I checked out a book for my 2 year old through Commerce(inter-library loan). I was checking out a few kid books that day and the book never made it into my possession, but I didn’t realize until I got home. I called Commerce and they said it wasn’t going to be a problem since they would write a note in my file. However, when they and I called the other library after the book was due they said that it was my responsibility. How can I be responsible for a book that I never received!!! Had I known that there was going to be an issue then I would have called that other library directly the day that it happened instead of just contacting Commerce. Now I have to pay for a book that I don’t even own nor have I seen. Very dissatisfied with how Commerce handled the communication between their library and their patron.

One of the best libraries I’ve been to so far in the NW Oakland County, MI area. They really do have a place for everyone here. Most impressive was the Teen section. It just wasn’t relegated to a little area of bookshelves or sign on a wall. Teens visiting the Commerce Public Library have a large room that resembles a cyber café with booths, tables, and separate computer stations all to themselves. There are several computer stations for adults to use and tables with laptop power stations near the tables in the magazine area. Nice touch! I’ve run out of juice before at other libraries and thought I was just S.O.L. The kids area also has a decent amount of computer stations and lots of books. Private, closed off study rooms can be reserved for 2 or more people. The is also a multi-function document/printer station tucked in a corner and the usual community meeting room. You have to leave the library and go into the big foyer/main entrance area to use the bathrooms, which are large… the women’s anyway. You can also drop off old eyeglasses and used books for donation here, too. Water fountains and drink machines are available inside. Lots of e-and-download services based on the posted signs. The township really seems to have invested their money building this place where it counts(especially when compared to the excessive super-beamed ceiling at the Milford library). Fantastic place! The kid and I will be back!
