If your going to eat here, do yourself a favor and ONLY have sushi. Their food is extremely overpriced for no reason. Go on a tuesday/thursday sushi is half priced. We sat outside cause the inside smelled horrible. And their were flies all over the place outside :\

I consistently enjoy the food here, however every time I go my experience is ruined by a mustached waiter who doesn’t mind his own business. He seems like a pretty nice guy, but he can’t ever seem to spare my table of whatever ‘charm’ he seems to believe he possesses… Comes off very creepy and a little annoying. The guy belongs in an IHOP, not a sushi place. Tentative three stars in hopes that this guy will chill out or something.

I would love to give this place at least 3 stars, but after visiting over a handful of times I’ve been disappointed each and every time. First of all, if you want to know about the quality of the food is, it’s fine. But it’s certainly not something to call home about. Now that we got the food out of the way, let’s talk about the service. If you have nothing to do all day and want to waste an average of two hours sitting in an empty sushi bar, be my guest because that’s exactly what you’ll do on your visit. Every time I have dined in it takes an exceptionally long time to receive my order and not only that, but the server is nowhere to be found after you get your food. Depending on what time you show up, it’s questionable whether or not a hostess will greet you. Otherwise, you might as well ask the bartender if you can get a seat. I’ve even tried carry out. You’d think in a technologically advanced world a restaurant could keep their simple menu updated, but in Soho’s case… No. I tried to make 3 separate orders because two friends of mine wanted take out as well. We ordered 2 rolls each only to get a call back saying that half of the rolls we asked for did not exist, despite the fact that they had them on the menu online. When I asked the employee if they could make something similar he told me he had no idea what I was talking about and had never heard of those rolls before. Even after ordering a roll that was on the menu online and in the restaurant I was expecting a 5-piece roll, but when I got my check it was twice as much as expected and turned into an 8-piece roll, which classifies it as a Specialty Roll. On top of their incorrect menu items online, the prices are completely wrong! After opening up the to-go boxes we had no idea whose rolls were whose, obviously because our requests were not fulfilled so we spent nearly 30 minutes rifling through each roll to figure out who had what. They had split up our 6 rolls among three boxes. I hope something is done to make this place better, it has such potential. #sadnessinoureyes

You’d think after continuously getting bad reviews they’d work on their training/staffing issues…

Stopped in for dinner with some friends last night. The place is quite large and cut up in sections with a bar on one side, another room with tables and a main dining room. We sat at the main dining room around 7:00PM the place was empty. There was a good, live piano player tickling the ivories and singing. We sat down and reviewed the menu which ranges from sushi, Thai, steaks, chicken and seafood. I usually find places that offer too many disparate selections marginal at best and this was no exception. We ordered some drinks which were good and a few appetizers. Filet mignon strips that you cook yourself on a stone that is heated from underneath. It was kinda fun and the beef was tender. The spring rolls were small, soggy and lacked flavor. The Thai chili sauce tasted store bought(I’m thinking Sysco?), there was also a crab appetizer which I didn’t partake in and was not considered good by the person who ordered it. I ordered sushi and sashimi which was a bit confusing because the menu says that you have to get two pieces of sashimi so I ordered 2 and ended up with 4 pieces, I didn’t complain because our waiter, while nice, seemed confused during the entire experience(there was a drink mixup earlier). Needless to say I had way too much sashimi. The quality of the fish was mediocre and tasted more like what you would get at a supermarket or an all you can eat place. One of the other diners ordered a Greek salad which he wanted with balsamic vinegar instead of the Greek vinaigrette which turned out to be too confusing to the waiter as he ended up with a balsamic vinaigrette. Either way, the salad wasn’t fresh and lacked flavor. He left most of it. Our other companion had the soho chicken which he claimed to enjoy even though he brought most of it home. We got out of there around 9:00 and there were maybe two people at the bar(this was a Friday night). The most action was when a group of girls walked in the door as we were about to leave but turned around and walked right out. I gave it 1 star because of the piano player. The place also could have been cleaner.

We visited on a Thursday afternoon. It was only 2 groups in the restaurant. My group had 4 ppl and the other group had 3. We waited almost 35min to get our food. The poor waitress kept apologizing. She gave a story that the cook was new, another cook called out and the one cook has to cook for the restaurant next door. The waitress was sweet and polite but the food was subpar. Nothing special about this place.

Have dined at Soho 544 and gotten carry out. The hibachi dinners have always been good. The portions are huge! I ate my hibachi dinner for 3 meals. The sushi is good too! It smells like smoke when you walk in because half of the restaurant is a bar. The smoke issue is really disappointing because being smoke free may take this place to the next level. They do have outdoor seating but it overlooks busy hwy 544. Overall food is good, but ambiance does not match the prices.

I hate to say it, but I have been here three times and have never had good service and I just don’t think the food is fabulous enough to outweigh the bad service. I’ve been there twice for lunch when it has been close to dead and still have not gotten good service. The wait staff look confused, they forget to bring food out, then they try stuffing everything on your table, then some people get food, and others have extra. Just terrible. We tried the bar side one night to eat instead of the dining room and had toothless men trying to buy us drinks and interrupt our dinner conversation. If you want SOHO, go to the one at the beach on 21st avenue. That one is great.
