Buckeye Slice

Our bread sticks tasted like chemicals, we called him and he tasted the pan he made it in and said it did taste like chemicals!!! but he said he didn’t know what it could be and he didn’t seem to care to find out what it was even when i advised him that our pregnant co-​worker eat one! he laughed and thought it was funny! Not a good place! Not a good person! We called off our office phone so it was recorded and we did file a complaint with the health departments that said they would go over and check things out immediately!

After reading the great reviews about this place, I decided to give it a try. Ordered a 14in half white pizza and half bacon banana peppers. Also, I ordered 5 garlic knots since they’ve been getting rave reviews. Let’s just say, the reviews weren’t lying. The pizza and garlic knots are some of the best I’ve had in this part of Columbus! The staff was very friendly and nice. I definitely recommend this place for those looking for an authentic New York style pizza. I’ll be back!

I had one of the best experiences at a restaurant at Buckeye Slice this evening. I went in with son, a buddy and his son. The boys wanted chocolate mill and they were out. So I ordered them white milk and placed our order. My son was a little upset they didn’t have Chocolate milk and the owner must have heard and a few minutes later he came over with two chocolate milks. One for my son and one for my buddy’s son. He went next door to a different restaurant and bought two chocolate milks and brought them over to our kids and didn’t even charge us for them. That is great service and something I will never forget. The owner/​staff went out of their way to for us. Made sure our drinks were filled and we were taken care of. Can’t say enough. Now on top of all that the pizza was just amazing. Best New York Style pizza in Columbus by far. Great crust and a perfect ratio of cheese and sauce. I can’t say enough about how great the pizza is and the owner/​staff make the dining experience great. I strongly recommend this place whether you are looking for a slice or a whole pie!

Some great Pizza over at Buckeye slice. I’ve been looking for a place that has some big olé’ New York style pizza, and man did this place deliver. If you want something filling, warm, tasty then the garlic rolls are where it’s at. You can’t go wrong for the price.

I am from New York so naturally, I have a strong long for New York style pizza. Since moving to Columbus I had not been able to find anything close to the thing doughy crispy delicious pizza I was so used to enjoying. That is, until I found Buckeye slice. This is honestly the ONLY place in Columbus you can find an authentic piece of New York style pizza, this best kind of pizza if you ask me. Their garlic knots are some of the best I have ever had. I stop by Buckeye Slice very frequently and always have a wonderful experience with friendly, dedicated staff and freshly cooked food. The owner is wonderful and you can tell takes pride in his business. A+ all the way around.

As far as New York style pizza in Columbus, this is it. Staff was friendly. Pizza was gargantuan. The sauce really sets them apart. It’s a delicious sauce. I am generally a deep dish guy, but they have converted me.

It may be called the same pizza, but it tastes saltier than before. I used to go every other Tuesday when I got my nails done across the street. Nothing is the same to me, especially the customer service. I’ll find a new place.

im jus gonna get to the real. Buckeye Slice is the ONLY true New York style pizza in Columbus. Im from Columbus and i even travel to Bennys in Marysville from time to time. Lets jus say i know good pizza and i know great pizza. This is great all the way down to the scratch made dough. Its crispy in the right places and chewy where its supposedto be. Fresh toppings and great tasting sauce. NUFF SAID!!!

This place has gone through some name changes but it’s what is formerly known as The Flying Pizza. If you read my review of that place I put it as the top pizza place in Columbus to get a great slice, or three, of New York style pizza. Which is, in my opinion, the best type of pizza that there is and one that is fairly rare to find here in central Ohio.
If you had read my review of Flying Pizza you’d know the only real knock I had on them was the owner and people who worked there weren’t the friendliest bunch and the actual atmosphere of the restaurant was more of a dive than a decent place to eat. I recommended to go and get your pizza, make sure you got the correct thing (they also sometimes messed up to-​go orders) and eat it back at the office or at home.
Well after visiting Buckeye Slice recently I can now say that those two issues are resolved. The owner, whose name is Mark if I recall correctly, is a very friendly young guy who really enjoys talking about pizza, the restaurant business and in general making sure that you are satisfied with your order. I talked with Mark a good bit and he was enjoyable to banter with and you can tell the guy really knows his pizza.
Now, all that aside, how is the pizza? Did they change the formula? Is it still the king of Columbus pizza? I’m happy to say that yes it is the same formula, yes it’s still awesome and yes it’s still the KING of pizza here in Columbus. At least in my opinion anyways. And trust me, if you were to see my belly you’d know I really know pizza. There are nearly 1,000 pizza places in Columbus and I have probably tried near half of them and this is the best place to get pizza. Hands down.
What makes it the best? Well for starters the crust. The New York crust is the base upon which all is built. You want a nice soft, somewhat chewy top part and a golden brown, nearly burnt, slightly firm bottom part. And of course you want a nice, doughy bread taste as well. Buckeye slice has all of that in spades. Then the sauce. The sauce must be minimal to keep from making a mess but also slightly tomatoey and tangy. Again: check! Moving on the pepperoni must be thin and wider, with a very hearty pepperoni/​meaty taste but most importantly slightly crisped and chewy. Yes indeed Buckeye slice is just what the doctor ordered.
And lastly the cheese, which is what most shops miss who attempt a New York style slice. The cheese should be very buttery and melted, in other words very high quality cheese. This is why most shops don’t get New York style right if they do nail the crust as they try to cheap out and use cheap cheese. Not here at Buckeye slice. Their cheese is the bomb — just look at my picture! I only got one other topping: mushrooms and they were fresh and sliced just thick enough to add a great texture and taste to the pie. You can try other options as well on your pie but I like to stick with the basics when it comes to New York style. Pepperoni, extra cheese and maybe one other topping.
What does all this add up to? Flavor nirvana. Buckeye slice is just like our Ohio State Buckeyes — the best you can find anywhere.
As always, you will get a much better pizza here and any other New York style place if you order a whole pie and have it made fresh. But they are happy to make you individual slices here as well and that is what I sampled and have based my review upon. Considering Flying Pizza didn’t do slices as well as their regular pie I cannot wait to try buying a whole pie from Buckeye slice.
My only regret will likely be I cannot give them 6 stars. Run, don’t walk to Buckeye slice and try the best pizza you can find anywhere in the Buckeye state.
So in conclusion Buckeye slice is my new favorite pizza shop! Strongly recommended!

Awesome pizza, quick service and the employees make sure you’re happy with your za. Came in for a couple slices, and two were very slightly over cooked (which is actually how I like it) and without me saying anything he had an extra two (no charge) for me. Great stuff. Check it out.

If your looking for New York style pizza in the city of Columbus this is the spot … the owner is always there and is super nice … recommended for lunch with a two slice combo and drink.
