behind the bar. The bartender was not friendly. The whole experience was bad. The best part about Clawson Steakhouse was the rolls and the friendly local woman we sat next to. All that said. We want to give this place another shot. Order steaks and red wine and talk about gangster movies. Hopefully I can update my review after the next trip.

If I could give a 6th star I would. I love this place and although prices are reasonable, it’s a special place that I only go to once in a while. I’ll start with the décor, very Rat Pack old school with a hint of mafia sitting around. It’s dark and fun and exciting. We get sat at a nice dark booth and then the candles get lit. Love it. The 4 – 5 piece band, is playing old school 50’s and 60’s songs. It would be the rarest of things to see me dance but i couldn’t help it, this place is just too much fun. I’m guessing the menu has never deviated over the years from what they do and this is a good thing. Sometimes evolution is costly an produces a poor product. We order and almond trough and filet with wine sauce. Our french onion soup comes out pretty fast and has a great deal of cheese. It’s a bit salty but this kind of soup is always salty. Our salads, standard but with their house dressing(Italian) elevates it a bit. Out come out entrees. I love it my fish is awesome and the portion is quite large. Jess B like the steak but not the sauce. This is one me for trying to be cool and ordering for her. Once agin it’s a Jess B birthday — the band plays for her twice customers jump int to sing and there is no way for her not to smile. Everything about this place is very special and I’m so happy that I made a point to come.

One of my clients mentioned that this is one of his favorite places in the Detroit area to get a good steak. We came by this past Tuesday evening to have dinner, shoot the breeze and discuss some business. When you walk in you can tell its very old school by the setup as its quite dim with old school table settings. Its a family owned restaurant as my client mentioned its been handed down a couple of generations. We started in a booth, but then decided we should move to a table as it was 3 guys and it was kinda tight on one side. Moving to the table was a good idea because of the space of course, but also because of our awesome server Stacy. She was pretty awesome and kept us entertained… it also was cool that she and my client knew each other a little bit. The guys were telling me the escargot was a must along with the calamari. I’ve never had escargot and this was an awesome intro it. I was hoping not to have a Julia Roberts Pretty Woman moment and have it flying all over the place only to say«slippery little suckers». Was very easy to eat and was very good along with the bread it came with. The calamari was standard. I ordered a french martini as I was in the mood for it, but Stacy would only allow me to order it if I called it a french whore… done LOL! Those 2 french whores were awesome. I was told the Sizzler(Delmonico) was the route to go in terms of an entrée. That was a huge hunk of meat and pretty good… nothing like a huge, nice medium rare delmonico! The steak came with a nice salad and soup. I chose the baked potato soup which was delicious… my guys got the french onion soup which looked very good as well. Very good food and service here… check it out!

Step back in time with a visit to this longstanding steakhouse. With a band thats been playing there for 35 years, its a great scene for people watching! We were the youngest couple by about 20 years on a Saturday night visit, and luckily got there at 7:30, because when the band came on it got JAMMED. Great waitress, great martini, food was great also. Probably worth getting a little dressed up, and you might want to bring a pocket defibrillator with you for when it gets a little crazy late at night!

Old-school steakhouse with a rusted sign located behind a discount pet supplies store. Not as bad as my first sentence makes it out to be, but still, can they paint their sign? I stepped into this place thinking I was trapped in 1992, but again, not as bad as it sounds. The dimly-lit restaurant and bar is a throwback type place with menus that probably haven’t been changed, since, well 1992. The food was terrific though. I ordered the baby back ribs, which to my delight were not actually made with the backs of babies. They were roasted chunks of pig meat that I enjoyed more than the lobster my then-girlfriend . I’m told her lobster was good as well, which it better have been for that price! Waitstaff was nice, and the rest of the meal was solid, but unremarkable. Looks like have a dance floor for weekend partygoers. Still not sure who goes to a steakhouse with a dance floor on the weekend though. Mobsters maybe? Don Draper? I’ll have to pop back in on a Saturday to see what’s up.

An open letter to The Clawson Steakhouse. Some quick quotes that highlight my feelings for your restaurant would include… «Classy, Romantic & Ritzy». It’s nice to see a resteraunt that wastes very little time showing its customers class act gestures like free valet in an already akward parking lot & complimentary coat check. Execution of menu items has been on point in nearly every single visit. From the second the warm bread baskets with real butter arrive, to the moment your taste buds try your wide varieties of homemade dressings(my personal favorite is your house Greek, it has a surprising zing to it). Anyone who has worked with the amount of meats & bones as I have over the years, I can say this proudly, «Thank you for taking the time to roast all those meat scraps & bones making for one killer stock to make the French Onion Soup»! It’s my honest opinion that most restaurants can’t even do that right, and you take it a step further making sure you melt the cheese until it browns & drips down the side of the cup everytime. Combined with the fact you make your own toast points you just may be on my top 5 places to get French Onion Soup. I feel like I have written so much but it’s just not like me to hold back & possibly write a sequel one day, if I get around to it. Even the sides of pasta included perfectly cooked linguine topped with just the right amount of your hearty meat sauce & fresh grated cheese to sprinkle all over the top as I think back to the days when I use to labor in a kitchen putting up sides for all the patrons enjoying dinner with their loved ones as I stand there deprived of the time it takes to drink a class of water dripping of sweat thinking to myself how nice it would be to be out on the floor in front of the band with my lady eating a romantic steak dinner. Which brings me to the Entrees. The charred 8oz filet with the your mushroom sauce & the Veal Oscar which I ordered breaded was money guys. The genourous amount of crab that was placed on my lightly breaded pan fried fork tender peices of veal scalopini ala Oscar with Bernaise sauce could not have been cooked any better if I did it myself. I didn’t catch my servers name & I’m not sure it would be relevant if I did, but the service your whole staff provided us was top notch. The Clawson Steakhouse is one the wife & I have promised to keep as one of our special places to celebrate our love as we like to do while we dine. Thanks for the flawless dining experience & we look forward to dining with you again. We’re especially looking forward to trying your spinach & artichoke dip, one of those flaming cheeses you have that lights up the whole candlelit dining room, lamb chops, some of your pastas & who knows, maybe one day we’ll leave enough room to try one of your desserts.
