Okay, so this is what you think about when you envision a Ma and Pa kinda train car diner. If you’re a cloned Kardashian wannabe or basic b*tch princess, don’t bother walking in here. The tablecloths are plastic and the décor hasn’t been changed in decades most likely. However, in my personal opinion, that’s the charm in it. It isn’t a place for uptight, pretentious snobs. You can tell there are regulars here. This is a place for people who want real diner food at a reasonable price. There is a large salad bar which I’ve opted out of. I just wanted a sandwich and fries. I’m sitting next to a table of French Canadians, so obviously they heard about this place somehow and wanted good ol’ American food. The service is very friendly and I’m glad I decided to try this place. Worth a try.

I have been to Grandpa’s numerous times over the past few years because, let’s face it, the food is darned good, the wait staff is always friendly and attentive, and you can’t beat the early bird specials, particularly the prime rib which is top notch(when it comes out hot which it doesn’t always, it’s sometimes room temp). The food and service are what keep me coming back but I have to say that even those things may not be enough to keep my business anymore. The owners have got to renovate and clean this place up. The foul smell of mold, mildew and 30+ year old stained, sticky carpet is just soooo off-putting, as is the nasty, tacky«vinyl» table coverings, the filthy window blinds, moldy window sills, dirty fake flowers, the super tacky, dusty knick knacks for sale in the lobby. Every time I walk into the building I want to douse it with a bucket of bleach before I sit down… it’s that bad. It’s clear to me why the lighting in this place is so bad, it’s so customers can’t clearly see the dirt and mold. I ate there about 3 weeks ago and spent the whole time staring at a filthy window blind and moldy window sill, wondering to myself«if this is how the front of the restaurant looks, what the h**l must the kitchen be like where they cook my food??».It just gets worse each time I eat here. I really, really hope the owners of Grandpa’s read this review, take it to heart and clean this place up because the food and service is great, it could be a real hidden gem if they would clean it up and spend some $$ on repairs.

The Rib Eye steak and the Prime Rib were Worth writing home about. I recommend the Nebraska beef.

This is becoming the go to place for prime rib! Love the Nebraska flair of the steak and always content with the service and quality of the food. This place screams with personality and continues to get a thumbs up from the folks that I take or tell about as well as me!

I’d never been to Grandpa’s before two weeks ago, and I’ve already been back a second time. The salad bar is SO good and everything is fresh. Whoever cautioned you not to judge a book by its cover had it right, but the food is spot on. And Dawn is an outstanding server.

The place looks really sketchy but the locals love it! You eat in an old train car which is cool, the rest of he place looks like a train going through a rock cave from the outside. there are a bunch of stray cats outside that apparently live there and watch you eat :) the salad bar is great– and free with meals as long as you don’t leave waste– if you do they charge $ 2. The steaks are good, as well as the burgers! They are known for their prime rib. The gift shop area is really weird but I didn’t go there to shop. :) the restaurant is definitely worth the stop.

Sucks more than anything that I suggested grandpas crap house for a family birthday dinner. Being that I’ve been a server before, I understand how things work and being busy(weeded) can slow you down. This is no excuse for the terrible service that my family received. I can’t speak for everyone’s food but seeing how bad a simple burger was I can’t even imagine what the rest was like. As for everyone that has previously said anything about it smelling like death, it might be that the bathrooms are 5ft from the salad bar and it’s this way from day 1. It also smells like death being that it’s been open for at least 30 years and it shows, I don’t think they’ve done a single thing to renovate this place after it’s grand opening. Oh and when you order a burger and try to tell your waitress the toppings, she tells you«I’ll worry about that later», that’s when I should have walked out knowing it was all going down hill from that point on. Finally when the food shows up I receive a plain bacon cheese burger with 0 toppings, I then ask about the toppings since I was never asked what I wanted on my burger(even after I had tried to ask for them earlier) She proceeds to pass out everyone’s food and drops the top half of the burgers bun on the ground. After I finally tell her, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, mayo and mustard she walks away to get the top half of the bun and condiments. 5 – 10 minutes later she brings a plate with every burger topping someone could ask for on a big plate for me to share with the other guy that got the exact same burger as myself. We didn’t want onions or tomatoes, so if she was going to just toss a bunch of crap on a plate for us to dig through, why wouldn’t she have just done this in the first place?! Now that my burgers room temperature I finally got to bite into it, it was like biting into a well over cooked dry tasteless burger that was reheated and left out. I asked her for some ranch when she came back, she then tells me that they have some at the salad bar and that if I’d like some I’m more than welcome to go get some that’s across the restaurant.(she has to walk by this salad bar when she comes out if the kitchen) Absolutely mind blown on how terrible the experience here was and know that they’re getting 1 star as 0 stars isn’t an option. You couldn’t pay me to come back and I will bash this place any chance I get as I’d hate for anyone else to experience this overpriced joke of a restaurant. Also know that I made this Unilocal account just so I could warn everyone else about this place.

Excellent, always good, best salad bar around, with 80 different items of fresh food. Lunch is inexpensive. We will definitely go back.

Just ate here for the first time! I will admit that I had my doubts based on the looks of the place on the outside, but my experience was great! AMAZING steak, with nightly specials and not too crazy prices. Not to mention the salad bar was really great-I could have made a meal out of just the salad! Don’t judge a book by it’s cover– this place surprised me! Also as far as the previous smell comments-maybe they have since fixed the problem, because the only thing I smelled was steak! Yum!

A quaint Florida atmosphere, charming in an old Florida way though it was dingy inside and had an interesting odor of old stuff which we had been collected from various knick knack joints in garage sales all of which was for sale. service and friendliness was excellent salad bar was fresh and had large selection. I had the blackened chicken with baked potato it was a boneless breast I would’ve preferred it on the on the bone. unfortunately upon entering one notices a stale odor, a mixture of danknass and old carpeting type smell. this part of Cocoa Florida has very little to choose from not sure if I can offer an alternative. I won’t be going back.

Just in today and had a great lunch. I don’t know what people are talking about with smells, I smelled good food at that was it. Yes the décor is old fashioned but I was there to eat, not judge the knick knacks. Quiet place not full of tourists.

Someone made the remark that I should have had less drinks. No one at our table had alcohol. Interesting. Maybe the owners remark

We have been here multiple times and have always ordered the prime rib and the great 2 for 1 drink specials. With that comes the salad bar with lots and lots of selections. So for those of you that give this place bad marks, READ what they specialize in, steaks, a fresh complete salad bar and homemade soup. Early Bird specials, nightly specials, 2 for 1 drinks on well drinks, wine, and draft. The prices are great and the greeter needs to get a personality, she has never been very friendly. The wait staff are always great. The $ 2 charge for wasting food is a little strange but I have seen people in restaurants where they pile on large quantities of food on their plate and eat like a bird and waste the rest. So yes I understand why they say that. The place has been around since 1979, so I’m confused about all the bad reviews. Anyhow, I will continue to get their specialties and continue to enjoy good food at a great value.

This is by far the best deal in Cocoa! 80 item salad bar with daily lunch specials. Wednesdays are my favorite! For 6.99 salad bar soup all you can eat with sirloin beef tips and mashed potatoes and gravy. Any place that has been open for 34 years must be doing something right! A lot of things right in my professional opinion. All the bad reviews below should and need to be over looked. Ask for Jamie . Cant beat grandpas meat!!!

This is — by order of magnitude — the nastiest restaurant I’ve ever dined in. Forget the food(above average) or the service(decent enough) and focus on the skank. It was truly as assault on all senses(and that was /before/I went to the men’s room.) the décor was an absolute nightmare. The lighting was like a prison. Way too loud. And don’t get me started with the smell. if you’re a fan of John Waters flicks, you’ll love this place. Otherwise it’s best to avoid this spot at any cost.

Smells like urine. Prime rib flavorless and overcooked. Very nice waitress named Michelle who took our table after we had been ignored by others. Salad bar is nasty — temperatures have GOT to be wrong. Bathrooms are like a fish camp — smelly, old, worn. When was the last time the health department inspected here? Cave/dining car building is bizarre. We only ate here because we were exhausted. Big notice on menu that a $ 2 «waste charge» will be applied if you don’t finish your plate from the salad bar. WHA??? The boy who brought us our menus was nice and I thought it was cool that he helps out at the family restaurant. I was sure to tell my friends at the weekend event I was attending nearby not to go here, and I would never recommend it to anyone. Yuck.

This place is nasty. It’s super grungy, infested with filthy and attitude-filled employees who don’t show much attention to their customers, and the food had me pukin up a storm 2 hours after I left. Salad bar SUCKED, and their mash potatoes tasted like what cat piss smells like. Worst. experience. ever.
