Boom baby it took me 5 years to bring the family. Now I can add lighting fast service on top of great Sushi at a great price

Excellent lunch place in Concord. The portions are generous and the service is attentive. The prices are also very reasonable. Hamachi kama — large portion and can easily be a meal for one or two depending on your appetite. Calamari — not bad. Kind of like onion rings but the batter is a tad thick for me. Lunch specials — good quality, affordable

Little hole in the wall in Concord, my BF brought me here for our first date and the rest was history. Lol ;P Anyway, this place is one of the best spots you’ll get in Pleasant Hill/Concord! They have good portions of sushi and it’s fulfilling! 90% of the time you’ll also get a roll on the house which is pretty awesome. Ive never ordered something that I didn’t like and finish. The service here is good, can lack on busy nights and it does get filled on the weekends so call ahead to avoid wait time. You also get complimentary miso soup and a salad. Really affordable prices too for sushi without hurting your wallet!

This place has become our go-to local sushi place for two reasons: Its close, and its good. A nice little thing is that they always bring soup and edamame instead of having to ask for it. I also have to mention their generous use of fish for nigiri sushi. We get about 3 orders of basic salmon and it always seems like a huge piece of fish with less rice, which is great. It’s also very affordable for a weekly or bi-weekly visit, and the good quality fish keeps me coming back(along with the 5 min drive).

The food was delicious! Best beef teriyaki I’ve ever had! HOWEVER, the service wasn’t as great as the food. They charged my girlfriend and I twice and even insisted that our bill came out to $ 60 — when we only ordered 2 rolls and a beef teriyaki plate… not only that but we had to ask the servers ourselves to take out order, and even then they weren’t willing to help us. We had to wait 10 minutes just to get some water. TL;DR Great food but bad service

2.5÷5− Rounded up for nice service My friend and I were looking for a place where she could get her rolls fix and I could get my chirashi-fix. We settled with Sushi Momoyama after seeing the reviews. This is a Korean-Japanese sushi restaurant so you will get some options like the«Korean chirashi». The service is nice and the food is pretty fast. They did forget our tea at one point but the freebies makeup for the bit of forgetfulness. They gave each person free edamame, salad, and miso soup. They even gave us a small free roll. While it was sweet of them to do this I just can’t say I enjoyed the food very much. I got the chirashi and an order of the escolar nigiri and my friend got the Monument Blvd and we shared a Playboy Roll. The chirashi was decent. They did give some of your typical variety(salmon, albacore, escolar, eel, hamachi). Nothing too out there but it was a decent amount. The fish quality was average to below average(my friend has a sensitive stomach found it to be below average– anything that’s not super fresh makes her sick). The fish’s flavor was a bit lacking but the rice had ok flavor and texture. I also appreciated that they didn’t give giant slabs of fish and instead made decent medium-thin cuts but for $ 20 there are better chirashi deals out there with more variety and better quality.(2.5÷5) The escolar nigiri was fine. The rice was too packed and it just had too much rice in general. I kind of regret ordering it after realizing my chirashi came with it.(2.5÷5) Playboy Roll and Monument Blvd. My friend said they both tasted very similar despite listing what seemed like different ingredients. I only had the playboy roll. The sauce wasn’t too heavy and the crunchy topping they used retained its crispiness for a while. Not a bad roll but nothing special. Rice was really packed on it and I got sick of it pretty quickly.(2.5÷5) Overall, this place has some nice service and if you’re not too obsessive about getting the best quality of fish, it’s a perfectly ok place to get your sushi fixings. The price is decent for the amount you receive.

Located in Plaza Concordia, you can easily miss the entrance to the parking lot(which is small and very limited). The restaurant is small and always packed, so expect a wait. Fairly dim lighting inside. No outdoor seating. Our Order Chirashi:($ 19.95) 15 pcs Sashimi Combination:($ 22.95) 16 pcs Lambada:($ 9.95) tuna, salmon topped with avocado & special sauce Free roll: crab, avocado, jalapeño, spicy aioli Chirashi had the same fish with more sides than the Sashimi Combo. Fish a lot more fresh than I had expected for the area. Service was good and even surprised us with a free roll. Very out of the way for us, but we were on the way to Sacramento. Would come back if in the area.

While I don’t think Momoyama has the freshest fish(especially the tuna), this restaurant has definitely earned my respect over the numerous years I have visited this establishment through the value of the meal you get. Complimentary barley tea can be served instead of water and immediately after ordering, one is given edamame, salad, and miso soup. Rolls can be as cheap as $ 6 and this time we also got 2 extra rolls on the house after they messed up my order. The salmon this time was decently fresh, which is something I definitely look for. Servers were friendly and efficient. Not the classiest sushi restaurant, but definitely a great meal for a decent price. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone eating on a budget.

I thought I would venture to a new sushi place for lunch today. Sushi Momoyama is in an unassuming strip mall that you would miss if you weren’t searching for it. On your way to Costco… blink…and you just passed it. Once you use your GPS then you are set. Food: Miso soup and some edamame arrives to your table before making an order. I ordered the Volcano minus cream cheese(bleh, in sushi?) and the Lambada roll. My pic doesn’t describe how large the Volcano is. So many tempura crunchies. And I can’t believe that I’m going to say this, it was too much. The crunchies were fresh but the tempura shrimp inside had no crunchy texture and tasted rather leftover. I was very surprised to receive a deep fried roll filled with imitation crab. I had one piece but I couldn’t eat anymore because I was so full. Service: Very good and attentive. Ambiance: Fun décor and vibrant atmosphere Maybe I need to order a lunch special and try some sashimi to really taste the quality of the fish.

I would honestly rate this place 3.5 stars — but I’m rounding up. I want to preface this by saying I’m no sushi expert — not the hugest fan of japanese food in general — so take this with a grain of salt. Came here for lunch with my mama dearest on a Sunday. It wasn’t crowded at all so we were seated immediately. Menu is pretty extensive. We ordered the crunchy roll and the lion king roll. They gave us a couple of free pieces on the house — awesome! Also given miso soup, salad, and edamame. Edamame was unsalted. Overall, really liked the crunchy roll. Love the texture(of course) and the flavor was pretty good. They do stack it with rice, but I love rice so no problem. However, the lion king roll was very fishy. It looked like they had just cut the skin off the salmon and baked it on top — so there was no feeling of actual meat there and ended up tasting more fishy than I would have liked. I hate that fishy flavor personally so I didn’t end up eating much of the roll. I would give the food 3 stars, but given the free sushi pieces, no wait, and the friendly service, it’s a +.5 stars.

***UPDATE*** Came her last night and to my surprise from my last visit, they remodeled a little bit. Very nice to what it was before and our service was great as always. The staff is so sweet and accommodating. We even had a roll on the house. :) So one thing that I wasn’t a huge fan of was the fact that their rolls were so big because they put so much rice, BUT last night, I noticed that not only did they use less rice, but there were a lot of new stuff on the menu. The servings are also really big so you can share with everyone. After we placed our order, salads and miso soup came out. Everything was delicious. My son ordered the chicken katsu, I had the salmon skin hand roll and volcano roll and my boyfriend ordered the chicken karaage and gyoza. Everything was delicious! I will definitely be back more often! Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Stopped by yesterday for lunch since we were in the area and craving some sushi, and I was so disappointed! This was the first Japanese restaurant that pulled up on Unilocal,so I couldn’t believe it! Anyways, we were seated quickly because we got there before people started to roll in. Miso soup and salad was on the house which was a nice touch, but I wasn’t a fan of their dressing. It tasted like straight up ketchup and mayo mixed together and that’s it. We ordered 3 rolls and the chicken karaage appetizer to share. I personally don’t like rolls to be covered in unnecessary sauce, so I already knew this might not be my type of restaurant, but putting the sauce aside, the rolls had too much rice and not enough fish, the fish wasn’t as fresh, and the rolls were pretty small. The chicken karaage was salty and just not up to par. I’ve eaten as some really good Japanese restaurants, and this just doesn’t cut it. Won’t be coming back. I only gave 2 stars because our watiers/waitresses were very friendly and attentive. Other than that, the food really is 1 star.

The best thing about this restaurant is their generosity on food. They always offer more than you order: complimentary dish. And their food are good. I love their hew dup bap and fried chicken(karahghe). Servers are very kind. Price is better than other local japanese restaurant. Why not 5 star? When I order to go one day, the spicy sauce for the hew dup dap was missing(Lucky them I know how to make it. so I did myself) and for the udon, they said the noodle and soup would be packed separately but it was in one bowl together so the noodle became too bloated. But it’s ok. they got a lot more credit to be forgiven.

My wanderings about with fellow creatures led me to Sushi Momoyama. I had been craving Japanese food that day, and a recommendation from my party was received with delight ad we soon found ourselves being seated in this pleasant and nicely decorated place. First thing I noticed was that this momoyama has quite a large menu! Lots of interesting choices and a variety of very appetizing sounding sushi rolls. I only wish I had seen my favorite natto somewhere on the menu, but I know that its sort of a selected taste for most people. I decided to get the Chicken Katsu, and as well, our group decided to share a Titanic roll. One thing that always is a slight annoyance to me is when restaurants serve ones dish way before they serve anothers. In this case, me and my luv got our dishes quickly, but our companion ended up getting his dish quite a bit later than we did. Being polite, we waited for his dish to arrive, but the fact it took so long meant our dishes getting cold. Thats on us of course, but still it does end up being a rather awkward situation. As for the dishes themselves, I really REALLY enjoyed the katsu I had and can honestly say that it was the most flavor filled katsu Ive ever had, Not too oily, perfectly tender, great flavor in the breading. Fantastic. I was confused though when my luvs katsu came with katsu sauce, but mine didn’t. I asked a server for katsu sauce and she said should bring it right away. Sadly, it never came. U. U Luckily, there was enough sauce that I could share, but it is a bit frustrating when something is asked and never arrives. The complimentary sushi roll was nice and unexpected! I suppose when you order over a certain amount, they give you a complimentary roll. This is a nice touch. Overall, I really did enjoy the food here, but the annoyance of different serving time, and never getting the katsu sauce that came an a duplicate dish definitely knocked down some stars for this cat *chirp!*

For years, I’ve held Sushi Momoyama in such high regard. I thought, «man, how could such a legit sushi joint — a neighborhood favorite — be in a podunk strip mall off Monument Boulevard?» After my last few visits, I’ve become more disillusioned, with the food being not as good as I’d remembered it, no free rolls(which was my main selling point when I brought my boyfriend there), and this last visit was the last straw. We went at 1:45 on a Sunday afternoon, thinking we had enough time to get in before they closed for lunch service at 3:00. As usual, there was a long line to get in, without a lot of room to wait inside. A lot of families with small children. I wrote my name down with a note that our party was here and we were waiting out side, and I communicated the same thing to the hostess. After waiting outside for 45 minutes, at 2:30, we saw that the staff had flipped over the«open» sign in the door to «closed.» My boyfriend went inside, and they explained that the kitchen does a hard close at 3 p.m., but assured us that since we were here, we would be seated. We did get seated, thank goodness, and were rushed through our meal. Interestingly, people that got seated after us got their soup and edamame first. The lunch specials were bento boxes of fair value(a combo of salad, rice, salmon teriyaki, about 6 slices of sushi rolls for about $ 11), but the food was not super high quality or amazing. The fish was slightly dry, and the rolls were just okay. No free roll this time either, which was not to be expected with the kitchen closing so soon after we were seated. By the time we finished eating, only one other table was still in the restaurant. They asked us to pay the bill before we were done eating«because they were closed.» It just felt really unwelcoming and like we were not valued. I also had to ask for a tea refill during the meal. This was especially a bummer because I wanted to show my mom how great this place was, but between the long wait, the not-super-hospitable service, and the blah food, I felt bad that the meal was not a better experience. Disappointing.

How do I note have a review here?! Momoyama is like a decent looking girl with a awesome attitude and is super chill. When I started coming here a few years ago, it was often on off hours. It seemed like they always gave us a roll or two on the house. I thought, how long could this last? However they continue to offer something on the house even during peak. The staff remember who we are and some of the things that we consistently order. That is cool! There are plenty of other places in the area to go, but they have earned my business with their service, price, and awesome attitude! What did I learn today? The Warriors game was on. You would have thought that it was a Finals game based on the reactions of the people watching the game.

Come here pretty regularly. Always crowded on the weekends. Weekday lunch is less crowded. FOOD — 3.5*** — the sushi is good but definitely not the best. I ordered the nabeyaki udon and was so impressed by the amount of food they gave me. It was yummy too. Definitely recommend it. RESTAURANT — 3*** — a little tight and squishy. Semi-clean. SERVICE — 4**** — good service. Always gives complementary sushi roll, soup, and salad on the house which is super nice!!!

The first time I tried this place, I vowed to never come back. That was because all the rolls we ordered had imitation crab loaded on the top. However, I decided to give this place another try the other night. We sat at the bar near the sushi chef. However, that’s where the chefs place all their finished orders. We didn’t mind because we were starving and wanted to sit. It was super busy on a Thursday night, and we came right at rush hour. We waited about 30 minutes for our Korean chirashi, and volcano roll. We didn’t mind because we got free miso and said and edamame. Super happy. When we finally got our food, we got a free order of fatty toro on top of that. The chef must have saw the starvation in my eyes and felt sorry for me. Haha Food was great on this occasion and service was good. Parking lot is kinda sketch and very small.

Did I. stumble in at the wrong time?! It’s honestly possible my experience was a fluke, but I unfortunately don’t think so because everything was fine except for the food. And every single roll was disappointing, even the complimentary one that I shouldn’t complain about because it was. well, complimentary. It took me quite a while to find this restaurant as I’m not too familiar with the area, and upon walking in, my first impression was that everything was quite dim. The lighting is meant to give a semblance of intimacy I’m sure, but it was so dim I had trouble reading the menu. Service was friendly and prompt, and I have to give the waiters and waitresses their due credit for being so on top of tea refills that I never had to ask(which I think is a first for me because I drink about ten cups of tea per meal). The general service gave me a positive first impression, but I just could not overlook the disappointing quality of the food itself. Complimentary roll(Godzilla, I believe?): ( ) I was pleasantly surprised by this complimentary roll, and it was a very kind gesture on the part of the management. It’s also a great way to make a good first impression. The roll itself was, however, not very good. The rice was rolled very loosely so that it fell apart at the slight nudge of chopsticks, the filling was equally loose and very sparse, and the globules of sauce dolloped over the top looked pretty darn unappetizing as far as presentation was concerned. I was starving at the time so the roll didn’t necessarily taste bad, but I could tell that the shrimp had been pre-fried and retained some of that stale oil flavor of fried foods which are left out for a bit after frying. Amigo Roll(no cream cheese): ( ) This roll was made with more care, but it still didn’t quite hold up to chopsticks. The fillings were also quite uneven, the fried portion on top again didn’t taste fresh, and the dollops of sauce were overwhelming. There was also too much teriyaki sauce drenched on the bottom, which made the rice and pretty much every bite soggy. Rattlesnake roll: ( ) This roll may have consisted one of the most disappointing-looking unagi toppers I’ve ever seen on a sushi roll. The unagi was colorless and mealy, not to mention that there were erratic pieces scattered over the top. The interior was better-made than the previous two rolls, but there seemed to be some sort of inconsistency with the inside and outside. perhaps these rolls were made via assembly line mechanisms? Ichiban roll: ( ) When this roll was served, I think I actually cringed at the presentation. There were three tiny slices of ginger on one side, a splattering of sauce drizzled over the plate, and the pieces were so unevenly cut and placed that they were shifting on the plate themselves. Taste was unmemorable to say the least, but by the time this last roll was served, I wasn’t too interested in eating any more. One thing about the rolls that I noticed almost immediately was how similar they all tasted. The ingredients varied by a large degree from shrimp to fish to unagi, but the sauces drizzled on top seemed to have no variation. It’s hard to enjoy food when it all tastes uniform, and the generic blandness becomes uninteresting very quickly. Despite the good service and compliments of the house, I have to say I don’t believe I’ll be back. I can see why this place is popular, but I do believe that the general positive sentiment comes from areas other than the actual food.

Greatest sushi place in the area. They have rolls for around $ 8+, not a bad price at all. Tonight I ordered: Lambada, amazing. Brother, amazing. Godzilla, pretty good. Not a big fan of imitation crab which is why I give the Godzilla roll a low score. Everyone I come here there is always a free roll. This may be the only sushi restaurant that gives free rolls. Only con about this place is the space. It is pretty cramped in there. Especially when you are waiting for your table. It is quite uncomfortable. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who wants good sushi.
