i like bob evans. it’s a decent restaurant for its class. i like both of the stores that are in westerville. but this particular location has some work to do. there’s a sign outside that advertises free wi-fi. i think most, if not all bob evans now have that. great, so, i go in with my laptop and want… go figure, coffee and wifi for an hour. i asked for a seat near an outlet so i could plug in my laptop and the hostess seemed like i was asking her to share her lunch with me. seriously folks, is it so hard for people to actually do their job these days of friendly customer service? i’m not asking for anything out of the ordinary. where has customer service gone? ok, next i get seated in the back of the place(close to an outlet though!). she puts the menu down and walks away while snidely saying«enjoy». nice. so, now i’m done with the hostess until i need to pay. i setup my laptop and start to surf while i wait to order the coffee. it’s 10 minutes before anyone comes to me. the waitress does apologize for not seeing me and brings a coffee within a couple of minutes. after that, the refills are infrequent. a table of 8 people having a business meeting behind me get better service and they get offered coffee on occasions that i don’t. arggg. i never received a check. it’s completely weird to not get a check and go to the hostess to pay and have to tell what you ordered. seriously, would i want to bring my wife in for dinner to a place that treats their customers like this? i’m in the neighborhood, but think i’ll end up giving other places a try. i notice tim hortons down the street has wifi now.

The fare is good, typical Bob Evans, the service at this location is usually pretty good, especially compared to the bad service we always get at 161 and Busch Blvd. I think though, I have figured out a flaw in Bob Evans’ wait person training as I see this same flaw at every Bob’s. I think they are trained to drop off your check as soon as you get your food. If your in a hurry this is great, but when they drop the check, frequently even before you take a bite of your food, they always ask, «Will there be anything else?» At that point, I frequently don’t know if I need anything else, but once they drop that check trying to get them back to your table is a very difficult task.

«So Grandpa, where would you like to go to lunch today?» «Bob Evans.» And so goes the conversation every time I take my Gramps out to lunch. But for good reason. There’s nothing pretentious or fancy here, you always know what you’re going to get and that its going to be pretty decent, and your coffee cup will never be empty! Bob Evans is my father’s favorite destination as well and he always gets the sausage gravy and biscuits swearing that he has never tasted better ones. I usually try to get something different each time as they have a pretty big menu. The breakfast served all day menu is still the best, and I remember Bob Evans being my 1st stop when I came home to visit after 4 months overseas because I wanted pancakes with maple syrup. Proper pancakes, not crepes, with real maple syrup… and I don’t even really like maple syrup! Their salads(what I got today) are also really good and you can get them in a smaller lunch size if you don’t want a huge meal. Or do what I usually do and get the larger portion and get a box right away. Lunch and dinner in one go. I always get the biscuit to accompany the salad and slather it with honey. The staff at this location is always friendly and it shows how much dear Grandpa comes in because they say hi to him right away and ask how he’s been. Its nice to go someplace where you feel welcome! No wonder he gets me Bob Evans gift cards for every special occasion! P. S. I think this location also has wifi, but I’ve never had the foresight to bring my computer to try it out. Next time, I promise!

I came up here this mornig with my next door neighbor, for breakfast. I had eggs, bacon, hash-browns and toast. My friend had oatmeal and two biscuits. Everything was perfect. My eggs were perfectly cooked, the bacon was done right, and even the hash-browns were perect. What a great day the chef must have been having! Oh, and my friend bought! How about that!

We went to two Bob Evans(the other — 900 Bethel Rd) while I was into town. Had the breakfast menu both times just for the biscuits. OMG the biscuits, they are so big and fluffy. They didn’t smother them with butter or gravy — you got to experience their amazingness in their natural state. Service at this location was excellent.(+ one star) Not only was the server attentive, but both the manager and assistant manager came over to make sure that we didn’t need more drinks or anything else. We were very satisfied with our breakfast. :)
