The Art Pad Gallery offers a breath of fresh air from the often predictable work seen in some Short North galleries. Most of what the Art Pad Gallery offers is outsider art, and they state on their website that no matter how beautiful your landscape painting might be, it doesn’t belong in their gallery. There are two separate rooms at the Art Pad Gallery. The front room occupies a number of artists selling small works that might stay on the walls for months at a time. Often the work in this front room has nothing to do with the themed show happening in the back room. A few times a year the gallery accepts open submissions for themed shows, like the Erotic Art Show in February. Otherwise you must follow submission guidelines on the website. The general vibe is older and more relaxed than other galleries, it’s a shame it’s so far out of the way. But promising as well. I would like to see a line of galleries connect the Short North to Clintonville someday.
