The front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. I had a couple of atypical requests while there, and she went out of her way to help. Room was nice, but smelled of smoke despite it supposedly being non smoking. The wifi was easy to set up and reasonably fast, but not enough to stream hi def video. Breakfast was very good. Hotel is very convenient to airport and MacDill AFB. Overall a good stay for the price.

The staff was great, simple fresh breakfast, and very clean rooms. Great hotel for the price.

The rooms are standard Fairfield, though perhaps a bit larger than the rooms I normally see in the brand. Extremely convenient to the St Pete airport and the businesses that are in the small industrial park not too far away. We had a late check-in(it was after 1 am) and the night clerk was very friendly. I wanted to prepare a bit for my customer meeting at 8 am the next day, but I couldn’t get the Wi-Fi to work. Oh well, off to bed I went and set my alarm a bit early. The next morning, both my boss & I complained about the lack of Wi-Fi so that they could check on it, but were scolded by the desk clerk for not calling them to report it. Hello, it was nearly 2 am. I wanted to sleep… not bicker on the phone with tech support. She said she’d report the problem but since we weren’t in the rooms to replicate it she couldn’t promise that they would fix it. I still couldn’t get it to work the next night, so I grabbed my laptop and headed to the lobby. Oddly enough, as soon as I walked out the door to my room, I had great signal. I thought it was because I was at the very end of the hotel(room 100) but after my boss had a few conversations with tech support he found out that the wifi is only for the lobby. They apparently have wired access in the rooms but they don’t provide the cables. Who travels with an ethernet cable in this day and age? My old stand by in Durham, a La Quinta, only has wired access in some of the rooms(the wireless is a bit weak there) but at least they provide the cables! I found that if I sat on a specific part of my bed, I could get enough signal to surf the web(although slowly) but not nearly enough signal to keep my VPN up. So I sat in the lobby for a few hours to get some reporting finished. Housekeeping was fine. No problems to report. I do hate how the bathroom door when open covers have the side of the bathtub. Just a pet peeve of mine. Breakfast wasn’t the best. The OJ tasted like Tang. I’ve had many a Fairfield breakfast and this was by far the worst OJ I’ve tasted. We headed to Starbucks one day instead. There’s nothing particularly wrong with this hotel other than the odd internet, but we’ll probably try another hotel the next time I need to be down there. There are a ton of hotels up and down the Ulmerton stretch for similar money, so I’m betting I can get something nicer for the same amount of money.
