Great food. Great service. Love that the owner is also the chef and come out and talked to the customers. Tried there special and it was out of this world good.

I went to the High Hat Diner after reading the reviews here on Unilocal.I felt it was very close to the experience as described by others. I loved the chili verde. It was later in the day when we arrived and it took a while to get our food. The owner came out and apologized. He said he had run out of verde by the time we ordered, and had to make more. I thought the prices were a bit high, but I liked the food. I think we walked out with a $ 40 – 50 bill for two adults and three younger kids. This is about what it costs us to eat at the Olive Garden. I will go back, but won’t take the kids next time.

Best place to go for breakfast! Order the special, you won’t be disappointed! Friendliest staff and best tasting breakfast the area has to offer.

Trucker food. Sometimes it’s the ticket, but the conversation my brother and I planned on having was sidetracked by the waiters need to talk. Something about the«best» chile verde around??? Not sure where that claim was dreamt up… All in all, a decent dive breakfast joint. Just plan on smelling like a deep fryer for a day or two.

We got the Mexican Pozoli, a big breakfast plate(I forgot the exact name), kid’s French toast sticks, and corn beef & hash brown. We were given samples of the chilli verde. It’s not traditional chilli verde, more like an American version of it: I thought it was yummy, but can’t imagine eating a lot of it because it’s more pastey and creamy. The mexican pozoli I thought was over priced. The amount is not that much but the price is $ 6.99. I think the big breakfast plate was a good value. The hash brown that goes with the corn beef wasn’t crispy enough for me tho I understand people have different preferences. The French toast was done really well but the eggs felt like they were from a carton. I’ll come here again to try other things but it wouldn’t be a place I get excited to go to or really recommend to anyone.

The«best chili verde» is not that great. It has too much flour added to it. It tastes pasty. Too much talking by the owner. Please don’t interrupt a meal for ten minutes, while my food gets cold. It is just rude. I can appreciate the friendly demeanor, but I like my food hot. $ 15 for breakfast is a bit ridiculous at a mom and pop place.

We would give this place a 2 – 3 star rating. It’s really smokey, I’m guessing from the deep fryer. You’ll smell like greasy oil when you leave. The service was not the best, although they were busy. They gave us «2» chips w/their chile verde on them, quite good! We had the Dannahs hash browns, French toast, pancakes with a side bacon, 2 small oj’s and a milk. That came to about $ 30. The French toast, pancakes juice were pretty good. Dannahs hash browns were swimming in grease and the bacon was greasy, not dabbed with a paper towel or anything. We probably won’t go back. Some of their other items might be good, we just didn’t really have the best experience.

The Hi Hat is a quaint mom n pop sort of place. I decided on a build your own omelet and Ronaldo potatoes. Both here excellent. Service was prompt, courteous and efficient. Next visit, I try the breakfast tower.

The verde was excellent. Served on top of hash browns stacked with biscuits, country fried steak and three eggs. I would definitely recommend trying for a different breakfast experience.

Very friendly owner, though sometimes too friendly, always greets me when I go. They have a super yummy chili verde that they let you sample when you sit down. All the food I’ve had so far has been really great from their biscuits and gravy to their omelets. Expect to pay $ 8 – 10 a person.

Omg! This is the new place to go for breakfast. My family and I are big Sunday breakfast fanatics. We have tried almost every place in davis county. High hats food and service blows all of them out of the water. Tamale tower is amazing and is less than 9 dollars for the huge portion you get. I highly recommend this place.

The owner is very nice and welcoming. Really funny and great with kids :) the food is really good, I had chile verde omelet and it is absolutely delicious, fried eggs are slightly on the greasy side, BUT I am definitely coming back again. It was a good experience overall.

We just moved here from Chicago and we were looking for a good ol’ dive diner breakfast. I googled up diners and was pretty much given the choice of Denny’s and High Hat. The clear choice was already High Hat, but after reading the reviews I was excited to try it out. The reviews sounded great, and let’s be honest a place that’s offering up a 50’s style diner atmosphere and chile verde had to be a hit! We were not let down at all. The food was absolutely delicious! The walls had awesome movie and music memorabilia and they played a great mix of 50’s/early 60’s music. I had french toast, and it was so amazingly fluffy and delicious. I ate every bite. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak tower smothered in chile verde and it looked out of this world. He didn’t break to say a word during his meal, just went to town on it! He said it was so delicious and something different. The owner took care of us and was so incredibly wonderful. I felt like I was a guest in his own home. His conversation was pleasant. You could tell he put a lot of love into his food. We will for sure be coming back, I would recommend it to anyone looking for good food in a welcoming environment.

By far the best breakfast I’ve had in a while. The pancakes were so delicious and the Chili Verde was to die for. My boyfriend had the biscuits and gravy and he said they were the best. We will definitely be coming back.

Went there after reading all the reviews last weekend and it didn’t disappoint. We sampled the chile verde and I was sold. I got the chicken fried steak and eggs tower smothered in chile verde. Really good and too much to finish so had it the following morning. Don’t let the outside of the building fool you, there really is a restaurant in there. Before we left the owner came out to greet us and ask us how it was. We replied great and then asked about his pozole, which he said was great and went and got some for us to try. Another winner! We took some home as a take out for later.

The food is delicious. I always get the Verde, even though it’s not green, it’s so good! The owner and Chef is a wonderful person who makes the experience enjoyable. Our waitress was new, and I don’t think she had ever been a waitress before because she didn’t know what she was doing. But the Owner took care of us and everything was great. I can’t say enough about how good the food is. I find the prices very reasonable to the portion size, and quality of the food. I do have to admit the food isn’t necessarily pretty, but the taste makes up to the lack of grace.

I had eaten here previously and was not impressed. Once I read the reviews on Unilocal I thought that maybe I had remembered incorrectly so I went to try it again. The waitress sat us without menus and then didn’t know prices of the specials. After that she failed to inform me about extra charges on items that she recommended. The prices were high for the food offered. EXTREMELY high if you look at the kids meals. $ 3 – 4 and they consisted of a smallish pancake with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry cut in half for one of them and then 1 piece of French toast cut into pieces for the other. Seriously?!? $ 3 – 4 for that??? Food was mediocre but not the worst I’ve ever had or it’d be getting 1 star. The owner tried asking me how it was and I answered that it was«ok» and he got quite annoyed. I mentioned that my food was dry and that there should have been more sauce and he then goes Oh, so you like my sauce, we’ll that’s a compliment! Being optimistic is great but so is actually listening to your customer who’s willing to actually voice their opinion to you.

Talk about a Tardis(The inside being completely different from what you expect when you look at the outside)!! I think we have ourselves a little breakfast/brunch/lunch gem. Come for the Chile Verde(there is a whole menu page dedicated to it), but try everything else too! Ron — the owner — is a friendly and affable restaurateur. He’ll tell you anything you want to know(and more) about how he makes his food from scratch and how he makes it differently from what you might expect. The deducted star(this kills me, but I have to do it…) is for the coffee. Drinkable, but not the best.

It is such a pleasurable experience eating here because Ron makes you feel like you have come home for a comforting home cooked meal. He takes such care to ensure that your dining experience is a pleasant one. I felt like part of the family, not just another diner. I have passed by the restaurant for years because it does look like a dive from the outside. But it is very clean and decorated inside. I have gone twice this week… took my husband with me today. I have tried the Chile Verde breakfast burrito and the corned beef hash. The Chile Verde is as wonderful as everyone has written here. My husband had the Mexican Scramble and was quite pleased. Very generous portions and everything tastes so fresh. The menu is pretty extensive, so it is going to take me some time to try it all. But, I will be back… again and again!
