We came yesterday night on a cold, windy, rainy, night to celebrate birthdays for three of us. We had a party of 10 which included a picky 6 year old and a 2 month old baby. We came early because it can be crowded on the weekends and they had to put tables together to seat all of us. We haven’t been here lately(because now we live out of state and our kids are grown) but we came together because three of us had a birthdays this week. My daughter had a craving for Godzilla and Hollywood rolls, and I had a craving for Japanese food. Tachi was always our go to restaurant for Japanese food so we decided to go again. I noticed complaints about sushi size. As long as it’s good I don’t see why size matters. Why do we have to supersize everything? My daughter wasn’t bothered by the size and enjoyed her sushi. Back in the day, the sauce for sushi was soy sauce you maybe mixed with wasabi. These days they make sushi with all kinds of ingredients and all kinds of sauces; so, if you are not sure about the sauces ask for it on the side. I forgot what everyone had but no one complained about their food. I noticed the review that commented on the green tea. I didn’t have green tea but have in the past and never had a problem there either. There are many varieties of green tea from many countries as well but maybe your green tea needed more water? Their food is consistently good. I used to judge Japanese restaurants on their tempura and we first started coming here because their tempura was light crispy and hot. I haven’t tried everything on the menu but my fav«Tempura Dinner» is always good. I tend to always get tempura because it is a mess to make at home, this time however I got the beef teriyaki. The beef teriyaki was tender not chewy and fatty like some other places. My son commented he likes his beef teriyaki more rare and probably a bigger cut of meat. The price at Tachi is inexpensive because it’s a family restaurant and if you are talking wagu or kobe beef you are talking about a more high end restaurant. We live in Las Vegas we know high end and you pay through the nose for it too.
In fact I was impressed on how fast our food came and how they got all our orders right. I was impressed with how accommodating they were. My daughter was happy with her sushi. the Godzilla roll and Hollywood roll. My husband was happy with his tempura dinner. The two month old happily slept the whole time. The six year old was still picky. I forgot what everyone else had but nobody complained and a good time was had by all. I’ve read the negative reviews and for all the times we’ve gone here, we never had a problem. I think the staff are the same people that have served us in the past. I left my purse there once and didn’t notice till later. I called and they found my purse for me and held it till I came to pick it up. They are very honest people. That counts for a lot in my book. My only complaint was that the Gyoza appetizers were all stuck together and hard to pull apart. Since I was one of the birthday people I didn’t pay the bill so I can’t really comment on price variations from menu to bill. Also, the menu had the word Donburi misspelled as Donbury. I didn’t even notice it till my sister pointed it out. It should be spelled Donburi. Still a typo won’t affect the service or your food.

I can get over not receiving miso soup for to-go orders because the food has always been so good from this restaurant! Bumping them up a star.

This place is pretty affordable as far as sushi goes & the fish is always fresh. They do tend to go heavy on the sauces(on some maki rolls) so I recommend asking for lite sauce or «on the side», if that’s not something you like. I do like that the rolls are not monstrous like at some places. Sushi is meant to be bite size, or close to… I love the Paradise 33 roll — if you are a sushi fan I highly recommend it. Service: I have definitely experienced the«not-so-friendly» vibe that others have mentioned, but other times they have been very warm. They are always pretty quick to get your food out, which is nice & I have never felt rushed. I have eaten here probably 10+ times & have always been satisfied.

Tried this place for this first time and was terribly disappointed. The rolls were small, sloppy and didn’t taste fresh. Service was okay. Cleanliness was average. Even the gyoza were sub-par. I won’t be back.

Definitely one of the better places to have Sushi in the area. As some of the other reviews stated this place is consistently good.

This place is pretty average at best. The good news: The place is a very short distance from my house, so walking is not a problem. The bad news: I will never be coming back here, so the distance does not matter. The staff wear the best fake smiles I have ever seen. Catch it quick, because as soon as you see the smile appear on their face, just like that it’s gone. They are very short with all the customers, almost throwing the checks down on the tables before quickly scurrying away. The green tea was VERY fragrant, and really tasted funny. I ordered the Steve’s maki roll, and a spicy tuna roll. Both rolls looked the same when they were brought out on the same plate: Six small pieces, covered in sauce. I have never had a spicy tuna roll with sauce on it, except maybe from Safeway, and never this much of it. The only way to know the difference was to try each one. Steve’s roll comes with yellow fin tuna, and another type of fish I can’t remember. The fish on the rolls did taste fresh; however, the rice was extremely gummy, and at points hard to swallow. On top of everything else, the price of the spicy tuna roll was more expensive than shown on the menu. Update your menus!

We love this place. Heard mixed reviews from friends so we decided to be the judges ourselves and weren’t disappointed. The hand rolls were great but the Jesse roll is hands down our go to. The sashimi plates we have ordered on 3 occasions have been fresh and the fish melts in your mouth. Best sushi I’ve ever had? No. But pretty darn good. No complaints here :-)

The food is always good. The service could be better and they can be a bit more friendly. But overall good experience.

I still somewhat enjoy their food, but it’s grown a little mediocre. Also, the quality of service has definitely gone down. A woman waitress in particular is often rude, scowling, and seemingly annoyed with customers. I’m on the hunt for another local sushi joint.

A decent little place in Clayton/Concord if you want Japanese food and some sushi or sashimi. Usually pretty busy but staff and service are good and move it along. Kids like it too. They tend to over sauce sometimes so take charge of that when ordering rolls. Parking can sometimes be a challenge.

Too much sauce & not at all spicy. Eh… probably won’t come back. The restaurant was fairly empty and yet the service was incredibly slow.

If you’re like me, always ask for the sauces that come with the rolls, on the side. Some people really like it heavy, but I’m not one of them, I prefer to taste the fish and I feel like the sauces overpower that a lot of the time. Love the Don’s Hand Roll: Real crab tempura, avocado, daikon sprout, flying fish roe w/house spicy sauce and Don’s Maki: Fresh scallop in roll, topped with fresh salmon, avocado, tobiko, house spicy sauce, green onion & sesame seeds. The sushi chefs are great behind the bar, I recommend sitting up there if you are just one or two people. TO-GO service is also great, never had anything missing from the box and always looks just as good as it does in the restaurant. Usually takes only 15 – 20 minutes from ordering unless otherwise noted by the staff. I wish that table service was better. It just gets frustrating always waiting on the bill, and having to ask for things more than once. I shouldn’t feel like I’m a burden asking for an extra plate, or for a soy sauce dish. Also, things come out of order often, or all at once. If you have time, and aren’t shy waving down the wait staff and sometimes hollering to get their attention, then by all means.

The food is amazing. The sushi is high quality for sure, but you have to pay for it. The environment and furnishings are nice. For the price, the service is pretty mediocre.

So we decided to give this place another try because our previous experience was blah and… I must say it continues to be blah. I was hoping for great not just okay tasting food. It was just okay. The edamame was warm so that was a plus but flavorless. The gyoza was also lackluster. The roll I ordered seemed full of promise, of a great untapped flavor potential but it only left me wanting for something more… Unfortunately we won’t be returning.

I feel like tachi is good for the people who are trying sushi for the first time. I used to love it until I started trying different places. It’s good, but nothing special in my opinion and you can definitely find way better sushi elsewhere. I only come here for take out if I’m too lazy to drive to the place I usually go to. Side note: the beef teriyaki plate is really good-I had it a week or so ago and the meat was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth. If I’m ever craving that I would totally come to tachi to get that.

3 star. Could have been 4 if the rolls were bigger and spicy really meant spicy. Service was slow. Food taste good.

Showed up here for their lunch. There was only one waitress serving the whole dining area. No biggie… She seen us walk in and instructed us to sit down. She took our order quite hastily and brought our soups shortly after. There were three of us but two soups were brought. She walked away so fast we had to to wait for her to get back. Once she did we told her we should have another soup. She told us no because we only ordered w lunches… We were like… Uhhh noooo. We ordered three. One beef teriyaki and two chickens. As if why would you disagree with us? She was the one that took our order too. Well she brings the soup and leaves in a hurry again. Now here we are with the missing soup and now soup spoon to eat it with. We once again wait for her to get close to ask for the spoon. Look i get it. You are semi-busy… But don’t make the patrons feel like we are being a burden to your day. This is my first time here so i can’t assume what the service is like at any other time of the day. Im not going to rule them out just yet but so far my experience of feeling welcomed is not there. Something that is important to any restaurant atmosphere. *PAUSEFOODJUSTGOTHERE* Nice portions on the lunch bento box which includes tempura, salad, rice, pickled veggies, your meat of choice and a orange slice for around $ 9. My beef teriyaki was a tad bit on the luke warm side however the beef was very tender and juicy. It was easily cut with my fork alone. Far from dry rubbery like other places I’ve been. It actually made me forget about the customer service mishap earlier into the lunch lol. Well i easily forgive too. So conclusion don’t mind what would seem as abrasive customer service. Unless its common. I believe it was an isolated incident today and not a usual factor to this place. The beef they use here is juicy and tender and is a definite must try when your pallete desires it. I will be back for it soon myself! Perhaps on my next visit my review will change and bump up the star rating because this place definitiely is great and has potential.

The food is ok, the service is just so-so. We were a party of 6, seated reasonably promptly for a weekday night, however we did notice, as we were near the front door, that several people were not greeted promptly, and some were never greeted at all and eventually just left. Our waiter had to be reminded to bring appetizers to three of our party who ordered them, which he did quickly. It took a while for our food to arrive, but we understand that the sushi rolls need to be prepared, and it gave us time to socialize. My tempura was hot and crispy. My husband got the Hollywood roll, he liked it well enough, but neither item was particularly outstanding. The others seemed to enjoy their selections. All in all, I’d go back, but there are better Asian restaurants out there.

The service was so so. I asked for a water without ice and they brought a glass of steaming hot water. It too several minutes to flag someone down to bring me a room temperature water. The sushi is okay. Small portions, way too much very sticky sweet rice. The variety offered is decent for such a small location. The hot roll was the best thing that we had, which in my opinion is not saying much for a sushi establishment.
