Hermine’s Old World Confections

Handmade marzipan, rich chocolates, Black Forest cake and tortes plus a few authentic German clocks, dolls, etc. for gifts. This was my first visit after seeing an ad in the paper. Owner is on premises, baking and welcoming everyone to her store. She stuffed my hubby and friend full of samples. We will now bring all guests here! And Black Forest cake is going to be our treat for any special occasions! True excellence.

All the treats here are homemade! You feel like you just walked into a small shop in Germany, everything is VERY authentic. The owners are local or at least have been here for about 50. years now and work hard to bring a quality product from Germany to Coeur d’ alene…

In all honesty, I’d give Hermine and her confections a solid 10 star rating if I could! This is one of those super rare, 100% authentically European shops with a truly caring, incredibly talented baker who’s also the vendor and always on premises — what’s not to adore?!
Hermine is a very warm, welcoming lady who’ll greet you with arms wide open and stuff you full of the most yummy samples (these are essentially full size treats, to boot!).
Her marzipan is unlike anything I’d ever had (this coming from a self-​professed marzipan expert — I love it and have had it in all parts of the country)… it’s exceptionally fresh and luscious.
If you have some preconceived notions about what marzipan is, or have been turned off it by some past experiences, you NEED to give Hermine’s marzipan a shot anyway… it’s just a different category altogether; you’re practically guaranteed to love it!
Besides, while she specializes in marzipan, she does carry a number of other items, including handmade truffles and all sorts of pies, cookies, and pastries.
This is the kind of shop you want to go out of your way to support. I know I’ll be here weekly… looking forward to chatting with Hermine, and tasting more of her deliciously unique handmade goodies!

Talk about a find, Hermine’s old World Confections is all about homemade chocolates, cookies, cakes and marzipan made in the traditional German way. This is a very small store that is easy to miss if you are not looking for it. When you walk in you will find a pleasant proprietor who will offer all sorts of wonderful samples to try. Look around and you will find fresh chocolates and cookies, intermixed with cuckoo clocks, wooden toys and Bavarian specialties. This place is well worth finding and supporting.
