Phenomenal! Will definitely be back had yellowtail and charred albacore sashimi nice cuts! Also had a Spicy Yellowtail roll with jalepeno. The best however was the California Dreaming roll! Perfect!

The salad was good but the Tonkatsu Ramen was very disappointing as well as the Kalbi Box. Are waiter was super cool and I think I may have just ordered the wrong things?

Very good! I have had the opportunity to enjoy Sushi restaurants throughout the country, Tora is one of the better.

I was there for literally five minutes and I have never felt more uncomfortable and unwelcome because I had my child with me. I am aware that a lot of adults do not like to deal with the discoveries of a child but my child was being very well behaved. While being seated the manager grabbed crayons away from the hostess as he walked by, setting off the tone that we were not welcomed. I asked to sit at the bar so my son could watch the chefs prepare sushi. The hostess was hesitant because one seat wasn’t cleaned off. It literally takes a half a minute to clear off a table. The manager came over to finish wiping down the bar and then turns to me and says I will let you bring this in this time but do not bring outside beverages. It’s our policy and we are not responsible. It was a nearly completed mini Frappuccino that my son was finishing on a hot day… First, I was not aware of this policy, second the manager was not polite. He left, I looked around at the hostess twice because she didn’t leave the menu. Finally she brought it over, but I already got the point so I left. I do not appreciate snobbery as a patron and will not be coming back even without my son.

Really good food, my only gripe is that it is a little pricey, but in all honesty you can tell they use higher quality ingredients than other places.

Arvid and I met for lunch here on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon. They have a nice patio space, however no tables were out do to the cool breeze to start the day. Tora’s lunch menu applies only Monday thru Friday, so it took me some time to scan the regular menu. I was stuck. I couldn’t decide on a hot stone bowl, sushi, a salad, my mind was all over the freaking place. I was elated that their menu shows pictures of every roll and dish — big help :) Also, we had an attentive waiter. He even marked what sushi rolls he likes/recommends. I finally went with the Chicken Hibachi box. It gave me a taste of several different items in the different compartments of the«tray». Of course, comes with Hibachi chicken(duh!), a scoop of white rice, A lightly fried tofu square with a sweet orange sauce drizzled atop, a breaded potato-and-veggies-pancake, and five cuts of their California Roll. Lots of flavors! The fried tofu was swell. Subtle tastes mixed with the sauce gave it two thumbs up. The potato cake was also savory. Great refreshing California Roll, too. The Hibachi was packed with veggies — yellow squash, zucchini, mushrooms — personal favs! The chicken was a bit on the dry side, but still had a decent flavor. Looking through all the pictures in the menu was somewhat torture on my five senses, so I look forward to coming back and try more offerings.

Most everything in my prior review is still accurate. However, the mismanaged wait staff was getting to be so terrible– I quit going! I meant to go, I want to go, I’ve thought about going. Then, I think of the experience and it never appeals to me anymore… It’s like having to watch the movie premier of the decade with a theater full of unhappy toddlers. The poor service simply ruined it for me. Of course, I can sit at the sushi bar and have the advantage mentioned in my prior review, if it’s available, and if my dining partners will tolerate it. Might send the boyfriend in for takeout to survey the scene.

Tora is a solid Japanese spot in Gahanna. My lunch a few weeks back exceeded my expectations. First of all, the restaurant’s ambiance is modern and chic. Don’t let its strip mall location fool you. Its minimalistic interior with futuristic spherical light fixtures and white paper table covers add an unexpected aura of class and luxury to this Japanese restaurant. I ordered the Hiya Yakko(cold tofu with bonito flakes and soy sauce) and an Alaska roll(salmon, avocado and cucumber) to start. The tofu dish was just okay. I usually order Agedashi tofu, which is a warm deep fried tofu, which I much prefer. The cold tofu just threw me off. The Alaska roll was pretty simple, but well put-together and well-portioned. For $ 6.50, it’s one of the cheaper rolls. The rolls range from $ 4.99 to $ 15.99 and there are over 50+ different varieties to choose from. Some of the fancier rolls sound pretty awesome and I would come back to try some. The chicken katsu don was huge! The chicken was tender with the onions and eggs well incorporated on top of the chicken. While the portions were impressive, I found the chicken to be underseasoned. It needed more salt and maybe more sweetness from additional onions. Prices were fair considering the portion sizes. It’s ½ off sushi rolls on Tuesdays, so that’s a pretty good deal. The waitstaff was pleasant and uniformed. Although I wasn’t fully satisfied with my chicken katsu main, I suspect Tora’s specialty sushi rolls are the way to go. I would definitely come back.

If you are a sushi lover, this would be an excellent stop on Tuesday after work as they have between 30%-50% specials. They also have a variety of pasta, cooked meat(beef & chicken), salads and soups. Very upscale ambiance tucked in the corner of stroneridge plaza a few doors down from Smoothie King. The seating is pretty limited but during the warm spring and summer days the patio offers outdoor seating. Since i am not a sushi eater(i like my food cooked) i indulged in the beef kolbi box which is filled with seaweed salad, potato salad, fried tofu, beef short ribs with a Korean BBQ sauce, California sushi rolls, miniature spring rolls and choice of either side salad or miso soup. The beef was recommended by my waiter and was absolutely amazing! Service was excellent and my drink refills were poured before i was on my second to last sip! My friend ordered the spicy seafood pot and he said it was delish! They also offer habachi chicken, salmon, and beef as well as a few japanese noodle dishes. I love how the menu has pictures of each item… Great menu experience for a visual person such as myself. Upscale, moderate on price, clean and happy atmosphere. Excellent sushi gem of Gahanna.

Tuesdays are half-price sushi rolls. What a stroke of luck. With this special I could try different rolls, including Alaska and Black Spider. Both were fresh and excellent. Very good service, a beautiful restaurant that is exceptionally clean and you’ll love it like I did. Bookmarked for a hopeful return someday.

Maybe I’m still new to sushi but I really didn’t like the huge size of my sushi. I also didn’t like the texture of the rice. I will give it one more try with some safer items on the menu. However, very beautiful inside the restaurant. Would be great for a date

I think I found my new Sushi spot! Great vast menu to choose from, great authentic quality and freshness. Mr. Sushi had been my go to place for years but I feel like their quality has fallen off quite a bit(even got food poisoning there) so to have such a wonderful experience at Tora really makes me happy to find a new great sushi/Asian place in the Gahanna/New Albany area.

Japanese cuisine in my backyard. Yes, people. Bento boxes, stone pots & donburies to steak and sushi. I am so grateful for this find. This is my second time here and I needed one more visit to inspire this review. First and foremost I read other reviews and most don’t care for the sushi based on price and lack of portion so don’t eat here if that’s all you will get. This is Japanese influenced so step out your usual and try something different. The restaurant is in a strip mall off Hamilton Road in Gahanna and easily accessible with ample parking. Small and quaint restaurant. The service is attentive and timely. The ambiance is great for a nice romantic dinner to a more elegant family dinner. They do have kid options for the youngsters. My teenager is adventures so the menu was appeasing to him. We ordered a few Kalbi boxes, a sushi roll and Lobster Miso Soup. The soup was full of chunks of lobster with the richness of the miso and broth. A salad was served before the Kalbi boxes. What a nice salty and sweet sauce on top of the salad. The Kalbi box includes many different options to enjoy. The beef is short rib and tender and sweet. Perfect balance when eaten with the rice. Grab a few bites of the croquet or fried tofu. A Cali roll and spring roll finish out all that’s included. Oh boy, that’s a killer box that stuffed my belly. I hope this place stays a local favorite only known by a few because it’s too quaint to be a chain.

Ok, I come here way more than I probably should. For some reason, I just like the atmosphere here, I can come on a week night and expect it to be how I like it. Unless it’s half-off sushi night, which I avoid because it gets too busy for my tastes, so if that’s what you want, come before 6pm to avoid waiting.

My husband and I got a baby sitter(rare) and went out searching for a nice place to eat for our anniversary… we are not from around here and so we really didn’t expect EVERY restaurant at Easton Towne Center to be packed and have wait times of an hour and a half. After aimlessly walking and a little bickering I finally decided to look for a restaurant on Unilocal that was more off the beaten path. This place was the gem amidst a pile of rocks. The ambience, the service, the FOOD was so excellent! We asked the waiter to recommend a spicy sushi roll and he suggested the Jay Roll and it was SOGOOD. Crunchy, spicy, warm and just delicious! The second favorite roll that we ordered was the Citrus Roll… it had paper thin sliced lemon on top and it was some of the best sushi I had ever had. I ordered a vegetarian roll(it was called the Blue something) that had mango and a blueberry sauce on top that even my husband loved(and he isn’t into vegetarianism lol)… The Tango Shrimp roll was a little bland, as well as the spicy salmon but both were still very well prepared and yummy. We also had the sampler appetizer and let me tell you: their calamari is excellent. It was lightly fried and then tossed with small broccoli heads and what looked to be onions? And then covered with this green pesto like sauce… it was just delicious. We finished the meal with their Mochi icecream plate and, well, who doesn’t love Mochi icecream? Their menu was extensive with so many more things to try! My husband and I can’t wait to get the chance to go back!

I went to Tora for lunch today and had a pretty tasty meal of sushi. The place sits in a strip mall, but you’d never guess that once you’re inside with the beautiful décor. I took a seat at the sushi bar, and the hostess was super nice and very quick. I didn’t get to look at much of the other parts of the menu, but they do have some nice lunch specials for the sushi. I ended up going with a Rising Sun roll and the spicy salmon roll. There were a few tables seated when I went in, but it wasn’t very packed, and my sushi rolls came out really fast. It could be based on the fact that they were pretty slow, but it was nice, since I was just taking a lunch break and needed to be in and out. The sushi looked and tasted great, especially the special Rising Sun roll. That roll by itself was pretty filling, and I’m assuming a lot of their special rolls are, so you probably don’t need a second one unless you’re super hungry. In my opinion, this restaurant is a step above your average sushi place, and I’ll definitely be back again.

I’ve been coming to Tora since their grand opening years, ago. I was initially interested in trying out Tora because of the close distance to my home. And boy, am I glad that I tried it out! I’ve been hooked ever since! I only order their sushi and I typically come on Tuesday’s. If you’re not familiar with their Tuesday special, select sushi items are 30−50% off! My favorite sushi items on their menu: 1. Sunday Morning, 2. Spicy Tuna Crunch, 3. Philly Roll and 4. Shrimp Tempora Their sushi is absolutely delicious! Service is always good, I haven’t had a bad experience yet.

Great sushi place not only around this area but in general. I’m extremely picky when it comes to sushi and when my favorite restaurant was closed for the day we went to try tora. The atmosphere is very nice and reminds me of a clean fancier restaurant. We sat at the bar and had quick service. The fish tastes extremely fresh and when the sashimi melts like butter in your mouth you know it’s good. The spicy salmon with tempura flakes is great here as well as the salmon sashimi.

Grilled squid rings. Oh my. I took the previous reviewer’s advice and ordered them. They are phenomenal. Hands down the best squid I’ve ever had. I also ordered a spicy tuna hand roll. When prompted, yes you want cucumber. Prepare to taste one of the best hand rolls you’ve ever had. Seriously. The spicy tuna here is SO much better than all the other sushi places I have been. I love mochi ice cream. For 6.99, I received 4 whole pieces, all of them were split into two. Red bean, green tea, strawberry, and orange. The orange one had pieces of onions on the bottom of it. So they’ve got to watch sharing the cutting boards… But other than that, it was delicious. :) The server was excellent and hats off to Mr. Yoo, my favorite sushi chef of all time. I can’t wait to come back again in a few weeks! Seriously. Order a spicy tuna hand roll.
