I traveled to St Louis for work for 3 days and was pouring rain. I ate at J. Bucks for lunch and dinner 2 days in a roll. Food is great, staff are friendly. Sorry to see it closing.

This place is hard to assess. I came here two different times and had two different experiences, both for lunch. The first time I came, we had a large party, they couldn’t give us a table and we had to put together two tables with bar like stools. They weren’t as comfortable as a table but will do. We ordered food and it took literally forever to come. The second time it was busy, we didn’t get a table and our food came pretty quick. It primarily is a meat place. I had the salmon spinach salad(minus the bacon). They give you a lot of spinach and the salmon was about 5 oz. The salmon was grilled perfectly, not dry or fishy, and still retained its juice. They have other fish options too, maybe I’ll try those another time.

Was great food. Tried the meat sampler board and the they were all great… however the Turkey was amazing. Not cooked like usual dry turkey. This preparation was outstanding.

Very nice service… The food is simply nothing special. Very expensive for what you get. Out of our party of 12 three people got stomach aches that night we are not sure what it was.

Don’t think the St Louis cheesesteak is that exciting. Boring and disappointing. Meat is grey and so so, fries are thin but extremely greasy. Not worth $ 15

I ended up eating here cause it was close to where I was working while in town. They have grass fed beef which I really appreciate. I had an amazing St. Louis cheesesteak sandwich. I think it was the best I’ve ever had. The meat was tender and generous and they put a very nice horseradish sauce on it along with banana peppers. The French dip was also very good. Lots of juicy meat and it will not leave you hungry. The staff was friendly and they have a good beer selection. Lots of t.v.‘s as well so if you’re a sports fan, you’ll be in heaven.

Went here to watch the NBA playoffs. The waitstaff was accommodating and changed the channel to the game. Yay! We had the wings, tasty and not skimpy. I would recommend it with their buffalo sauce.

Went here because of Unilocal reviews. I wanted to give the smoked wings a try… Glad I did they were awesome. sat at the bar, bartenders were attentive. I will definitely go back again. had a hamburger but the bartender suggested I try their smoked meats especially the brisket or sausage so I will have to go back again.

Previous experiences here had been«challenging» given the frequently cold reception at the entrance, but it’s since been dramatically improved and that small change makes a huge difference. The service otherwise is consistently excellent – wait staff is knowledgeable, friendly, communicative, and very accurate during busy hours. Prices still err a tad high for dinner, but for lunch it’s really very satisfying. Barbecue sauces are actually quite strong, though limited in their application given that your options tend to be just a meat board. Some expansion of this would be welcome.

Went here for Clayton Restaurant Week, and wasn’t all that impressed. I thought the filet oscar was going to be a real good value with app and dessert for $ 25, but the Filet was not mignon, it was a tenderloin and tasted more like a strip. I wouldn’t say it was bad though, but the polenta cake was a joke it was so bland. They shouldn’t have attempted this. The beet salad was ok and the dessert was really good. But that’s because it was from Hank’s and not their own. My girlfriend got the lobster bisque, and it wasn’t great either. The hostess wasn’t friendly at all and the waiter took way too long between visits. He also had to come back twice to ask what we ordered and how we wanted the meat cooked. Is there a rule against writing down the food order? This isn’t a place I would come back to.

As with most of the other reviews my wife and I just had a mediocre experience. The food was not outstanding but not worth complaining about. Just has a popular name associated with it. It will not be worth our trip of 35 mins to come back.

I was on a business trip to Clayton about 2 weeks ago and since this place was walkable from the Ritz we decided to give it a shot. The décor inside is very sports bar oriented with TV’s mostly everywhere. I went with the smoked wings along with a side of buffalo sauce. These wings were some of the best I have had(I have ate a lot of wings in my day). The buffalo sauce further complimented the smoky/charred flavor of the wings. Overall service and food was excellent I would definatly reccomend this place to anyone who will be in this area either for personal travel or business travel.

Not so great. Stood at entrance for ten minutes no hostess in site, bartender finally stopped chatting with other bartender and told somebody and they got a table going. Got the three meat board with sausage, pulled pork and brisket. Ordered a side salad instead of other choices because I’m watching my carbs. I told this to waitress as menu said to tell server any dietary restrictions. So, I did. Salad arrived covered in stale, bland croutons with some kind of pretzel bread. I ate around it and salad was ok tasting. It’s salad. Meat board arrived and I was ready to dig in. It came with cornbread and onion rings I didn’t order, not so hard to just not eat them but the actual disappointment was the meats. No big deal I can eat around carbs, just pointing it out because the server knew of my order and delivered something else. The brisket was terribly dry and chewy like shoe leather and I did not even try to finish it. The pulled pork was lying in a lot of fat, no smoke flavor but it sure did taste like it had been in a stainless steel steam pan warmer for a very, very long time. The sausage flavor was actually good but like the other meats it was just over room temperature and the cold kind of took away from what would have been the best of the three disappointing meats. Sever left my party of seven alone so long I was just about to go looking for her to pay the check when she showed up. She asked if I wanted a box when she saw the board and I told her I did not because the brisket was dry and chewy. She just said«oh» and vanished with my card for payment. Not somewhere I’d go again if I’m back in town but it is walking distance from the hotel. My advice is to just try some other place even if you have to pay a cab. Staff and kitchen seem to be phoning in the gig.

This is what I would call an upscale bbq place, at least in atmosphere. The service is its weak point, but a manager did step up and cover for our overworked waitress. The smoked wings appetizer was amazing but it took so long to come out that we were not charged for it. BBQ was tasty but arrived lukewarm and so was not as enjoyable as it could’ve been.

I was a part of a reserved party in the Joe Buck room. Service was solid, and the food was good, but not great. I had the meat board, which included a choice of 3 meats(4choices, pulled pork, brisket, turkey, or sausage). I went with turkey, sausage and brisket, which I would only regret one… Brisket was dry and the fat was on the tough side, so I would not recommend. Turkey was delicious and had great flavor as did the sausage. The cole slaw side was decent, but forgettable. The grass fed ribeye that my neighbor had looked excellent, as did some of the other entrees in the room.

Happened to be in St. Louis on business. We came here which happened to also be the opening night of the World Series. Luckily we arrived early and were seated right away before the game crowd arrived. Upon entering the smell of the food was incredible. It was one of those that I hoped the food would be as good as what I was smelling. I had the pulled pork board with onion rings as a side. The pulled pork was very good. The onion rings weren’t bad either. I would certainly eat hear again if in town.

Service was subpar. The staff was inattentive and scattered. It seemed like they tried and were almost there… Perhaps some training would be of benefit. I was asked to relocate to a different section of the bar within 10 minutes of sitting down. Apparently they had a large party that had blocked off a section of the bar. I understand and that’s fine, but don’t let me get comfortable, serve me a drink and then tell me to get out of the way. Not cool. Everyone else at the bar was put off as well. What put me over the edge was the seemingly large selection of bourbon(my fave) and the embarrassingly limited knowledge displayed by the bartenders. I asked for a list of bourbons(totally cool if you don’t have a list but at least be able to tell me what you have available) and was told that they had Dissarono… ummmm so far from a bourbon not even cute. Ok., so what else do you have? Balvenie? A great scotch but most definitely not a bourbon, Really guys? The food was fine, the atmosphere/facilities were nice but their staff needs some training to be able to meet expectations. Boo.

After a great day in Clayton, I decided to sit down with a few friends at J Bucks and have lunch. The wait staff was very friendly and professional, and we were seated right away. I ordered a buffalo chicken salad, which was large and delicious. The others I was with were a bit picky and ordered all kinds of «custom» entrees. The staff was able to keep up with my «picky» friends and gladly kept our drinks full. This was a great lunch, and at a cost I could be happy with. Definitely worth a try in Clayton.

The office monthly meeting. We ordered in using 569.DINE. Using 569. DINE: there is a $ 10 food minimum and a $ 5.50 delivery charge. If your order is more than $ 30, they automatically add a 10% gratuity. You order from restaurants offering this service based on the ZIP code of your delivery destination. There were six of us for this meeting. Orders were: #1 — Side salad with chicken tenders. Those chicken tenders were HUGE! She said they were good. It was a massive portion. But the breading didn’t stick to the chicken, so was that a problem of delivery time in steaming or a problem of the cooking? #2 — Buffalo Chicken Salad($ 13 for the full size). Chicken tenders tossed with buffalo sauce, blue cheese, black beans, avocado, tomato, corn relish and buttermilk ranch dressing. He liked it. #3 — Hamburger and French fries. I can’t elaborate, because I don’t know which burger she got. But she ate it and seemed to enjoy it. #4 — Side salad and Margherita pizza. She said it was wonderful. #5 — I forgot. I got the full-size Cobb Salad($ 13). Grilled chicken, ham, house-smoked turkey, bacon, egg, avocado, grape tomatoes, red onion, mixed cheeses with house vinaigrette. I ditched the house vinaigrette for bleu cheese dressing. This was a wonderful salad, but skimpy on the grape tomatoes. It could be just me, but I LOVE an abundance of grape tomatoes. The avocado was one strip. I cut it up so it could populate the salad. It was difficult to decide if the bleu cheese dressing was bleu cheese dressing. It was good, but I don’t believe it was the same bleu cheese dressing I got last time. All around, however, it was a successful office lunch meeting. And my salad lasted three more meals. I added more grape tomatoes and my own chopped up chicken breast.

Eh, I consider this restaurant a «hit or a miss» kind of experience. I came here at a work after party after having a lot of fun at Café Napoli. I had a blueberry martini for a first drink and it was very disappointing. The drink was way too bitter and it didn’t carry enough sweetness. We ordered appetizers, which consisted of mac & cheese, fried chicken fingers and regular fries. The chicken was excellent, very moist and tender. However, I could say that the mac & cheese was probably not the best I have had. I can actually make better mac & cheese out of the box, or home-made. For the price: the experience was not worth it. I consider Jack Buck and Joe Buck to be both St. Louis giants, but they completely did not create a home run with me with this restaurant. They desperately need to upgrade and improve their menus.
