Came here during the Mermaid Parade because Mitch E told us it was the best place to chill out with beers while waiting for the parade to reach the boardwalk. And he wasn’t wrong. Ruby’s is old school Brooklyn, through and through. There are black and white photos of famous people who have stopped by. There are pieces of boardwalk hanging from the ceiling. There’s a gigantic American flag because America is the greatest country in the world. And they have fried beach food. Most importantly, they have booze. Out front, they have a cash bar, for quick in/out, but inside they take cards(no Amex though) and have a wider selection of booze. Inside, it got pretty rowdy, especially once the parade is over. But if you can snag a table, you can just chill out for a bit and watch in awe at how long the women’s bathroom line is. Fun times.

Too expensive! 10 mixed drinks, 7.00 beer ugh this is Coney Island Not Manhattan! I would go else where!

Dear lord. I spent $ 15(plus $ 2 tip!) on a beer and a glass of wine from a plastic bottle? $ 17?! What?! Wouldn’t it make more sense to charge me half as much and give me the illusion of value so I’d continue to order drinks, and subsequently come back? I feel so taken advantage of that I can’t bring myself to come back. Good luck this summer, Ruby.

Total shithole. Drinks are even worse, think $ 10 for a weak jack and coke. Bartenders are the mutant seeds of the greedy owner. If you’re into getting ass raped and over paying for it this the perfect place. Cheers!

Ruby’s used to be a great place to go to enjoy a few cheap drinks. Not anymore! A tiny margarita that contained no alcohol whatsoever and a glass of guiness set us back $ 28! Not sure how that is justifiable. Will never be back.

The burger has nothin but beef and bread. No tomatoe, no lettuce, no pickles, sauce or anything. It’s expensive for what you get, a small and plain sad burguer. Also, the shrimps baskets are better and less expensive in nathan’s, next to this place. We went in couse it was less crowded than nathan’s and now we know why, expensive and pretty basic.

Pretty cool crowd and bartenders that are good at their job and don’t make you wait for an eon for a drink. Their margaritas are pretty insanely good! Their beers are overpriced, but you’re on the boardwalk, what do you expect? I haven’t had the food there, so can’t say much about that. But pretty cool experience. Do note that the bar itself is big and open and filthy.

Went in the off-season, late September. Beautiful day, front of Ruby’s wide open. Fresh air ocean breeze air filled the whole place. Excellent jukebox, good pours. Fantastic looking grilled sandwiches. Diverse, good-natured crowd; locals/tourists, younger/older, various skin tones. Solid visit all the way. Will be back.

Manager or owner?(tall white dude with grey hair) stomps around the place like a toddler with a point to prove. I’ve been coming here for years and every time I’m in there he manages to treat people like shit somehow. Last night my gf and I were sitting there with drinks and they started dusting the ceiling RIGHTABOVEUS while we had open drinks. Needless to say the dust dropped into our drinks and we had to request fresh ones. Disgusting. Then, only a few minutes after last call he asked me to move to a different seat so they could sweep the floor. Are you serious? I told him he can wait till I’m done. Considering we ordered 5 rounds of drinks and were the only ones giving them any business in the last 2 hours of the night you think he’d have some basic fucking respect for customers. This guy makes you feel completely unwelcome by putting boxes of empty bottles on the bar right next to where you’re sitting. He yells at customers, people walking by, bartenders… etc. If this guy wasn’t a part of Rubys, I’d be giving them a 4 star review, but sadly he’s giving the whole establishment a bad rep. After this time at Ruby’s, I will probably be looking for alternatives. It’s just not worth it.

My coworkers who are seafood lovers kept raving about this place and desperately wanted me to check it out. Well a year later we decided to check the place out. They are located directly on the boardwalk so you simply have to walk up and order… So I am at a clam bar but guess what? They had no little neck clams! How can they call themselves a clam bar but don’t have any little neck clams? So we didn’t order, we left and went to Nathans which did have little neck clams. Get it together people! You ruined an experience that was a year in the making.

Overpriced pit, stay away. Myself and 2 friends stopped by to grab a beer and charge a cellphone. I figured it’d be find since they advertise cellphone charging to everyone on the boardwalk. So I found an outlet in the back of the restaurant near the busboy station and plug the phone in. Everything was fine for the first 20 minutes, but then some manager guy without volume control noticed the phone, yanked it out of the wall and threw it behind the bar while yelling to the bartender«someone was trying to charge their phone». Isn’t that the point? Isn’t that what you advertise? Come to find out later that they have some sort of cellphone charging system set off somewhere else that you have to pay for. No thanks, I think that by paying $ 7 a pop for one of their Ruby’s Amber beers, I’ve more than covered the .07 cents of electricity that I used to charge my battery. Not a fan of this place, their overpriced beer, or their rude staff.

Please do not go here for food! You will be ripped off due to pitiful portions. Example: $ 6 for about 2 ounces of dried out grilled chicken, no lettuce, tomato or anything, on a bun that’s as cheap as it comes. You will feel silly having not gone to Nathans next door; I know I did. The bar seemed alright, but I couldn’t bear to give them anymore money having felt robbed.

I know this is like some kind of Coney Island staple that has been around forever and was rebuilt and became sacred again but damn — those prices. This is nice for a singular drink and people watching. After I ordered what my sister wanted(Pina Colada and definitely not my usual go to drink) I regretted it instantly. It was roughly $ 9 – 10 a plastic frothy mug of Pina. It also had absolutely zero alcohol in it making my nauseating cup of sugar an even worse mistake. I understand its a beach bar and a local institution but $ 10 for a non-alcoholic frozen cocktail. I wanted to pinch(punch) myself. I’d give the place another chance next time I’m on the boardwalk which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 2. But it just reminds me of an over-priced Jeremys Ale House or something. Divey and dirty which I internally equate with cheap. There were crying babies also inside on a weekday afternoon and I left sober and more poor than when I arrived. Not a great experience.

Service is good, beers are probably a dollar or two too expensive, and it’s loud. But it’s a perfectly located beach bar on Coney Island. What exactly are you expecting?

Bar was pretty packed and the bar tenders were quite animate, and attentive. I had jack and coke, which was pretty darn good, I also had a shot of Patron. Followed by a well made, strong old school drink the classic 7 on 7. They knew exactly what it was and had no problems. Unlike other bars in Park Slope, where they give you a crazed look. Ruby’s is an old school bar, a relic of days gone by. But will always be a staple on the famed Coney Island Boardwalk. Ruby’s stay classy!

Ever read Bukowski? Want to meet some of the characters from his stories? Come on down to Ruby’s! This place is fantastic! You’re sitting at the bar with the boardwalk right outside so the people watching is second to none. The sheer variety of folks walking in and by this place cannot be beat. A friend and myself were there yesterday after a long walk in the blazing heat. While we were knocking back Coronas we were accosted by a large and very weathered woman in a skin tight yellow mesh outfit(she later took that off to dance in her cheetah print bikini!). She freaked out that she had to pay for her drink, promised us undying passion, cursed us out, and stormed off only to return. You need a sense of humor to hang here folks! Also on hand yesterday; A guy with a tan so dark he looked like a walnut with dyed black hair, a cuban shirt buttoned on the bottom button, and an extinguished cigar dangling from his mouth. Also a posse of legit central casting mobsters, beachfront locals, friendly thugs, and some dude who was making full use of the bathroom with no door on the stall. Ruby’s is #1!!!

Boardwalk food at its… well not it’s best; after soaking up the sun at the beach, I’m not too picky. The burgers come with no toppings. No pickles on the side. A basic b*tch burger. It might as well come with leggings. Ehh, did you really expect this place to be good?

This was probably one of the worst thought plans we’ve ever had. My boyfriend and I wanted to go to The Freak Bar on Surf Ave to catch a show but since it was a Monday and they only do shows during the weekend, we decided to grab a drink at Ruby’s. The place itself is not bad– staff was polite, the place not too crowded but the clientele. Omg, the clientele. I’ve never been around so many 1-star people(degenerates) in my entire life. A few observations: 1) Two seconds after I sat down on the outside seats, two girls stormed out of the bar screaming at the top of their lungs about how they were going to sue and rambling about a lost cellphone. They come back w/boardwalk security in tow and get into a loud verbal disagreement with the management right by the entrance. Great. It’s THAT kind of place. 2) Three people with big snakes around their necks decided to park their wares by our table and hustle people into paying to have their pictures taken w/the vile reptiles thus attracting even more 1-star people. Management was too busy arguing w/the two girls that they didn’t notice this big health violation. 3) At one point, two guys come up to our table to beg for change and then proceed to harass people in line for food. 4) The two girls finally get their cellphone back and they sashay out of the place but not before playing tug of war with a t-shirt … right by the snake people. 5) Some dude w/a severe case of rosacea kept staring and scaring everyone with his red face. You don’t need to visit the Freak Bar– all the«attractions» are at Ruby’s.

My daughters name is Ruby so she always begs to go here. My friend decided she didn’t want Grimaldi’s and wanted a burger instead… huge mistake. There was basically only one girl working the entire front because everyone kept asking her everything and the poor thing kept running all over the place. Their Icee’s taste like they are from 7⁄11. The burgers were gross. Chicken strips I’m guessing came from Costco. Some peoples kid was crawling all over us while we tried to «eat» if that’s what it’s called when you shove substances that resemble a food product into your face. Oh and every soda we ordered was«out». It was nice and big inside, but maybe it just seemed huge from lack of customers. The original boardwalk is not worth the time. The best thing about this place was my kids name being all over it. Sorry…
