Vernon’s Kuntry Bar-B Que

This place is the most average BBQ out there. If you want some BBQ that is not good or bad, this is the right place for you. If you catch their food getting straight out, then they are decent. If you like brisket very well done you will love theirs.
The good– Fried Jalapeños, the burgers, fried pickles, sweet tea, and free refills. I guess if you want to feel real «country» this is the environment for you.
The decent– Ribs, but you can find better ribs 2 blocks in any direction, and potato salad.
The bad– Brisket so dry I am getting thirsty just writing about it. Mac n Cheese that looks great but has no taste.

BBQ and fried mushrooms were pretty good. I like onions on my sandwich, but not when they are almost an inch thick…

Restrooms located outside in the backside of the restaurant.
Employees were friendly.

Saturday, April 23^rd stopped in for lunch. Rode my Harley 3 wheeler with my sister-​n-​law. The girl at the counter refused to take our order. Another girl said she would. We are 61 yr. old women with short hair. I keep mine short due to swimming everyday in my pool. My sister-​n-​law had her hair shaved due to brain surgery. The first counter girl assumed we are gay. Our deceased husbands and us always rode motorcycles. I will make sure this goes viral on social media. So just keep on refusing service to people who don’t look like you want/​expect them to.

I decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews for it. From what I read, I was thinking I’d be getting pretty good BBQ. I was wrong, sadly.
I ordered ribs and brisket with sides of cole slaw and fries. Ribs were chewy and didn’t really fall off the bone! I’ve had ribs at grocery stores that do that! Briskets were dry and not very flavorful. The sides were fresh and great tasting!
The place is good looking enough, the people at the counter were quick to acknowledge me but didn’t really help unless you call for them. Not a huge deal.
Sadly, I left feeling the place was okay. Nothing like the reviews I read. Perhaps I came on a bad day? It was a Sunday, a fairly busy day.

The absolute best bbq ever!!! Cabbage and chicken was grilled to perfection. Tea was sweet and bbq sauce was so good!!! We sat outside and ate peanuts and enjoyed the weather.

OMG. A BBQ place both my husband and I liked. The ribs were so good and virtually no fat. «Brisket…put it on bread… I dont think so… nothing to take away from the flavor. Poato salad not my husband’s but almost as good. Really as good just different. Good variety of food.
We will definitely be back often!!!
Oh I didnt mention the staff. Is sort of set up as serve yourself but the staff treats you to good for it to feel that way. They are really sweet.

A group of co workers and I stopped in here for lunch. We got here right when they opened which was a good thing because the line builds quickly. The food was amazing, my friend had the chicken and his quote was «somebody call heaven they’re missing a chicken». Apparently it was amazing, the brisket was also fantastic and the green beans reminded me of my grandmas. All In all a great meal!

My whole family loves this place. They have a few large picnic tables inside near the juke box, a shuffle board set up against the wall, and some old arcade games in the back. They have a wide variety of options on the menu too. BBQ, burgers, stringy onion rings, grilled chicken, salad, and smaller options for the kids.
You order up at the front and they bring your food to you. Other than that it’s mostly self serve. You get your own refills and there are buckets of peanuts on all the tables. You bus your own table and leave the baskets near the trash.
I’ve gotten a loaded baked potato, a cheese burger, stringy onion rings, and even a salad and I’ve never had any complaints about my food. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re out by the lake and want to go somewhere that everyone will like.

First visit and will be the last. Bought $ 30 worth of ribs to go before we left they appeared ok. When we made it home and started to eat that’s when everything went down hill. Some ribs were tough as beef jerky and other pieces were baked blubber on a bone. I called immediately and spoke with so called management she was very nice over the phone and said they will replace them. I went back the next day, these people attempts to give me only 2 ribs saying they only credit $ 4 back and that equals 2 ribs. Well you know what happened next I had to let them know they would have to do better. We received a couple more bottom line this place is a joke, customer service sucks and the quality of food is horrible. Be aware!

This place is beautifully positioned on the side of the road, a really great setting. The meats are good, but the sides not great. The potato salad and pinto beans are the dullest. BTW, when are BBQ joints like this that are in the ‘Kuntry,’ going to start serving freshly baked bread instead of Industrialized, mass produced breads that contain enzymes, bleach and additives. Still, the slab of ‘bread’ I got made a great sponge to clean the sticky table cloth with. The place is filthy.

I LOVE Vernon’s! My family and I go there at least 5 times a week. There are so many different options to choose from. They have amazing BBQ, but they also have some good tex-​mex food and also some pretty dang good American cuisine. I would recommend this place to anyone. Great service, awesome owners and yummy food!

Very yummy! Hubby and I have been looking for good barbecue in the area that’s not a chain and we were really impressed! We had the more marbled brisket and it was so tender and juicy. Will definitely be back and will recommend!

This is getting to be a habit. We stop by Vernon’s more and more. The food is always great and we try new things all the time.
Burgers are some of the best. All the lunch specials are great especially on Thursday. Pork! Good!
BBQ is good stuff.
And the best part just go by and have a beer with friends. Try the John Rings.

Never had the barbeque. Just saying that up front. The burger, chicken sandwich, ribeye, salad and onion rings are all «middle of the road». I’d give it ⁵⁄₁₀. I’ve eaten here twice and won’t be back. There are too many other choices fur the same money.

Great BBQ and great prices. The lunch prices are even better if you can make the lunch. I will definitely be back here again

We eat at Vernon’s often. I think that their sides are pretty good, especially the pinto beans. They are actually my secret to my chili I make at home. Also, this might not sound good to everyone, but I absolutely love their half chicken because it’s flavored well but mostly because it tends to be dry. Sausage is amazing and my fiancé loves their brisket baked potatoes.
Also, I’ve had an issue where my son had an issue with his food and they noticed and fixed it without us asking.
Parking is plentiful, interior is clean and simple. Bathrooms are outside around the back of the building which can kind of be a pain depending on the weather. Staff is friendly and quick with orders and delivery of food to the table.

A great low key place to grab a bite. The barbecue when I’ve gone has been okay, but the burgers are better. A little high priced, but quality food and good portion sizes.

Probably my favorite barbecue place in Montgomery County, it is always good to great I love Vernon’s!

Went here as an alternative to the original place we were heading to. Hey, we’re in Texas. Let’s get BBQ instead. The place doesn’t look like much of anything from the outside and as you walk in you realize it is very casual. It has a picnic/​park shelter feel, but is clean and kept up. You order from the counter and find a spot.
Everyone in the group gave it rave reviews. I had the ½ Chicken and although they wouldn’t let me order just the back half, I found it to be Great! The sauce on the side (as it should be) was very good. Good Mac and Cheese and Fries.
I’ll try to find a way to go here again if I am close. If I’m in Houston and not close I’ll make up an excuse to get close. :-)

I snuck in for a quick lunch the other day at Vernon’s Kuntry BBQ. It’s located on the right-​hand side of 105 as you head West out of Conroe, TX towards Montgomery, TX. It has a big yellow sign that can’t be missed.
The parking lot was packed and there was a line for food. Must be a good sign.
Good–
Tons of options, french fries, and tater tots that certainly don’t disappoint! I ordered the BBQ beef sandwich. It had good flavor, but not too bold, so I had to add a little kick to mine and my friend order the grilled chicken sandwich with bacon YUM! Be prepared to wait when they are busy. It’s a small local’s joint.
* Did you know??? You can set up a tab and pay Monthly. Perfect for teenagers and regulars.
* Sweet Tea– AHHH, the glories of Southern style sweet tea!!! Seconds on the lips…
* Casual, cozy, and filled with quirky décor, but you can also sit outside when the weather is nice.
Bad —
Parking can be a bit strangled because there aren’t that many spots, but it’s totally worth the hassles to at least compare the BBQ.
I would give them a solid 2.5 RIBS out of 5 for the BBQ beef sandwich.
Ugly– The bathrooms are frightening!
