AWFUL! Not sure what was worse the food that didn’t have the toppings as advertised, the horrid attitude of the staff, the price 14 bucks for 2 burgers and 1 medium Pepsi with no fries or the fact the food sat behind the counter for 15 minutes. We finally asked about our order and they handed us the bag that we had seen while we were at our table. I said are you kidding we’ve been sitting here the whole time nobody said the order was ready! All of the grumpy employees ignored me. We will NEVER go here again.

The only reason this gets one star is because that is the lowest option available. We stopped in for lunch on our way to Wenatchee on Sunday, May 15th. Bad decision. I don’t know what happened to this place, but they need to figure it out. It used to be a pretty okay local burger joint. We prefer to support local, home grown places over chain stores. Part of that is understanding that it may take a little longer to receive your order. However… half an hour for 2 «deluxe» cheeseburgers, 1 large fry, and 1 drink is absolutely ridiculous. I was on my way to cancel our order when our number was called. Should have stayed with my first instinct, and cancelled. I have never, ever seen such a thin hamburger patty in my life! Not to mention the cheese was almost burnt and the patty stuck half way out of the bun on my hubby’s burger. Greasy and gross. And the«large» fry barely filled a quarter of the bag with the tiny little cardboard tray inside. Last time we will stop in here. I would advise you stay away, too.

Nailbanger Here Again; We always are amazed when we see an establishment that is bullet proof and has survived since the 1950s, so we look for those kinds of places in lieu of the modern Chain places. Heres what we encountered. First its lunch time and we are the only people in the place the whole time we are there, First REDFLAG. We ordered a Corn Dog, Large French Fry and a Giant Deluxe Cheese Burger, No Drinks $ 14.76. The Service was so SSSLLLOOOWWW, Two people behind the counter and you can hear every word they said to each other. When we were summened up to get our order it was in a bag and she ask us if it was for here or to go, we said for here? Then the order was short the Corn Dog and she said she forgot it in the Fryer and it was burned, so we waited for another one 5 minutes later? Now lets talk about the food, the Burgers come on a French Roll with Meat, Cheese if ordered, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickle, Sweet Relish, Onion and Mayo $ 6.69 Really. The Relish is terrible. I ordered mine without Mayo and add Mustard. The first one she made behind the counter had Mayo, but the other gal caught it and so she redid it before it came out, but the Burger was cold by then. The 2 meat patties are the size of a regular McDonald Burger? Really The other topping were sparse at best. Am I missing Something? What is Giant Deluxe about this Burger? The French Roll was the best part of the Burger? The large fry was $ 3 and in the smallest tray I have ever seen Really, The Corn Dog was $ 2.79 Really. This place is a complete joke. Wild Horses could not get me back. The place was fiilthy and every table needed to be cleaned. Someone got an order to go and ate it in their Truck. Never saw the Bathrooms so can‘t comment, afraid to go in. Parking is around the building. I challenge all the have given this place a Thumbs up to prove it. I would have given this place a Negative 5 Star if possible. Yikes Terrible

This dump is ridiculously overpriced for the garbage they serve. I had an almost forty dollar bill for two people, and the food portions were less than henerous. The fries were thin, and soggy with no flavor. The deep fried mushrooms seemed to uhh ave been pulled early and were gross. Rhe chicken strip«meal» is a joke with three tiny nasty strips. But even more awful and horrendous was the poor cutomer service. The messy looking pot smoker kid who took my order, I belie e his name was Shayane, was so rude and unenthusiastic about being there it was ridiculous. He was so short and acted as if my questions were an inconvenience to him, and was annoyed when I ordered more things. Umm. hello? That’s what pays you idiot. I should have gone with my gut and avoided this dump.

I love a dive, but it has to at least be clean, this place is disgusting and the people that are working there don’t appear to care. Food is terrible as well, too many other good places to get a burger in town…

Shakes were good, but nothing special. The chicken strips were terrible frozen things with hardly any breading. The bacon deluxe was good but the patty’s are really thin… so get the giant bacon deluxe. Husband had the McGuire thinking their special should be something special but the bun was soggy, BBQ sauce had hardly any flavor and the grilled mushrooms were canned, not fresh. Won’t be coming back. Grandpa said the BLT was good.

I would not stop here again. Service was extremely slow. When we stopped they had no C02 so fountain sodas were not an option. Food is over priced compared to quality and presentation. The outside eating area was littered with trash from diners. The place has 3 windows, 2 walk up and 1 drive up. About 10 minutes after my order went to the window and asked my 2 non carbonated drinks. A woman asked for my number and repeated it back to me with a question. I told her that my order was taken before the guy she just served. She questioned the cashier who gave her a blank look and then proceeded to find our order. We were offered no condiments or apology. Opened the bag to find a not so special hamburger or grill cheese. Definitely would not recommend this place. Drive out of town a little further and go to Twin Pines. That was the place we were looking for but I could not remember where it was until we drove out of town! This place needs to take a lesson in how to run a restaurant from Twin Pines!

My boyfriend and his family have been going to this burger joint since they were kids, the last time we got food from this place the floor and the tables were dirty, the food was awful, and all I ordered was a pineapple shake and a grilled cheese, both of which tasted horrid! I don’t have phone service in this area so there was no way to check my bank account when I got home, but when I did I was charged $ 81.19 for TWO things. Not only is this place run by unprofessional, disgusting looking people, but I talked to the owner about it and he said he would fix it in the morning. I checked my bank account in the morning and the transaction had not been cancelled, I called to see what was the matter with that. They then told me that it would take 3 or so days to cancel, so I waited 3 days and now the transaction went through! What an annoying mess. They took down my credit card number and the expiration date too, and now I’m paranoid of credit card fraud. Super sketchy place, we will all never be eating there again even though my boyfriend’s family has been eating there for years.

I have been to McKean’s 3 times in the last 9 months. All 3 times the food was good and met my expectations. Yes they do take a little longer than the«fast food» chains but I look at it as they are cooking my order fresh and it is not«pre-cooked» waiting for me. If you read all the reviews it is clear there are people that like the place and will be back as it is with me and then there are ones that will not be back. My best advice is try it yourself. Like with any business you cannot please all the people all the time, but those that you do make happy, are return clients. I have had burgers, and today I had their BLT sandwich. It had nice amount of bacon along with fresh crisp lettuce and tomatoes. What I have not seen mentioned is the homemade Macaroni or potato salad. They are made fresh each day by the owner and they are SOOOOO good. The $ 1.39 for a small 1⁄3 cup serving was a little pricy but it is homemade and not made in bulk, so you gota give a little for homemade freshness. I gave it 4 stars only because most of the negative complaints did have one thing in common, it could use a really good cleaning. They should close for a week in the slow season and give it a thorough cleaning for the busy season, it will make it easier to keep cleaned the rest of the year. As for rude teenagers, they were not there, just 2 nice guys that were customer service friendly along with the owner. I say give this place a try, it is worth the couple extra dollars to get something different and made fresh to order.

We were here on February 13 this year on our way to Leavenworth. I’ve always seen this place and another down the road and figured this would be a great local place to give a try. In the end all I can say was we were very disappointed. We didn’t expect fast food, but did expect to get some good local food. The rolls that are mentioned that they use are fantastic, and the amount of fries is good as well. The mushrooms were also good. Though I think those are the only pluses I can give. What wasn’t so great was the fact that the Giant Deluxe burger was supposed to be a ½lb burger, it was not. There were two small patties which were near paper thin — I don’t know that I have ever seen burgers squished so thin. I wish I had taken a picture of it. We also had the Pastrami sandwich, this was equally disappointing, it had one thicker slice of pastrami on the sandwich(I wouldn’t even say it was that thick, but it was thicker than what you get a deli shop or the meat department at your local grocer). Even though it is a local place, there is no reason for it not to be clean — which it was not. The floors were dirty, there were no clean tables, you pretty much had to wipe it down yourself(always frustrating putting your hand on the table and finding something sticky). So although there were a couple good things, I would say overall it was not good. We certainly do not plan on coming back, and really hope the owners pay attention to the reviews of their restaurant, because it could be so much better.

We stopped here to grab food on our way to Leavenworth and we sat in our car at the drive through for 10 minutes and the employees didn’t even acknowledge us. My husband and I are pretty low maintenance and would have been patient had someone at least said hello and told us it would be a little while. We drove away hungry and frustrated. Never again.

Flashing Alert: If you want fast food, this is not the burger place for you. If you read Unilocal and go here looking for fast food, you only have yourself to blame. As another reviewer wrote, this is an old fashioned burger stand. It’s not — and does not attempt to be — anything else. Orders are made basically one after another. If you are there at a rush, you will wait a bit. If you are there at a lull, kick back and enjoy it. Food comes in brown bag, but portions — or at least our portions — were big. A lot of fries. More fish in the fish and chips that I expected. I’ve been through Cle Elum a few times the past year, and this is now a regular stop for me if they are open.

Appreciated the indoor AC seating, but not the employees’ super loud voices talking about their personal lives. Appreciated the unsweetened iced tea, but not the overly greasy onion rings.(I think there were onion scraps in there?) As for the Deluxe Cheeseburger… I opened the bun to find the thinnest burger patty I’ve ever seen. I think I’ve had thicker potato chips. Not worth the extra $ 2+ for the lettuce sprinkles and tiny tomato slice. My $ 10 could’ve been better spent.

Love the old school Burger Stand on the side of the road. Something lost in America these day. A must stop when I cross the mountain pass. Burger, fries and onion rings are always a must for the bag of treats. Now the real deal is there shakes. My favorite is the pineapple shake, but you decide for yourself. Support local business they need it!

We stop in almost every time we cross the mountains. The best place to stop if you have kids! Typical drive-in menu, with good burgers, foot long hot-dogs and picnic salads. Fries aren’t great — they could do home cut and probably make more money than frozen shoe-string. There is a small park like picnic area –shaded — more than enough room for kids to stretch out and play!

McKean’s is one of those burger joints you go to when you want a good burger and fries. It’s a total hole-in-the-wall type of place that serves awesome burgers, deep fried anything and is the only place I can find that still has Green River soda to buy. I also recommend ordering one of their shakes! They always hit the spot! At a decent price, you’ll get a nice sized burger, fries and a large shake. Whether you’re only passing through Cle Elum or you reside in Cle Elum, McKean’s is always a good choice.

We always stop here on the way through the pass. I have to admit their food and shakes are to die for! In addition there is a miniature park to relax and a water fountain for our thirsty dogs.

Disclaimer: This is my hometown burger joint and I fully admit that I am potentially biased. OK, McKean’s is a must-do when in Cle Elum. It’s one of those greasy little hole-in-the-walls that some folks may turn away from, but it is legendary in this little community. The staff are loyal(the day ladies have been there for centuries; the high school workers become adult, life-long customers) and they are committed to making sure that they make awesome food. Every flavour of milkshake you can imagine can be had, but the BEST thing there is the McGuire Special. This burger-on-French-bread is messy and drippy(eat it partially wrapped or it will fall apart) but it is the BEST burger I’ve ever had. I DREAM about this thing when I’m away from home and always make sure I have one(or more!) when I’m in the Homeland. It’s a cultural experience as much as a gastronomic one!

This place is an old fashioned roadside burger stand. There’s an indoor dining room as well as some outdoor seating. Delicious milkshakes are $ 3(good selection of flavors, from black berry and cherry to peanut butter and marshmallow); burgers, hotdogs, fries, onion rings etc. are also available. Not as quick as one of the fast food chains, but the goods are much better tasting and really hit the spot after a long day in the mountains!
