Lola and Penelopes

I absolutely love Lola and Penelope’s! They have excellent customer service, and extremely clean, and wonderful with my dogs. I have taken my own, past and present, as well as several I have fostered and they always do an excellent job! I have referred several of my friends there as well. They are also very affordable. Make sure to ask for Jennifer, she is fantastic!

Cutest pet boutique in St. Louis! They have unique & darling items that cannot be found anywhere else in town. Sniffany & Co, Chewy Vuitton, Loubarktin… etc!!! They carry only US made food & treats that are all natural. The staff is so sweet to all the pets that come into the store for grooming or just to visit! They even give welcome goodie bags for first time customers! Shop local & support small business by shopping here!

I took my dog there to get groomed and they BURNED HER with the razor… AND THEN DIDN’T APOLOGIZE… I will never go back there

My dog got kennel cough here. We had a three week old infant at home and had to spend NYE at the vet with our dog. Due to the fact that we have an infant at home, our dog had not been anywhere besides Lola and Penelopes. I contacted the manager to inform her of the situation. She then called the vet and demanded a letter. When we went to the vet he said it was either kennel cough or a collapsed trachea and that if the antibiotics worked it was likely kennel cough. My poor dog was hacking the most painful sounding cough and sure enough the antibiotics worked suggesting it was indeed kennel cough.
We have been bringing our dogs here for close to a year. They never asked for the shot records which leads me to believe we are not the only ones who have suffered from a sick animal after visiting.
Because our vet felt uncomfortable writing a letter, Lola and Penelopes decided not to take responsibility for the situation.

I took my 2-​year-​old dog, Larry, here for a full grooming appointment. Tiffani was his groomer, and I have all good things to say about her and the shop! Larry came out looking and smelling great, and T even took him back to do a little extra trimming when I asked for more taken off around his behind. So friendly and such a cute little shop with lots of pet stuff to browse and buy. A nice perk was the goody bag sent home with Lar at the end of his appointment, which included a squeaky toy, lots of treats and a report card of his session. The cost for his spa day was $ 51 plus $ 9 for teeth brushing. (he is 24 lbs)

Update:
The night I brought Larry home from his grooming appointment I noticed a big chunk take out of Larry’s fluffy tail that I hadn’t seen during pickup. I called to ask what happened, hoping for some reconciliation or at least some acknowledgment, as no one mentioned it at pickup, but since it was after business hours I had to leave a voicemail. Left message about what I noticed and asked to be called back, left my number. It’s been nearly a week now and haven’t heard back from the groomers at all. Not going to chase them for an explanation, just won’t be taking Larry back there next time.
Also, the Larry loves the chew toy that came with his service, but won’t eat any of the treats that were included. Not sure if they’re old or bad or what.

Took my black lab in yesterday for a bath. Excellent experience. Tiffany, the Groomer that worked with my guy was super friendly and really genuine. She asked questions prior and was thorough in reporting how things went afterward. I called last minute on a Friday morning and they got me in right away. Despite being busy, the staff were all attentive and friendly. $ 55 plus a $ 5 tip for wash, dry, shine, nail clipping, etc. My dog looks and smells amazing (and in no way seemed all traumatized like some dogs look when they leave a groomer). I’ll definitely be back.

After a delicious meal at Sauce on the Side, my friend and I were walking off our calzone desserts in Clayton when the free samples of dog food from Lola and Penelope’s caught my eye.
There is a main level for shopping and a nice lower level where the grooming and more shopping happens. Some of the products were too designer-​y for my pets. My pets would be Amish if not for their water fountain and microchips; they don’t care about keeping up with the Rovers. However, what’s not for me may be for you, so if you accessorize your pets, L&P’s would be a good stop for you.
We each needed Christmas gifts for our pets — dog for her and cat for me. I got two catnip toys for a little less than $ 20: a classic cigar (cat lovers, if your cats have never had a catnip cigar, they have not truly experienced joy and neither have you) and a long tube. My friend bought some treats and a toy that she hopes her dog will not be able to destroy. One of my cats got found one of his presents in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve, removed it from the bag and had it on the floor when I woke up. It was a hit!

Took my very shy newly rescued dog here. LOVED the haircut and services. They really did a great job and not to mention Ace got a goodie bag of treats and toys, a bandanna, and he smelled great! Took about 3 hours for full grooming and reasonably priced.

I did not have a good shopping exp. Not too friendly. I have other choices to go to.

I called to make an appointment, and they worked me in for the next morning. I met the groomers, they showed me around, and went over the grooming particulars. I had class for most of the day-​my dog has never been crate trained, so I brought a bed and a toy so she might feel more comfortable while she waited. I expected them to set the bed up in a crate, but the groomer sent me a photo of her on her bed just hangin’ out in the grooming room. They were so wonderful. When I picked her up they gave me a goody bag with toys, treats, and even a small bag of a specific food my pup eats. I’ve been to a few other groomers around town, but Lola and Penelope’s has that special touch that makes ya wanna come back. Love!

Had a great experience here buying supplies for my dogs. There was a fairly large selection of discount items in the back corner. as expected most of the remaining sizes for the clothes were the super large sizes and the teeny tiny sizes made for guinea pigs, or mutant «purse puppies.» Since this is a hoity toity store I was surprised they had anything for large dogs at all. in fact, everything they sold they had in large sizes: clothes, beds, collars, treats, etc. Big dogs can be fancy too!
the lone woman working at the store was very nice. Did not greet or acknowledge me right away, as many other reviews complain about, but she helped me pick out the correct sizes, showing me what they had available, etc. She very nicely packed up my purchases and even gave me a gift bag for new clients that included several samples of food as well as treats (bully stick!) and a stuffed toy which my dog swiftly decapitated.
I would probably never buy anything here that wasn’t on sale but that has more to do w my penny pinching rather than any shortcomings of the business. overall I had a great experience and will stop in next time I’m around.

This place sucks!!! Simple, plain to the point. Don’t ever take your pet here to be groomed. Don’t ever use Christy or let them assign you to her. Christy has no business grooming anything. I specifically asked for grinded nails and she still clipped them and to make it soo bad she butchered her nails. My baby was soo scared when she was brought to me. I will never return here for grooming ever again!!! My experience from beginning to end was mind blowing horrific. The staff has the worst customer service. Christy by far the worst groomer we have ever come across.

If I hadn’t gone upstairs they would have gotten 5 stars.
I take my dog to get groomed At Lola and Penelopes every so often. He always has a great look/​smell afterwards! The groomer I got last time was so sweet and handled Syd like her own baby (Her name was Tiffani). The staff downstairs was helpful, fun, and clearly loved animals.
While getting groomed I moseyed upstairs to pass some time. The woman behind the counter didn’t greet me, didn’t offer assistance and just plain made me feel awkward for looking around.
I recommend them to every pet owner because they do such a good grooming job and the prices for the spa are competitive.
Don’t be deterred by the crappy service upstairs, they are a great business!

Loved the store, the boutique items, the ambience, and the stock — they have everything you could dream of for spoiling your dogs and cats, and a cute supply of doggie sweaters too! I would love to shop at this adorable pet boutique… however, it’s difficult to get someone to wait on you, and the staff has a clearly practiced way of making browsers feel like intruders.
I was never greeted or acknowledged when I came into the store, but the pair behind the counter watched me and had the giggles and snickers over something that I hope wasn’t me, so after browsing for maybe 15 minutes and feeling increasingly uncomfortable, I decided to pay for my items and go. I stood at the counter with my purchases in uncomfortable silence for what seemed like a full minute or more and finally asked «Could I pay for these?» to which the young man replied «Duuuh. Unless you want to stand here and stare at us all day.»
I don’t know what I did to deserve that, since the two clearly were not busy and I hadn’t done anything to disturb them to that degree, so I turned and walked out. I shouldn’t have to work that hard to give a business my money.
UPDATE: It’s impressive to me that the owner of Lola and Penelope’s sent me an email apologizing for her staff and offering a 20 percent discount at my next visit. I didn’t take advantage of this offer because I was so incredibly uncomfortable (and, I admit, a bit insulted) at my last visit that I probably won’t go back, ever. Still, I appreciate that the owner reads these reviews and tries to remedy the damage done by her staff.

I spend A LOT of money on my dogs but I won’t waste a single dime on them here. Other than the staff being extremely rude, it’s way overpriced. I would rather go to the Canine Center or Treats Unleashed where the service is much better.

Up until today, I would have given them 4 stars. I work across the street and have brought my cat in for grooming a few times. This week, I called on Monday and we set up a Wednesday morning appointment. On Tuesday they called and said they had mis-​scheduled, could I come on Friday instead? I said yes, and showed up right on time. They didn’t tho. So now i have my cat in his carrier by my desk in my office (wait til the boss gets here!) and they’re over an hour late. They’re not answering the phone either.
Rescheduling the appointment was OK. This really isn’t. They’re too expensive to be this bad at making and keeping appointments.

This is probably the most complete/​biggest boutique pet store I’ve been to in St. Louis. They have a wide variety of food downstairs with an upstairs with the most stuff I’ve seen from cushions, to a variety of carriers and backpacks, to random toys. If you can’t find it here, you’ll likely have to turn to the Internet.
We got our Peke groomed here and I was very pleased. They made a point to ask if there were any health issues that they should be aware of before we got around to that. Also, he came out not smelling like a bottle of perfume was dumped on him.
This place will definitely be the place we take our dogs to to get groomed at from now on.

You know what? I could give this place 5 stars, for the selection of food alone. Lola and Penelopes has a GREAT selection of wet and dry food for dogs and cats that is super high quality (no animal by-​products or grains). So my complaint is not about that.
Lola and Penelopes also has a wide selection of clothes for your dog (if you’re into that sort of thing), as well as toys and treats for dogs and cats. But my complaint is not about that, either.
No, my complaint is for Lola and Penelopes is for their bad customer service.
I don’t expect to be coddled and fawned over when I enter a store. But I DO expect a greeting of some sort, especially when:
a. the store is completely void of any other customers, and
b. you SEE ME WALK IN THE DOOR.
Lola and Penelopes has two floors. The top floor has clothes and accessories, and the bottom floor has food and treats. Of course, being a brand new customer, I didn’t realize this right off the bat, and asked the not-​so-​friendly woman at the counter where I could find the cat food.
She looked at me like I had three heads. ENGLISH, motherfucker — do you speak it?!
I eventually connected the dots and went downstairs to where the food was. I found what I was looking for, paid, and left. The employees barely said two words to me and treated me like a nuisance. Way to make me feel at home!
So like I said, I COULD give Lola and Penelopes 5 stars for their selection of great food. And I love supporting local businesses, and I do so whenever possible.
But there are PLENTY of other local pet shops in the area that carry the same great food for the same price (Airedale Antics and Treats Unleashed are two great examples), and treat me a hell of a lot better. I see no reason to return to Lola and Penelopes.

Our new dog is so tiny, no more than 5lbs. I’ve been walking her with just a collar and it’s not working the best, especially because her neck is so tiny. I have been looking for harnesses at other stores; PetSmart, Petco, even Target and no luck. Either their harnesses are not small enough or the straps would be harsh on her delicate skin. She’s the definition of purse puppy.
L&P is the couture store for dogs. They cater to all sized dogs especially the smallest of the small, aka the purse puppy. Their selection of harnesses, while small, were exactly what I was looking for. Extra small sizes and cushioned straps to protect sensitive skin. The return policy is store credit or exchange only. Most of the merchandise is very good quality, über cute detail and you won’t find it elsewhere. But it comes at a eye popping price tag compared to large pet supply stores. The harness I was looking at cost almost 3x that of the harness I got at a major pet store for my other dog. Believe it or not there were ones that were 6x MORE expensive. In the end, I just couldn’t bring myself to purchase when I have the Internet at my fingertips where I can find a $ 10 harness with the same features I’m looking for. I know, I know… it won’t be a name brand, but that’s the beauty of dog children, she won’t complain or talk back.
Nonetheless, I love to browse this store and if I was a money maker… both my furry babies would be decked out in Juicy Couture for dogs. For now, I’ll window shop and check their clearance section frequently in hopes of finding a good deal.

I know. It hurts me to give them this low of a rating. I even started at 2, but the Christmas spirit got the better of me.
So, sometime over the summer there was a Groupon for L&P which I promptly snapped up and sent my pup for a lovely little spa day. She looked great, they let her stay until I got off work, and with the Groupon it was super cheap. I was happy.
Fast forward several months and what should appear in my Thanksgiving card from my parents but a L&P Groupon. Sweet! My little girl would look her finest for the holiday. I called to schedule an appointment and was DENIED.
You see, even though the Groupon states «can be given as gifts» what they fail to mention is «unless giftee has already bought one.» How the hell was I to know that my mom had purchased this Groupon? I call total B.S.
The woman on the phone was less than understanding. All «you can have Groupon refund the money» which is totally not the point.
I gotta say that I was pretty pissed off and that this kinda clouds my previous good experience. If they weren’t going to accept gifted Groupons then they should have been upfront about it on the Groupon itself. They showed absolutely no willingness to compromise or try to remedy the situation.
It was the lack of customer service that really blew me away. It’s easy to give good service when the customer is happy, but it’s how a company reacts when issues arise that show its true colors.
