Looking for a bar that’s close to the AMC Theater at Ridge Park Square to grab some cheap drinks before your movie? Ding, ding! This is your place. It’s a bar in a seedy strip mall in Old Brooklyn. But my guy and I tend to look for weird places to drink, so this was right up our alley. However, upon entering The Tavern we noticed right away it wasn’t quite as divey as we thought it was going to be. In fact, it was a newer bar. The Good: — Cheap drinks! $ 4 for Jose Cuervo on the rocks. — It’s close to the movie theater if you’ve got time to kill. Yea, sure – there are a few chain restaurants over there, but their drinks are pricey. And the AMC Theater’s drinks are even more expensive. — It’s not a chain! — Takes credit cards — ample parking Other than that, the clientele was, like, the opposite of what you’d see… say, on W.25th? Here’s a better picture: Besides us, everyone at the bar was drinking Bud Light, Miller Lite or Coors Light. They had a juke box that took credit cards, however, there was a steady mix of country and hip-hop – literally one song after the other. Surprisingly enough the TV nearest to us had on America’s Got Talent and not sports. Even stranger than that, I found that watching any kind of «talent» show on mute makes it way more fun.

Has a nice neighborhood feel to it. Old fashioned long bar with a foot rest. Not a big choice of beer taps but the happy hour times and days are great! Goes until 9pm. Plenty of TVs. Food was very good. Saturday is steak night. Nice portion of meat and cooked just right. Charred on the outside, tender on the inside. Served with mashed potatoes and a good sized salad. No iceberg wedge BS. Service was friendly and prompt. Yes, I’d go back again and try something else off the menu. Or just hang out and have a few beers.
