I love this place. The Phillies are fantastic, the steak sandwich is awesome as well. They have fresh cut fries that come in a very generous portion size. I’ve never gotten anything here that wasn’t really tasty. I am always disappointed though because I’ve only caught the gooey butter cake one time. It’s the stuff that dreams are made of. The only complaints I have is that it’s always so crowded, loud and the tables are packed in there tightly. The restaurant really isn’t in that big of a space and when they have live music it’s impossible to hear. Go for the food though and you won’t be sorry.

What to get: — green pepper rings — any salad(all huge) — Philly Cheese Steak — Steak Sandwich — Ahi Tuna Lines are long. Be ready to wait. They do take drink orders while you’re waiting

I’ve been to Murrys a handful of times. Mainly when I was in college and family came in town. I recently came back with my girlfriend and her family for a quick lunch. The first thing that anyone notices when they walk into Murrys is how dark it is. Most places turn up the light during the day but NOPE. Not Murrys. They have 24⁄7 intense jazz club mood lighting. That’s probably why they don’t have many food photos. Just like everywhere in Columbia, the majority of the menu is cheap. Especially considering this being one of the nicer places to visit. We got an order of their famous fried green peppers with powdered sugar. An unlikely but tasty combination! For my main meal, I went with the hot turkey sandwich. It was pretty darn good and around $ 6. I wasn’t too hungry but wasn’t in the mood for a salad. I’d recommend getting the steak sandwich. It’s literally a steak on bread for under $ 10. It might be one of the best steak deals I’ve seen in quite some time. If you come in the evening prepare yourself for loud music and an upbeat atmosphere!

Always on my list when I’m in Columbia. My friend and I used to meet up here once a week and split a carafe of red wine with Brock’s green pepper rings, a salad, and Bob’s bobs. It’s in an older strip mall off of Green Meadows, which is a admittedly not the most ideal location perhaps. But the food and the live piano make up for that. I never was able to resist their rotating dessert menu either. It’s ever-changing — look at the board to see what’s available. There are usually 6 or 7 up there at a time. Most of their home-made ice cream cakes are fabulous. They are famous for their Gooey Butter Cake, FYI… according to a friend who used to work there, some diners would actually get upset when it wasn’t on the menu!

Love eating here every time I go to Columbia. Great food and great service. They are usually busy but that is to be expected with a great restaurant.

One of the longest running and consistently best restaurants in Columbia. I was shocked it doesn’t get more reviews. I’ve eaten there many, many times over the years but I had lunch there today and it’s still as great as ever. As its a jazz bistro, it has a great, warm, cozy ambiance and the food is incredibly reasonable for such high quality.

None better. Great food, casual atmosphere, very generous drinks from the bar. All wait staff are efficient, courteous, and friendly in a sincere way. One of my favorite places to be.

Everyone raves about Murry’s, but the tables are so crammed together you have absolutely no privacy. When I went, a particularly large middle age man was directly behind me taking up all the space and I was scrunched right into the table. We couldn’t move the table the other way, because there was yet another table right up against ours. I went here on a date and the atmosphere was not great for conversation or having fun. The food was mediocre as well. Apparently they really love to put cheese on everything.

Fantastic atmosphere, a Columbia classic. Good food, good music and not too bad of a staff. Must try in Columbia.

Great drinks and dinner. Tried the calamari for the 2nd time and just don’t care for it. Try the blue chip cheese bread or the fried green pepper rings if you want something different. Service is outstanding and the lighting is low so great for date night.

The place is really nice — good live music which started at 9 pm — had a little wait to be seated however you can sit and have drinks in the mean time — they have seating arrangement near the reception for people who are waiting — Fried pepper was really good– took them 40 minutes after we were seated at our table and 3 reminders to get our drink — meal did not come in 1 hr 10 minutes — went to counter and complained — response was it depends on server — server then brought the food to counter which we then packed and left — Will probably not return again due to weak customer service —

I am giving this restaurant two stars only because it has good beer and it can protect you from the elements. Overall, the food choices are extremely limited, they are served with too much oil, fat and salt. Even the salads are served with too much cheese and too much dressing. The beer selection was limited, but there were some good local brewery selections. On this particular night, our server was extremely inattentive, and we actually had to almost trip her to get her to stop at our table after being MIA for 15+ minute stretches. If you are looking for a date whom you might not be able to make out his/her features or hear what they’re saying, this place is for you. However, if you would like to be able to hear who you are sitting with and be able to at least make out the whites of their eyes, I would recommend going somewhere else.

Treat yourself!!! If you are ever in CoMo, for any reason, trust me, just go! If there is a wait, just wait. Tip — get there before 6. As soon as you sit down order Brock’s Green Pepper Rings. Listen, this ain’t my first rodeo and I ain’t never had anything like it. I will be back any and every time I come to Columbia.

This place is cool good live music I should say the powdered sugar covered fried peppers are awesome, the fried frog legs are good, the fried egg plants which looks like french fries are delicious and the service is great. I felt like the place was a little loud, yes I understand that the music was live but that made it a little difficult to hear what we were saying to one another. That’s my only complaint. Would love to go back.

Absolutely great. This place is by far one of my favorite places to eat in columbia! Everything I have tried so far on the menu have been great you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. My personal favorite is the chicken breast sandwich! Word of warning though this place is PACKED on the weekends we often go on weekdays when it is a bit quieter and less hectic. If you haven’t tried murry’s yet you are missing out!

I was visiting my friend Rachel in Columbia, who is a great friend and travel buddy. Our last meal together had been in Amsterdam earlier this year so I was interested to see where she would take me after a long day of driving. We ended up at Murrys which was a pleasant surprise not just for the great live music in the background, but for the simple, no frills fare that was offered. I had a special of that week — seared scallops in a spicy tomato sauce and some local beer. Just what I needed before crashing out. Would love to come back sometime when I’m not so tired!

I don’t know why people like this place. It’s ok at best. I think the atmosphere is fine, but there’s really not much special about eating here; the unique food options are unique but really just ok to eat and not something you would go out of your way for. It’s large enough and well staffed, so you don’t have to wait and I’m told they have bands at various times, which would be nice, but otherwise, I would not recommend it to anyone.

Recently revisited this Columbia staple during Homecoming and was not disappointed. It was about an hour long wait, but that is not unexpected on a football Friday especially during Homecoming. We started our meal off with some chicken livers and the fried eggplant. Both were very delicious(if not entirely healthy). I ordered the ahi tuna(excellent), and my companions had the pork medallions(dinner special) and the steak sandwich. The pork was very nice, but I must recommend the steak sandwich to anyone looking for a big piece of meat ;-) It was basically a huge filet with a couple of pieces of «bread» as garnish. It seems to be a great value if you want steak but don’t want to pay for the entrée cuts. Overall a very good place for a better than usual dinner in a college town. Check them out.
