Hilton Garden Inn Cleveland Downtown

Safety Alert! Women traveling alone, this hotel is directly across the street from an active methadone clinic. I cannot recommend it.
Additionally, they charge for parking and breakfast and are .5 miles from everything but a stadium. The room appointments are antiquated at best.
The staff was nice enough but for the money, location, and… safety… You can do far better if you have to go to Cleveland.

If I could rate 0 stars I would. Worst hotel experience ever. 1^st off there’s no free breakfast and they charge $ 16 to park when it should be totally free. I check in to my room, go in bathroom… covered in what looked like sand or coffee grinds of some sort. Call concierge & they arrive and say ‘oh it’s a plumbing issue, you may have to change rooms’. While waiting for them to come up to look at it, I attempt to turn thermostat down and when my finger touched it… it broke into pieces. So it’s on to room #2. Sink looks good, air works. So I unpack everything and go down for a bite to eat @ in hotel restaurant (don’t get the burger-​greasy as could be) and lay on bed to unwind. Turn tv on… nada. Call concierge again.
Guy comes in and says gimme about 15 minutes (poor English so I think that’s what he said) to program another card. Comes back, still not working. The man tells me (again with poor English so I think) that he gets non stop calls about Tv’s not working.
After fooling with it for a bit, it’s beyond repair and there are no more backup devices and that I will have to change rooms. AGAIN!
So I’m livid, speak to manager and get assigned a 3^rd room. If my work wasn’t paying for this trip of 3 days & had this been my own I would’ve been gone already. Instead, the manager says he will add some points into my Hilton account for future use. Whippee
Bottom line = you can do much, much better for hotels in this price range (like free breakfast) and area. Never again!

Arrived before midnight on Saturday — we were given a city side room on the third floor with a view of Progressive Field, but like a previous reviewer, we were near the elevator Which was the loudest piece of machinery I’ve ever attempted to sleep next to. Additionally the blackout curtains did not function properly, allowing a small sliver of sunlight to produce a magnificent glare directly on my face at six o’ clock in the morning. My needy fiancé took a two-​hour shower at maximum heat, and because there was no fan in the bathroom, I was trapped in a humid muggy hell-​hole until I attempted to abscond to the casino. Upon further inspection of the room, I noticed portions of the ceiling were crumbling in on us, furthering my claustrophobic suspicion of our accommodations. We were told we would have to stay in the room that evening because all the other rooms were being used.
On Sunday, however, they graciously moved us to the top floor, to a room as far away from the elevator as possible. The room’s fan worked, the remote was legible, and the Bible had not yet been stolen.
The bar had a decent happy hour, though the bar tender was a bit icy. The pool seemed okay, and by okay, I mean there were no turds floating around. The staff was very friendly, but the first room was so terrible it’s hard to give them more than a ³⁄₅. Not sure if we were put there because we used a third party booking site or because of our arrival time. It was basically unlivable though, so unfortunately cannot recommend this hotel without strong caution. First night was 2/​5, second night was ⁴⁄₅ so — 3 stars!
PS – as many other reviewers have noted, they unceremoniously charge you $ 16/​night to park which is kind of rude/​absurd because it’s Cleveland.

As a diamond member i expected more from a hilton property. this is a poorly taken care of, old, tired property. they gave me a smoking room –they said they had no others. They then gave me a hearing impaired room with beds that felt as if they were made of plywood instead of mattresses– they said they had no other rooms. They next moved me to a handicap room where i am now as i write this review… no where else to move. The front desk manager was polite and offered me a breakfast coupon. As i write this review the fire alarm just went off and the fire engine is pulling up. The front desk says the maintenance people sprayed disinfectant in the air system and it set off the alarm. REALLY??? get me out of here. i would not recommend staying here.
…as a follow up, the morning of check out, kudos to the GM who personally spoke to me. We had a very good conversation about my concerns. i feel comfortable that he will work on the identified issues. i greatly appreciate the good customer service!

Overall, low value and experience leaves a lot to be desired. It is disappointing to leave this review as I having been satisfied with Hilton brand hotels. In summary, I would not recommend staying here unless you get a extremely low price and strictly going to the game and no other options are available.
Pros:
–Front desk staff during evening check-​in was cheerful and helpful
–large suite with mini fridge & coffeemaker
Cons:
–room directly across laundry room with no door. Who thought this was good idea?
–sink was clogged. If the sink was cleaned properly after last guest, this could not have been missed.
–bathroom counter had some grey gooey stuff on it.
–extremely outdated (see pics-​even mercury thermostat instead of electronic, old carpet with stains and smell, old a/​c units that rattle when on, etc). This room needs major TLC.
–breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the quality is far below the quality of even sister hotels Hampton Inn which provides complementary breakfast were is this is $ 11.95 plus tip. Also, monetary it is not a big deal so I didn’t ask for a refund, but an unauthorized tip of about $ 1 was added to my room charge for breakfast. Weird. As I mentioned, not a bank breaker, and normally, I would leave a lot more than that anyway, but this being cafeteria style (you sit, serve yourself) and after I had a very unpleasant experience with service there (not detailed above), I was making a statement.
–3 minutes before my scheduled pick-​up by Hotel shuttle at 8:30am front desk staff (different from the ones that scheduled my pick-​up/​drop off locations evening before) called my room to tell me that shuttle doesn’t go to my drop off location. I said it must be a mistake as during reservation and previous evening the front desk staff indicated this is included in their drop off location. I checked the website which confirmed my location to be within their advertised drop off parameters. However, hotel staff on the phone would not budge. I said it was bad timing as this should have been resolved previously not 3 minutes before my scheduled shuttle departure. The hotel staff said: «well, I am telling you now». Also, I checked the map in detail, and my location was only 1 block from where Hilton van could go, so they could have easily at least could offer to drop me off where they could with option to walk 1 block.
–paid parking, but no security or valet.

We just left a weekend stay here at the Hilton Garden Inn. Overall, we had a great experience. The staff was so nice and helpful. Greg at the front desk was wonderful. We called around 10:30am to see if we could check in before 3pm and he made that happen for us– no questions asked. The woman on the phone when my husband called was also great although my husband doesn’t remember her name. But he told her it was our anniversary and she had a cold bottle of champagne waiting for us when we got to our room– free of charge! This is a perfect location for someone going to Progressive Field or The Q. It’s not too far of a walk to a Browns game either. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the bed in our room was pretty hard but others may like that. Oh! And we kept hearing this weird, loud noise ALL THE TIME and couldn’t figure out what it was. We finally learned it was the elevator going up and down. I would suggest asking to be further away from the elevators.

An incident happened during the night audit managers shift — when the issue was brought to his attention he was rude and dismissive — I wouldn’t recommend arriving late so you can avoid him.

Convenient location for a ballgame/​downtown with easy parking. Staff is very friendly and what you would expect from a Hilton. Room was badly outdated. Tiny TV, no radio of any kind, very small bathroom. It was like stepping back to 1985 inside this room! We stayed at the Hampton down the street a couple of months ago and will do that next time as this place badly needs an update.

The hotel is reasonably priced for the location. Though parking is $ 16, which they do not tell you in the listing on Priceline. So in staying here we had to pay for both parking and breakfast, which is complimentary in similarly priced hotels nearby.
All staff were professional and very friendly, and the property is very well-​maintained.
It was nice to have Keurig, microwave, and fridge right in the room.
However, my husband and I were unable to sleep due to the horrible memory foam mattress and the curtains on the windows that do not close. (Why on Earth would you make curtains simply for show? The sheers are NOT adequate.)

Pros:
–Large hotel with all of the amenities that come with that such as a large dining area, a sports bar, a pool and jacuzzi, nice gym
–Location (right across the street from Jacobs Field for Indians game, the Q for Cavs games, and a short walk to all the restaurants in the «Gateway» District
–Nice, reasonably priced room with King sized bed.
Cons:
–Our room was right next to the elevator and it was LOUD. The elevator running all night was LOUD. And being a big hotel, the elevators run a lot… The kids whining as parents brought them home way past their bedtime were LOUD. The drunk frat boys coming up from the sports bar at 1 am were LOUD. It made it pretty horrible to sleep. I would definitely make a point to ask NOT to be by the elevators. Thats generally a good rule of thumb for any hotel, but particularly for this one.
–Large bed wasn’t the most comfortable.
–Location (I know I said its a pro above, but if you aren’t interested in going to a sports game and its too cold to walk, which is a lot of the time in Cleveland, there isn’t much around this hotel. A Subway and sketchy looking sushi spot across the street and a diner a few blocks down. Not the prettiest area either).
Parking is $ 16 a day for hotel guests.

I am normally a huge fan of the Hilton. However, my stay at this Hilton was less then satisfactory. The staff was unfriendly. There was absolutely nothing complimentary that made our stay better then any other place we could have stayed for much cheaper. AND most importantly, the shower head was covered in black mold to compliment the ripped up and torn shower curtains. I will not be coming back.

This hotel was reasonably priced and had a nice, clean look. I liked that it was located downtown within walking distance of many other businesses. Parking was available in a lot. A free shuttle bus took us around town. We ate breakfast in the on-​site restaurant. The waitress explained in a confusing way how the breakfast buffet worked.

This place. Front desk is nice. However there was shit left in our fridge and a pair of glasses laying on the floor by the bed.

Pillows and the sheets at this hotel are fantastic the room is clean and very clean. We came Here for a conference and the food that they serve at the conference was very good. Plus the bartender had a heavy hand with the alcohol :-)

The hotel was clean and the pool had a handicap lift. The staff is friendly. The reason I can’t give this 5 stars is because they charge a large parking fee and don’t offer any complimentary breakfast or hot drinks. For the price, I feel they really should.

I enjoyed our stay here.
The staff was super helpful and friendly at 10 pm, when we first checked into the hotel. The bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was clean and a decent size.
The area around the hotel has a few stores and restaurants, but if you want more choice there are restaurants about a 5 min car ride away across the bridge. Be sure to check out the local farmers market in that area too. The Hilton is within walking distance of Progressive Field, the Quickens Loans Arena, restaurants, bars, and the casino. The hotel is located on a quiet street so there’s not much noise or foot traffic at night.
If I visit Cleveland again I’d go back to the Hilton Garden Inn.

Very nice hotel, and perfectly located to downtown Cleveland. Witihin walking distance to all major ball parks/​stadiums. Easy walking distance to the major bar/​restaurant district. Probably would seem like a long walk in the dead of winter but otherwise very manageable. They have a shuttle service that will take you anywhere within the city so that is very convenient. Friendly staff, and helpful. Rooms nice and clean hotel. Large hotel for a Hilton Garden Inn. Plan to stay here again on my next visit.

We only stayed here for 1 night passing through on our way from Niagara Falls to Chicago but where happy with the choice.
Cons:
Nice large rooms with comfy beds.
Very friendly and helpfull staff.
Free parking.

Its easy to walk down to the Rock n roll hall of fame from this hotel wich was the only and the best thing about this city that was not one of our favourite places on the trip.
Ordered a burger at the hotel restaurant and when i was lifting the top bread to put ketchup on the burger i noticed a long black hair on the bacon slices?! Pretty disguisting and the first time this has happened but the waiter handled it good and gave me a new burger (free) and also gave me a free complimentery dessert. I couldnt be angry after that.
Dont think i will visit this town again but if i would i think id choose this place again.

Friendly front desk staff, clean, decent food on site and better places to eat within walking distance. Yes they charge for parking. So does every other downtown hotel in America. HGI hotels are built for business travel, so thIs hotel had everything I wanted in my room: free WiFi that actually works, power outlets at your fingertips to charge stuff, bright lights so you can read, and a hot shower. My only knock on my room is they have an adjustable mattress similar to Sleep Number where you can adjust firmness with a dial, but mine didn’t work so you kind of sank into a pit.
Tip: odd numbered rooms have a view of the freeway. Even numbers have a view of downtown.
All in all, a good stay. There was a high school marching band staying here my first night and I never heard them once I was in my room. That’s pretty good.

I don’t know what the heck is going on at or around this Hilton Garden Inn — but the smell outside around the hotel is very unpleasant. A noxious exhaust like fume smell permeates the neighborhood and the hotel.
After checking in — I could strongly smell it in my hotel room. This also occurred during my last stay here. It was so bad during my trip this week that I checked out a couple of hours after checking in and found another hotel to stay at several miles away.
I really like Hilton Garden Inns — but until this issue goes away, I won’t be staying at this hotel again.
