Really I was just not impressed. Let’s start with the menu. They’ve got about 50 different types of rolls. However they don’t have any rolls that don’t have 75 ingredients in them. No standard tuna, salmon, or eel rolls. Basically the menu requires at least 15 minutes of studying before you order and even then it’s still questionable. The rolls were ok, I can’t remember the ingredients of the dragon butterfly flaming hippopotamus so I can’t really recommend a particular roll. The service we had was AWFUL, the waitress basically ignored us. Took our drink order, walked by us 5 times empty handed and then we ordered again and she finally brought it. Order an edamame app and the same thing, we finally asked the sushi chef behind the bar and he helped us out. The restaurant looks like a big empty hotel banquet room, high ceiling, plain white walls, and black chairs. Price was ok, but they did have rolls that cost up to $ 25. Sounds like an entire meal. I won’t be back.

This place is awful. I felt bad because the sushi chef was so nice and was working so hard to keep his customers happy, but everything else just ruined it for him and us. The service was atrocious! Asked for edemame, never got it. Asked for chop sticks, a straw, and a napkin, never got it. I had to go to another empty table to get soy sauce, chop sticks and napkins for us. The wait staff was just awful. The sushi was not that good. They do not have the standard sushi rolls and their menu reminds me of Americanized sushi. No standard tuna roll, california roll, etc. Many of their items are fried or have cream cheese in them. Yuck. This may have been the worst sushi I have ever had and the awful service just topped it off for me. I hear they do have an all you can eat sushi bar sometimes… maybe that is what keeps them in business?

I went because I had a gc, which they didn’t accept. but I wasn’t too upset, because the sushi was really good. The best selection of vegetarian rolls I have seen in St.Louis. The service was horrible and the atmosphere was nothing special. I saw a lot of people picking up to go orders, which is probably the way to go.

I’m always looking for good sushi, so I decided to try Ichigo after purchasing a gift certificate. There were only a few people in the restaurant on a Thursday night, and we were told to seat ourselves. The servers(there were only two, so they took turns waiting on us) were slow to get our drink orders, but otherwise attentive. The sushi list was surprisingly long. There were several veggie roll options, and they were labeled in a vegetarian section– which made perusing the menu much, much easier. Sadly, it took a REALLYLONG time to have our order filled. There was only one person making the rolls behind the counter, which seemed odd for a Thursday night during dinner time. I watched the sushi chef fill a carryout order and then proceed to work on our rolls. It took over 30 minutes after our order was placed.(No hyperbole, either. I had checked my watch.) Finally our plate come out with half our order… Apparently, the fryers were down, so they were still working on our hot rolls. We finished the cold ones as the hot rolls were coming out. I’m glad I wasn’t in a hurry! Another note: I love wasabi. It is definitely one of my favorite parts about sushi. Ichigo had the WEAKEST wasabi I’ve ever eaten! I was shocked at how weak it tasted. I ended up using twice the amount I normally do for the same amount of spice level.(I was also glad they brought out more for the second«round» of rolls. I definitely needed it.) I wouldn’t mind trying Ichigo again, but this experience was definitely lacking.

I am really surprised this place has OK reviews, but mine is for LUNCH so maybe dinner is better. I had the buffet, so maybe I should just expect what I got because sushi buffet for $ 10? Is that ever going to be good? Eww. It was rather gross, though. The rolls have very little fish, if any, and most of them were fried. One even had imitation crab as the meat. I LOVE sushi and really just should not have tried such a thing as a sushi buffet… what was I thinking?(Oh, I bought the groupon and need to use it on something…)

We were big fans of Sekisui Pacific Rim, so we were a bit nervous about coming to Ichigo(like many people, we’ve been burned plenty of times when restaurants change chefs or management). It is a bit different, but we were equally satisfied! We tried a pretty large selection, including fried tofu(not as good as SPR’s, but still very good), salad, crab cakes(which were incredible), sashimi, rolls, and some other items I had never had from ordering the Big Hirohito. Everything, except maybe one item, was really very good. In addition, the wait staff was even better than SPR’s. We will be back!

I’ve been to this place back when it was Sekisui Pacific Rim, which wasn’t all that long ago was it? I’m getting old… I liked Sekisui, they had very good quality sushi, and were fairly reasonable on the wallet. The décor did not seem like it changed much, I saw the Sakisui logo on the plates too. Came in on a Saturday night, and man this place was pretty empty. Two more couples in addition to us. So the food — ordered a seaweed salad, some hot sake, and an assortment of nigiri and rolls. The waiter forgot my sake and salad at first, but eventually they came. Seaweed salad was excellent. The sushi and rolls were fairly good, but nothing spectacular. They do seem to rely on sauces more than usual, where I personally want to savor the flavor of the individual components, but overall good. We did try one of their signature«rolls», which was not a roll at all but this cheese encrusted filling, which was rice with shrimp and some other fillers. I really liked the concept, but the taste was just not there though. Value? Eh… I thought we ate $ 50 worth of food, but the tab was $ 85… eh… I can do better. I wonder how lunch is here?

I came to Ichigo Modern because I was a big fan of Sekisui Pacific Rim(the previous restaurant at this location) and was looking for a replacement. To test it out, I went for the lunch buffet. I know that lunch buffets are never that great, but I’ve found it can be a good test of quality — if you can’t make decent, simple california rolls, I likely will not be impressed with your«signature» sushi. So I went in with low expectations. In my head, there are three sushi faux pas that should never be committed, and Ichigo Modern was guilty of all three of those. 1. Never make humongous sushi. Sushi should be small, bite-size. It’s a dainty process of enjoying the freshness of the ingredients used. The sushi here is a disastrous explosion of mismatched components, and are unwieldy to look at and eat. 2. Never use cream cheese. Even if the crazy overstuffed sushi here was okay, I wouldn’t have been able to taste it beneath the sticky, overwhelming cream cheese present in so many rolls. This is perhaps the easiest way to ruin a good piece of sushi — any flavor was drowned in my painstaking attempts to un-stick the gunk from my teeth. 3. Condiments on sushi are a no-no. Teriyaki sauce? Flavored mayo? If I wanted a flavor explosion I’d be eating Latin cuisine, certainly not Japanese. Several of the rolls were drenched in a variety of terrifying sauces, none of which tasted good or served any purpose. Not to mention it just looked dirty and messy. They also offered a selection of hot dishes; the caliber was about similar to Panda Express. I won’t complain too much. I came for the sushi. If the food here wasn’t bad enough, service was a disappointment as well — slow and disorganized. Plates were grabbed inconsiderately away as you barely finished eating, creating a jarring and unpleasant atmosphere. Ichigo Modern represents the complete antithesis of Japanese cuisine, with its clumsy, muddled, and unartfully thrown together«sushi» rolls. The saddest part is that the individual ingredients were actually quite fresh — what a pity.

Checked this place out in regards of groupon. Nice open atmosphere with tall ceilings and subtle ambience. Giant menu! Accommodating for everyones preference, several signature rolls, variety of asian dishes as well as a couple of more modest american type entrees. A few of the rolls seemed a bit out of my ball park when is come to the sushi world for my taste, not by any means traditional. Our favorite roll ordered was the it’s-ok! roll, least favorite being the double dragon(didn’t exactly tickle my fancy. served in an off white cream type sauce, lacking in flavor.) They have a small list of about 10 mini rolls, 3 pieces for $ 1 each. We ordered 5 different ones just to check em’ out. Surprised to find that they were rather tasty, easy on the pocket, and rather filling. Sashimi quality was mediocre, old to taste(except for the salmon, delicious and buttery!) Tempura fried ice cream fixed my craving for fried sweets! Will likely be going back for their killer early bird special, 40% off from 5 – 6:30! Although, probably wouldn’t pay full price. We enjoy checking out new sushi spots on the discount. It is a pricy hobby and when looking to spend the top dollar we are more interested in top quality dining and stick to our favorite sushi hot spot~ Nippon Tei off of manchester(always guaranteed to be well worth the trip!)
