There are two watering holes in Colfax and the Railhead Saloon is not the one you want to go to. Although it’s your typical dive bar, we should have been forewarned by the plaque on the wall stating«Beware of Attack Bartender.» After my boyfriend and I had two drinks, we ordered a third and that’s when the barmaid turned into«attack» mode and demanded we prepay for any further drinks. We were a bit awestruck. Was it because it was evident that my pours were so weak that I had to order a double that offended her? My boyfriend paid her with a 100 bill and questioned why we were served two drinks but were required to prepay for a third. Her response? «This is a cash up front bar and if you don’t like it you can go up to the Red Frog.» That is exactly what we did. Please see my review on the Red Frog.

Stuck in Coalfax because Highway –80 is closed? The Railhead Saloon is your oasis to pass the time. The Railhouse defines a dive bar. The place was half full of locals at 12:00pm, and everyone knew each other well. Drinks are very cheap– try $ 3.50 for ALL their beers, including a nice hefewisen on tap. The Railhouse has a sweet pool table located in the center area of the bar, and it only costs $.50 cents to play! There is also a electronic dart board in the corner that I’m sure is from a few decades past. We posted up in the bar for 4 hours. We were well-received by the locals, and I look forward to visiting the place for a beer again sometime(although preferably on my own accord, not because of a snowed in highway!)
