I live very close to this location so we go in often for a quick dinner or drink. Food: the food is really good here. I’ve had the crave worthy stuff(fish and chips, quesadillas etc) as well as their soup and salads. All of it has been really great. Fresh and tasty! Staff: the staff here is really amazing. Super attentive, nice and accommodating. The hostess is friendly and seats you quickly and the servers are on their game. We’re big fans of Chance, one of the waiters. Décor: I love the displays of old beer cans but the rest of the décor could definitely use a little work. Just a bit outdated and not exactly cohesive. Doesn’t distract from the great service and food though!

Second time here. Last Thursday the place was packed and very busy but quick, great service. Great crabmeat sandwich and skewered veggies. Last evening there were only a few people and a different bar maid. I waited 20 minutes to be asked what I wanted to drink. Then she approached I reminded her she had served a guy, who had just sat, his drink and ignored me. She said, «Sorry, but it is what it is. What do you want to drink?» ??? She made that statement again when she gave me my bill.

Fish and chips was my choice as this was their specialty and it was great! Loved the area it was located in. Their building was impressive. The only thing that could of made this meal any better would of been warm weather and be able to eat outside in their awesome outside dining area.

Not our first choice for that night’s meal… however, worth the visit. Actually, this was further down the list because every place else was packed. Atmosphere: This location definitely needs some updating! I have visited two other locations in the Greater Columbus area and both are far more appealing than this one. The dining area we were in didn’t even feel like a pub, so it was disappointing from that perspective. Parking is terrible!!! We were lucky to find a spot when a car pulled away, but all parking spots were still packed when we went to our vehicle over an hour later. Staff: The staff is wonderful! We were not able to get into our first choice, so we started checking Unilocal for alternatives, which lead me to call here to see if they even had open seats. We confirmed the number of seats needed and made our way there. The moment we walked in, the hostess led us directly to our tables. The waitress was polite and conversational, which makes for a very enjoyable experience. She was very attentive and ensured we had everything we wanted. Food: as far as I recall, everyone enjoyed their meals and there was not a single complaint. My girlfriend had the fish and chips and I had the clam strips and chips. The clam strips are far from the best I’ve ever had, but they were good. If I am in this area again, and can’t make my first choice(or second), then this is still a very acceptable alternative.

Excellent service and great food. We had the stuffed pepper soup for an appetizer. Highly recommended. The New York strip was a feast as well. Finished up with some carrot cake.

Roll up your sleeves… it’s Wednesday night and you all know what that means –all you can eat shrimp and chips at Old Bag of Nails! I have been a big fan of OBON since the late 90s, and still believe they have the best fish and chips in Columbus. Better even than Claddagh.(Do yourself a favor, though, and ask that the chips come on a separate basket so the steam from the fish doesn’t make them soggy.) The quality of service at OBON is at a level that perhaps isn’t for everyone, but boy does it work for me. Friendly but not gushy. Inviting but not rehearsed. Attentive but not hovering. It reminds me of the casual gold standard that the Dube and Nancy’s always seem to have. It was that glint in the eye that says, look, I’ll bust my hump to get you whatever it is you need and I’ll do it with a smile, but then I’ll leave you be to chew your own food. I like to be served without being waited on, if that makes sense, and OBON is exactly that for me. I detected a hint more formality at the Worthington location, but maybe that was just my imagination. The bottom line: this is a neighborhood pub with pubby food, but they offer some wonderful fresh seafood entrees that makes you forget there are a row of barstools right next to you. Prices are very fair, considering the flavor and freshness you are getting. And of course a wide variety of draft, import, domestic and micro brews(wooo boy, Murphy’s!), along with a surprisingly healthy compliment of wines. Saúde!

Went to the Arena District yesterday to get some lunch at BDs Mongolian BBQ, but there was an event of some sort, and the only parking available was $ 10-$ 15, so we jumped over to Grandview. Ive been to their other locations, and the chow is consistently good, and this visit was no exception. We got the deep fried mushrooms as an appetizer, and they were outstanding! Beer battered in-house, hot and crunchy on the outside, and moist and tender on the inside. She got the Hot Italian, which is basically a sub sandwich served on a square ciabatta bun with a side of broccoli. She said it was excellent, but her broccoli was only lukewarm. I got the scallops and chips which were excellent. It came with coleslaw which was, well, meh. Our biggest observation was the service, which was surprising because there were only a few people in the whole restaurant. She was nice enough, but was very slow to our every need, and frankly, rather ditzy. We had to ask her 3 times for a slice of lemon for her water. She also brought out my meal first, saying they were just finishing hers up. A couple minor dings I suppose, but we are big fans of the grub.

I love their food. I will not go to a chain restaurant again to get boneless chicken wings. They have some of the best I’ve ever had. Fried pickles are also amazing. Recently tried fish and chips and was very impressed. Just tried the quesadilla and was amazed with the quality and size for the price. Try their veggie kabobs instead of fries for a clean and healthy side.

I met Mike G. here yesterday for lunch and had a very nice time. We both had fish and chips; I got the sandwich and Mike got the platter. I’m going to get the platter from now on; more fish. Like his other stores this one is very nice inside and you can eat either at the bar, at table near the bar, or in a booth in the other room. Besides the fish, I’ve had some other dishes and you can’t go wrong with any of them.

I had been having a hankering for some really good fish and chips and got that crave satisfied here today. Had lunch with Paul«Give Me The Spicy Wontons» F. at this little Grandview restaurant today. Pub style interior with it’s warm and cozy look. There’s just enough stuff on the wall for visual appeal but nothing over the top. Fish and Chips were $ 12.99 with enough for two meals. Fresh beer battered fish filet. It’s fried to a crispy golden brown with some fries and cole slaw on the side. I also got myself a Guinness. The food was out in less than 15 minutes. The only thing not great was their cole slaw. It was a little too sweet for my taste. I’m glad we checked this place out. Tip: There’s not a lot of parking right near the pub so you might want to go early or at an off time or you might have to hoof it a bit.

We took a large group here yesterday, and we really liked this pub. Their happy hour is long and great! It’s only 2 bucks for 20 oz Miller Lites. Not my favorite beer, but I’m a sucker for a good deal. There’s also $ 2 off craft beers for you beer snobs and $ 2 off appetizers. For dinner, I got the chicken fingers entrée, and it was good but not great. I did like how accommodating the staff was to our party, and there was even a magician going around to entertain the tables. I would definitely go back to OBNP for happy hour or to sit on their patio.

*Greater than the sum of its parts* This bar/restaurant is nestled on first avenue between a laundromat and a coffee house. The parking can sometimes be a challenge but is often easily accessible. The Good: They offer a wide selection of food options and have an extensive selection of draft beers available. We have been coming here for years and usually come in a sizable group(4 – 6 people) and the staff are typically very accommodating. The bartenders and servers here are terrific and deserve most of the credit as to why we keep coming back. The Bad: Watch out for the older-lady with the crazy socks who seats you; she is one of the most unfriendly people you’ll ever meet. Who decided to have her as a greeter? Not a good 1st impression if you’re new to the restaurant. Also; after you leave the restaurant, you usually smell like grease. I’m not sure what causes that but it could be hindering your customer base.

Fine pubs are hard to find these days. One where the sum of the parts synergies into something much better than the whole. A pub in the classic sense is not a fine dining establishment. It’s not a craft beer Mecca or a pale where oenophiles seek out for sitting around, sipping and nibbling on cheese. It’s not a dance club. It’s a place where people can convene and enjoy a little bit of everything. A decent beer list with 4 rotating craft beer selections with a large selection of macro beers. A good food list with dependable fare. Of which, the fish and chips are crispy, flaky, light, fluffy and delicious. Chips are good too. A standout. Friendly bartenders and waitstaff with smiles on their faces. They treat you well. It looks like a pub, smells like a pub, and tastes like a pub. Go have a drink and eat some food.

I like it, I don’t love it. This is a pub in every sense of the word. The beer list is good, but not long at all, mostly stouts and seasonal brews — at least when i went there. The food is average at best. I ordered a chicken caesar wrap and the tortilla was partially stale and the entire wrap was very bland. Not bad, just meh. I’ll probably go back, but only for those nights when I can’t decide on anything else.

It’s a pub, what can you expect? I’m partial because I live within walking distance, and even at 10:15 p.m. when the kitchen closes at 11:00 p.m. we can grab some beers and good food. Many places make you feel rushed when you come in within the witching hour of closing. Not Old Bag staff. We were greeted as if genuinely welcomed and they were glad we were there(bad tips night? JK). The fish and chips are excellent. There are daily fish specials — check ‘em out. Only one IPA available, though, booo. It’s Dog Fish Head, so, ok, we’re ok again. For pub food, it’s some good eatin’! Buffalo chicken wrap is highly recommended. If you like reubens, they have three options. All in all, good neighborhood pub. In the summer the patio is a nice place to kick back and chill.

Standard pub fare — nothing too out of the ordinary, but every time I leave I’m satisfied so I cannot complain! Love the Pub House Salad with the warm bacon vinaigrette! Bleu cheese, red onions, tomatoes, bacon and croutons — simple, but that vinaigrette takes it to another level. I’ve also had my fair share of fried pickles here, which are ‘spears’ instead of ‘chips’, and that makes all the difference in my book.

Meh. The beer list isn’t bad. However, this feels like the most suburban bar in existence. There is little to no creativity in the atmosphere. It feels like a paint-by-numbers Irish pub in a strip mall… which is exactly what it is. The pub food menu is okay, but nothing all that interesting. The bartenders are friendly. If you live nearby, this is a decent fallback solution if you don’t feel like going far from home, but I certainly wouldn’t seek it out. It’s really just pretty dull.

I am a fan of Old Bag of Nails. I’ve been to nearly every location in Columbus, and this one has the honor of being my first. I remember several years ago with my brother, his girlfriend and my parents, having my first Reuben — and no Reuben has ever lived up to the first one. Also — FRIEDFUCKINGPICKLES. That was a first for me. The all-you-can-eat specials, the pub food, the good atmosphere — it makes me wish I lived in Grandview so I could come here more often.

Worst experience I’ve had at an Old Bag establishment. I usually go to the one in Gahanna where I’ve never had bad food or service. The service in Grandview was pretty good, but the food was awful. My girlfriend ordered a buffalo chicken wrap which came with chicken that tasted and looked like it was about 4 days old. I was served clam chowder that had obviously been reheated from at least a day, if not two, ago. Philly Cheese steak sandwich was awful. Again the meat tasted like it was microwaved from coming straight out of the freezer. Yes they’re known for fish, and I’ve always enjoyed it, but their other food was horrrrrrible. And the fries we had were burnt to a crisp, and those come with fish, so not sure you could win at this place that night.
