I have never had a good or great experience at Sophia’s, and I have been there several times for various personal and professional engagements. Despite the«high class» prices and attempted atmosphere, you will receive mediocre service from servers who either aren’t treated right by their superiors or weren’t hired for their customer service skills so much as their ability to wear an all-black outfit. The food is passable, but you would do better in Columbia, MO to spend your hard earned discretionary income at nearby places like 44 Stone or even Shakespeare’s. The pasta options appear to have been unthawed and microwaved before they make it onto your plate, and many of their dishes are reminiscent of a salt lick in terms of flavor. This might be a decent place to have a quiet conversation over some appetizers, but I would not recommend it if you’re hungry and want a great dining experience.

One of my favorite places to eat in CoMo, Sunday brunch is the best in town! And it is the perfect place for a date night, the hubs loved it too.

The wait staff was nice. My parents are vegetarians and our server was very helpful in identifying what they could order and requesting the meat be separated on an appetizer we shared The Pasta Buonasera was too dry for me. I didn’t like it. I had some of my mom’s Three Mushroom Penne, and that was good. My dad liked his Mediterranean Pizza. The Antipasto Plate was sort of a disappointment. There was a lot of the roasted garlic and fruit. It felt like way too much money for only a few cheese slices and not many other fresh options. The hummus was nice.

Party with friends celebrating 25 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed. You should have seen the big blue bus! Wow. They are on a Legacy Tour. Stopped at the MO Capitol Building 31 March 2015

We tried Sophia’s years ago and were totally underwhelmed so we thought we’d give it another try tonight. Husband ordered the special, a pasta with pork Bolognese and I’m not kidding, it tasted like Ragu sauce plus a cup of sugar. The salad with grilled salmon was supposed to have roasted peppers — nah. Too much work, I guess. Quite ho-hum. Couldn’t find the pancetta. And a word about the bread: it’s that kind of fake baguette you buy at your average grocery store, and the plate of olive oil with«fresh ground pepper» doesn’t make it okay. Another thing: their wine list is awful. Chosen by a non-wine drinker, obviously. I’m not kidding when I say we want our money back.

Great food and a great atmosphere. I really enjoyed the atmosphere on a date night with my wife. The service was good and the food was excellent. The staff all seemed to have a smile for everyone and they truly looked like they were enjoying their job(including the young woman mentioned below). The art displayed on the walls is worth noting and was very interesting. The style reminded me of Thomas Hart Benton’s works hanging in the capital building in Jefferson City, but the themes were more current. Finally, I can’t resist adding a unique and funny/gross thing I observed while there … we were seated near the section of the bar where the wait staff picked up their drinks, so there were often people there and were in my direct line of sight. One young waitress obviously had an underwear problem and at least twice stood at the bar, waiting for drinks and casually, but determinedly picking at her butt, apparently oblivious to the fact that there were two customers sitting right behind her. Fortunately, her hands stayed on the outside of her jeans … but how clueless do you have to be?!? I was glad she was not waiting on us and might consider asking for another person if we end up in her section on future trips.

Excellent food but very surprised that our salads were brought the same time as the entrees. This has happened twice now and caused all at the table to juggle plates to have enough space on the table

I went here for Sunday brunch with a friend. I ordered the Lobster and White Truffle Quiche. It was alright. I mean it had lil pieces of lobster, shrimp, and eggs. The puff pastry shell was a nice balance. However, for $ 13.99 I expected a bigger plate or more pieces of shrimp or lobster. Let’s just say I left the restaurant still a lil hungry~

I took a guest to this restaurant because the hotel where I was staying recommended it for a «nice» upscale place. However I was very disappointed. I had pasta and meatballs which they proceeded to cook to within an inch of its life. An Italian restaurant overcooking the pasta is just a sin in my opinion. I shouldn’t have to tell them when ordering to cook it el dente. My companion also had overcooked pasta so that just ruined the meal all around. For dessert I tried the mixed berry and took it back to my hotel to eat later. The dessert was all right but it was served with cinnamon ice cream and I think for the type of dessert it would have been better with plain vanilla. When returning to this area I would skip eating here for sure.

Appetizers were alright. Plenty of quality beverage choices. I got the salmon and crab dish and it was nothing short of 5 star.

Maybe a bad night! Waited for a table, then once we were seated, waited and waited for a server, ordered our drinks, then waited and waited, then saw our server brings appetizers to a table that were seated after us. Finally, got up and left. But my Coke was good!

Good food and I lived their dessert. I was pleased, but not blown away. Wait is a bit on the long side when they’re busy and I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily worth it unless you’re looking for a slow evening near where you live

Really, really good food. Fun atmosphere. Appetizers are all delicious. Great selection of pasta dishes. Good wine and sangria. They do a great job with takeout, too.

Some of the dishes aren’t for everyone’s taste buds, if you’re looking for a simple spaghetti this is not your restaurant. However if you’re looking for something adventurous the food here is absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the Italian Nachos or the cheesy baked mushroom for apps, the shrimp and asiago pasta or horseradish salmon for dinner. Service is really friendly, kitchen is typically speedy. One of my favorite somewhat«hidden» gems of Como!

Excellent food, great service. Get the crab cakes. No seriously. Get the crab cakes. We like to sample and share small plates and appetizers but the brunch casserole is really good. Hardly ever a wait. Outdoor seating is nice in the spring and summer. Get the crab cakes.

Excellent meal and service tonight at Sophia’s! Had chicken mudega from waitress recommendation, it was incredible and piping hot. Flavors from tarragon sauce melted in our mouth. Wife had scallop and strip steak pasta, it was great as well! Crab cakes had great flavors as did the berry crisp dessert. I highly recommend this place. First time I have been here from out of state! Our server made experience the best for my wife and I.

I just went to Sophia’s for the first time after living in Columbia for 5 years and I can’t believe I’ve been missing this! Best food in Columbia for this price range. Sophia’s is a great alternative if you want a special meal but aren’t prepared to go for CC’s. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Our table had everything from salmon to chicken to pasta and seafood and everyone(even the pickiest eater) cleaned their plate. My only complaint would be that my «sea scallops» were awfully small. They may have been bay scallops. Either way though they tasted great. I actually went back for Sunday brunch the same weekend. I had the Lobster and White Truffle Quiche and it was amongst the best breakfast dishes I’ve ever had. Lump lobster, flaky puff pastry and cheddar mornay sauce(I could bathe in that stuff). So amazing. Others in my party had the Basil Asiago Breakfast Steak and Biscuits and Gravy(all raved about). I’d also like to mention that their coffee may be the best I’ve had in Columbia as well. Definitely a 5 star place, ESPECIALLY for brunch. It’s nice to see someone else take breakfast foods as seriously as I do.

My boyfriend & I visited this place for the first time this evening. Besides sitting at our table for about 5 minutes with no one greeting us or bringing waters, the experience was delightful! The calamari was delish & the cilantro-lime dipping sauce was amazing! Probably could also be served with a side of marinara for those marinara lovers! The olive oil that they serve with the bread should come with Parmesan cheese like every other Italian restaurant I’ve been too… really makes a difference! As far as their menu goes they have a lot of wonderful choices & don’t mind making substitutions for certain things so that was a plus! They should add some fried ravioli though! I was in Columbia for the first time from Champaign il, where they really don’t sell fried ravioli, so I was really looking forward to that dish when I got into town! Go check this place out! Def a good alternative to plain olé olive garden!

I used to come here quite often several years ago when I lived in Columbia, and for a time Sophia’s was one of my favorite restaurants. It has been sometime since I have last dined here, so it is possible that things have changed since then, but my main issue with the place was the dull menu. During the few years that I came here often it didn’t really change at all. I can only order the same pasta dishes or steak so many times! One thing that I really like about this place, however, is the bocce ball court outside. A really fun way to end a meal! I would consider trying this place again, as long as they have added some new menu items.
